Follow The Trail

This week the head of South Africa's electricity giant (Eskom) come out letting everyone know about sabotage happening behind the scenes. The country has been having a wave of load shedding lately with no signs of it improving anytime soon.

Unfortunately in Africa when stuff goes wrong it is normally something underhanded with a select few benefitting from the country's misfortune. The sabotage that is happening is a red flag and this is more than obvious who is behind this type of gangster move.

Last month the country was plunged into load shedding chaos when the Lethabo Power Station was placed on hold as the conveyers feeding the coal were not working. What it turns out to be was the electricity supplying the conveyers had been disrupted when pylons had been purposefully cut and fell over uphill. This is impossible as we all know things fall down with the slope due to gravity and the angle so they had been manipulated to fall that way.

The red flag is nothing was stolen so no cable theft or metal for the scrap merchants so then what? Who would benefit from tuning off South Africa's main source of power? There is one group who is trying to fast track electricity supplied by ships berthed in the various ports around the country. I am not saying it is them who are responsible, but normally in Africa things are that simple. This is greed and when people want things to happen they try and force the situation to gain the benefits desired.

This new power station was due online within days when the entire place blew up. This was on the 9th August so something is not right.

A few months ago we had a new turbine explode due to an error which was obviously not an error, but more of a deliberate error. That turbine had taken 10 years to build and was thought to solve the load shedding answers. We will never know if that was the case as it never even fired up before exploding.

Looking at the proposed contract that was green lighted but not finalised whoever is involved would have a massive 20 year payday. What is holding this deal back is it is not green electricity and with the new deals arranged at the climate forum in Scotland recently this is now under threat.

This is the only reason why we are having these power outages as this deal has to mean so much to a few who are going to benefit.

Karpowership is the company that has scooped up most of the emergency power supply contracts which is fishy in itself. The World Bank has started to ask questions about renewable energy projects which would be far cheaper and would be quicker to get operational.

the proposal having 8 ships moored at various harbors in South Africa is absurd as not only are they bellowing out fossil fuels for 20 years but the space they have to have. The safety zone incase of fire etc would mean they need 10 x the space of the original berth.

Someone is obviously being paid on the inside to get these projects green lighted in the first place and that means the minister of energies has to have his finger in the pie. There will be a trail of Government cronies involved in such a big money spinner and why this should never be allowed to happen.

The price tag of such a deal for 20 years is estimated to be over 200 Billion Rand but will likely be double that figure knowing how underhanded these deals are. The Ports where the ships are supposed to be berthed would be free of course and are not part of the costings.

Karpowership is not a cheap option as they are a Turkish based company that normally are called in to help with emergency electricity supply. Emergency as in war torn countries such as Iraq, Cuba, Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Mozambique and Sudan.

Nothing is transparent when we see these types of deals trying to be put through as the directors of the new companies that have been formed are all hush hush. Making the situation worse is what they need so the country has no choice but to go ahead with these deals.
