Change May Happen in 2024

A low voter turnout and the ANC for the first time are expected to receive less than 50% of the vote in 27 years. This is big news as there is some hope for 2024 if this trend continues. Something has to change or the country is doomed if it carries on this path. The economy is in tatters and unemployment is through the roof so hopefully the voters are waking up.

Yesterday we had the local municipality elections in South Africa which was fairly interesting. Interesting in the sense that the ruling ANC party can't just expect votes anymore as many are sick of the failed promises that have lasted 27 years. The last two years with the lockdowns have pushed their supporters to the very limit as many have no future with unemployment being so high. Throw in failing local services and even the supporters with blind faith can see what is going on. No electricity and running water is something that many have to live with which should never be the case.

One can see the funny side of this photo found on twitter with the ruling government ANC gazebo with no electricity and the opposition party of the DA all lit up. This really sums up the country in so many ways.

The problem with any election is corruption and then add in this is Africa so multiply that by a guaranteed 100%. Staying in power at all costs will never go away as it is too lucrative for those to stay in power. The biggest hurdle is the reason why the masses vote for the ANC needs to change and will take time. They were the ones who fought the struggle against apartheid so have there support no matter what and that is being handed down to the next generation unless you are educated and can think for yourself. I would call it a cultural vote and nothing else no matter how the Government governs.

The one new party to show it's face this time around was Action SA which has taken a fair chunk of the votes in the areas they contested. the thought was it would dilute the votes making no difference but the reality is they have taken votes away from all the other parties but more importantly mainly the ANC. For them to steal a ward in Soweto is unheard of and the "count" is still happening so it will be tight.

Elections in Africa most especially doesn't favours the voters for why they need a new person in power because at the end of it all they don't really see the changes they need to better their lives instead to getting to they position are just after their pocket

Would I say the people did the right because when they come out after voting, they know that no change can still happen under greedy government
