Some rambling before Christmas

These last few days, I have been very sentimental. Reasons are not lacking. All the emotions for everything that has happened this year have not been just anything. And lately, it takes little to bring tears to my eyes. Although, I am happy and grateful to be alive and to be able to hug my boy this Christmas.

Reminiscences of the past

Yesterday I received some news that has left me with a heavy heart and has not helped my spirits. A childhood friend, a cousin of one of my long-time friends from school, is missing. He has not been heard from for a few days, and as time goes by, the anguish that the worst has happened is growing.

But that news that has us so saddened made a friend with whom I had lost contact for silly reasons write me to know what had happened. And when she also found out about my heart attack a few weeks ago, she was even more shocked. She has been living abroad for a long time. But this morning, she called me, and we talked for about an hour. It was nice. It seemed like no time had passed. We were reminiscing. We were very close when younger. So aside from catching up, we also talk about that time, the old happy days.

Talking to her after so long was a great Christmas present for me. And I got to thinking about how our life is kind of like a train where passengers get on and off, although some stay with us for the whole trip. But we are also sometimes so foolish that we let some passengers off when they should stay with us on our journey. Anyway, I got a bit philosophical, but I loved talking to my friend and feeling that even though we look older, the bond is still there as when we were young.

Christmas smells

Today we have been preparing everything for the Christmas Eve dinner, which this year has fallen under the husband's hands, who will cook a pernil (pork leg). This year we won't have hallacas. As I have to take it easy, I was not prepared for the work involved in making them. But I did make today dulce de lechosa (papaya), a traditional dessert in Venezuela at this time of the year. It is made with green papaya. And with one of a little more than two kilos, I got a good amount of sweetness. And while I was making it, the house was impregnated with one of those smells so characteristic of these days. And my son told me finally the house smells like Christmas.

Grogu's first Christmas

Lately, the absolute king of the house is Grogu.

This year given the circumstances with my health, I have avoided the frenzy of Christmas shopping, and not that I mind too much because it is my least favorite thing about Christmas. But we will make sure that the spoiled child of the house gets a visit from Santa on his first Christmas.

And since my little guy is so photogenic, even though he doesn't like pictures, I couldn't help but take a few pics trying to get him to wear a Christmas hat.
