Of Moons, Bamboleo, and NYC for the Three Tune Tuesday W88

Hello, Hivers and music lovers!

Tuesdays are musical days on Hive, thanks to the #threetunetuesday initiative started by @ablaze. #ttt makes us discover new rhythms and melodies, listen to all-time hits, or travel down memory lane to listen to oldies that we haven't listened to in years. And I seem to be stuck on the latter, and the 80s have been present in my latest #ttt recommendations.

Today is not going to be different, we are in the 88th week of the initiative, and I was looking for the songs in Spanish that were in vogue that year to recall what I was listening to. A year in which I also graduated from high school and started attending college, and I have so many memories of that time.

But before we get into the tunes, let me give a little background for those of you who are not familiar with #threetunetuesday. In the words of @ablaze, who started the initiative

So without further ado, let me tell you about three of the songs I used to listen to in 1988.

Tune 1 - Emmanuel - La Última Luna

In 1988 one of my favorite pop music artists in Spanish was Emmanuel, that year he performed in concert at the Poliedro, a big venue in Caracas. I remember that I went with a friend, and the adventure to get to the concert was a little bumpy as her car broke on the way. We made it to the concert a bit late but enjoy it a lot, and by chance, we were laughing about that memory recently.

One of Emmanuel's biggest hits that year was La Última Luna.

Tune 2 - Gipsy Kings - Bamboleo

Bamboleo was the song that brought fame to the Gipsy Kings, a group of french singers with Spanish roots that mixed pop with flamenco rumba and sang in Spanish and French. Bamboleo became very popular worldwide in 1988.

The song also has some verses that are a version of a well-known Venezuelan folk song by singer-songwriter Simon Diaz. The song is Caballo Viejo.

Tune 3 - Mecano - No Hay Marcha en Nueva York

I have already mentioned in another #ttt the Spanish band Mecano. I liked them a lot at that time, and one of their songs, released in 1988, was No Hay Marcha en Nueva York.
