Memories of a walk in Eugenio Granell Park in Compostela

(Edited)

These days I have been walking almost every day as the doctor prescribed, and I have done it in the nearest park that I have already told you about in other opportunities. So I thought that for this Wednesday, I better share some memories of one of the walks on the family trip we did to Galicia in 2019 to visit my sister-in-law.

My brother-in-law likes hiking and getting into the less traveled paths of Santiago de Compostela. So on that occasion, we took some walks outside the tourist circuit when the rain gave us a break. A while ago, I told you about one of those walks, the one we did along the Sarela river. And today, I'll share about another one we did to visit Eugenio Granell Park in Santiago.

So join me on the memories of this walk that the three of us did with my siblings-in-law and one of my nephews.

We started our walk through the streets of Santiago towards an area called Conxo. Sometimes we took some small shortcuts, and in one of them, I photographed this small garden with Grelos. I had never seen them planted before. The Grelos are typical in Galicia and are given in winter. I've read they are the flowers of turnips. I've never seen them here, and they are also called broccoli rabe.

We pass by the church of Conxo.

Iglesia_Conxo.jpg

Called Monastery and Church of Santa María de Conxo.

And then, we went through a small tunnel in a less urbanized area, with pedestrian paths to the Eugenio Granell Park located in the neighborhood of O Paxonal.

A photo of the six of us as a souvenir was taken by my son - Eugenio Granell Park, Santiago de Compostela

The park is very extensive. And from what I read, one of the largest in Santiago de Compostela.

OPaxonal_8.jpg

It has a wooded area that goes next to a stream, where we walked a long way.

OPaxonal_7.jpg

We walked through a part of the wooded area, where we felt small with those big trees, like my husband in this photo.

OPaxonal_6.jpg

We walked until we reached a less wooded area of the park with some views of the city.

OPaxonal_5.jpg

We were on a small hill.

OPaxonal_4.jpg

At the top of the hill, there was a small cafe where we sat down for a hot chocolate. And although I don't have pictures of the hot chocolate, next time, this is what the cafe looked like when we were leaving the park. It was getting dark.

OPaxonal_3.jpg

We cross a small wooden footbridge.

OPaxonal_1.jpg

To get to the trails that would lead us to the city as night was falling.

OPaxonal_2.jpg

And it was already dark when we finished the walk. And we went back to the city.

This is also my post for this week's #wednesdaywalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay in collaboration with #makemesmile hosted by @elizacheng.

Thank you for reading!

All images and writing are my own unless otherwise stated.

All pictures were taken in December 2019 during our trip to Santiago de Compostela.

Walks like this with family is memorable, sis. With you leaving the trail when it was already dark, I can only imagine you enjoyed the adventure :)

Hi sis, it's true those adventures with the family are the best. And those on that trip were special because we hadn't seen each other for a long time. And now we are on the same path of having years without seeing each other. Hopefully, soon we can meet again.
Have a lovely Thursday, amiga!

I agree. The time with the family was the best part. On that occasion, we had several years without seeing each other, and it was memorable. I hope we can repeat it soon. Thanks for stopping by. Saludos!

Oh I know how it is like Super Eli. El Ferrol was awful , rain rain rain and cold far worse than Scotland (well my side the East is dry)

Galicia is beautiful, but the weather is awful. And imagine that Santiago's is worse than Coruña with the rain.

A fantastic walk, a lovely article to read.... I was fascinated by how the photographs perfectly convey the atmosphere of the place and its climate in those moments... I also loved the facade of that church, especially that fantastic bell tower with the bells exposed and side by side.... Thanks for sharing @coquicoin friend!...

I'm glad you liked it. I also loved the facade of the church. Too bad it was not open to visit it and get to know it from the inside.
Thank you for stopping by and for the support.

This kind of outdoor activities? I haven't done this together with my family. Or maybe because we lived in the countryside that feels like always having a trekk 😁.

The area was amazing and with that vibes I saw in the movies especially the 8th photos.

And your son is handsome!

Awesome to hear you walk every day. I’m slowly getting back to this good habit too.

Lovely place to walk around… I bet you could find some mushrooms there 😁

Surely there are many mushrooms there, but I will have to wait for the next chance we can visit my sister-in-law in Spain, hehe. Rainforests here are very different.
Happy weekend!
