Visiting bookshops in Bogotá for Market Friday

(Edited)

For this market Friday, I am going to tell you a bit about the bookshops we visited while we were in Bogotá.

As I've gotten older, I admit that I don't like shopping so much anymore, but going to look in bookshops is something I love and enjoy a lot. And unfortunately, in Caracas, there are very few bookshops left that are worth spending some time in. But this is not the case in the Colombian capital, where there are many bookshops. And some of the prices, depending on the publisher, are a real bargain.

Bookstore FCE Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center

The first one I'm going to mention is the bookshop in the Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center, which is right in front of the Botero Museum. In this bookshop, you can get all the works of the Colombian writer García Márquez in different presentations at very good prices. And some editions had additional discounts.

My son took the chance to buy a couple of novels by García Márquez to take with him. Crónica de una muerte anunciada and El General en su Laberinto.

Bookstore Tango

Another bookshop we visited was one called Tango. I visited this one with my son the day we went for a walk in the Parque El Virrey. This bookshop is very close to the park on Carrera 15.

We had a good time browsing around, and there were not only books here but also a lot of vinyl records and music CDs.

Bookstore Wilborada

The next bookshop was the one we enjoyed visiting the most although, in the end, we didn't buy any books there. We were planning to go back a few days later for a couple of books that the husband wanted to buy but ended up buying them in another bookshop. But back to the bookshop, it's called Wilborada, and it's in a traditional neighborhood of the city, with lots of restaurants and cafes, called Quinta Camacho.

The bookshop has a comfortable lounge where you can sit and browse through the books.

There is also a small cafe.

And all the rooms of the house in which it is located are pleasant. So we spent some time there browsing through the books.

There was also an area for children's books. And even though, my son is older, I always love to look at child books in the bookshops.

Bookstore FCE Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center

The last bookshop was called Maria Mercedes Carranza. And it was on Carrera 15 near Calle 106 where we were staying. It was a small bookshop, but whenever we passed by, I noticed that they had many activities. Some readings, an afternoon of book exchanges. And inside, it was very pleasant.

There, the husband bought a couple of comic book novels in their Spanish version, The Three Escapes of Hannah Arendt: A Tyranny of Truth and Soldiers of Salamis.

With this post, I join this week's #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle. But I can't say goodbye without a flower. This one, a Camelia, if I'm not wrong, I photographed it near the place we stayed in Bogotá for #alwaysaflower.

That's all for today. Thank you very much for reading!

I am also kind of addicted to the smell of new books lol, imagine in the book shop where a lot of new books comes one open and smells the fragrance of every pages haha. I still have two more unopen books so maybe next month will be my bookstore galore.

The flower is stunning! The blooms are aromatic and delightful to look at as well!

That bookshop with the lounge was my favorite probably. I like to find a nice place to sit while I am perusing through some books I am interested in. They really have a lot of nice bookshops in Bogota. The cafes are always nice, one of the reasons I used to like to go to the Barnes and Noble in our town.

I much prefer these bookshops that are owned by individuals rather than big corporations, they are more personal and cater to the customer. Glad your son got a piece of home to take with him, although he will probably not find too much problem finding books there, they will most likely be more expensive.

I love your post as I love bookshops and still read books (also the ebooks, sadly) as I love the feel of the binding in my hand. I don't think I will ever like digital as much as a real one. It feels so right in my hands. Thank you so much for sharing your time in Bogota with us, such a beautiful and vibrant city! I hope your son is doing well and you are too!

Thank you for participating in #MarketFriday! I appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting a post together for the challenge. It is with great pleasure that I read through and realize how much we have all tried to include things in our world that may be unique to the area. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for them. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the week has found you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive or cheap? Did it go up or down? Please do not post 30 pictures with no words about them.Do not use pictures more than once in a post!
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess on some
    4. #MarketFriday must be your first tag.
Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
    5. PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  4. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Hi Denise, I don't know how I missed this comment these days. I also like the feeling of turning the pages of a book, but the truth is that lately, I read a lot of ebooks.
My son is fine, he loves college, so I'm fine and happy too.🤗🌸

I have spent the last half hour trying to open this on peakd so I can post a gif Super Eli but I keep getting a page with 404 error, bizarre!
Oh well ecency it will be....
I love books and bookstores and coffee.
To be honest though, my favourite bookstores are second hand books, I find those fascinating.
I remember you saying how rare it is to find bookstores in Caracas, it seems that Bogota is really Bogotbooks!
I would have fun there though, some of them are cool, especially the house one! Books fluffing everywhere Super Eli

Frontends are going a bit crazy these days before de fork. Peakd works fine for me, but ecency doesn't update my notifications in real time and that makes it difficult for me to go through them since I'm used to clearing notifications there.
Coffee and books are a perfect match. I also like to rummage in second-hand shops and here there are not many good bookstores, but there is one that has lots of second-hand books. One of these days, I should stop by there to make a post, it's Rodrigo's favorite place to look for books.
Hope your Saturday is going great Super Ed!

What an adventure this was to 4 different book shops! I love Wilborada, would be nice to sit down on its lounge and flip pages of books or go to the cafe and read (if I'm alone) hehe. Thank you for the tour sis!

Great photos and a nice visit to bookshops! It looks like they have a nice cozy atmosphere in them, with sofas, a bar, etc... It reminds me of my old library where I was going as a kid...

I hope that I will fulfill my dream and finally visit South America next year... Colombia is in the first place on the list, but I would like to explore other countries too...

Thank you:) Those cozy bookshops that let you browse and read in there are the best ones.
And I hope you can come to South America one day. There are so many wonderful destinations for all tastes.
