Russia Being Kicked Where It Hurts The Most

We have seen that Germany is not going to stop importing Russian oil anytime soon as there is more at play than first seems. Gazprom owns the oil pipe line that runs from Russia into Germany and a certain ex Chancellor Gerhard Schröder sits on their board. How much influence does their ex leader still have one can only imagine, but it all sounds far more than just not being able to find new suppliers. The whole thing stinks and when sanctions are imposed you cannot pick and choose what suits you as that misses the whole point of what sanctions are supposed to do.

The one good thing that Germany cannot prevent is that the LNG projects Russia had planned in the Arctic look dead and buried for now. The idea they would become the worlds leading supplier was their aim using the Northern Sea Routes as their distribution outlet.

Back in February it was widely reported that The LNG plants would rely heavily on Western technology. The Russians did try with a local manufacturer called Novatek’s Arctic Cascade, but this was not very successful. Specialist equipment is required and there are only a few companies who have that expertise and they all lie in the West.

Two weeks ago on April the 8th their were many amendments added to the already amended long list of sanctions. This was to make sure the LNG projects had no loop holes ensuring they could not get off the ground. Heat exchange units are key element in an LNG refinery and without this they are doing nothing. The latest amendments state clearly that orders placed before the 26th February can be delivered up until the 27th May.

LNG Heat exchange units are key to the plant.

The latest round of sanctions definitely targeted certain industries that Russia was relying heavily on and without those they will definitely feel the effects. This is what sanctions are designed to do and not still trade with the "enemy" like Germany is blatantly doing. Why would they stop the war if they are still exporting oil for billions of dollars to the West?

Arctic LNG 2 now on permanent hold.
Sanctions are designed to cause as much economic harm as possible to Russia in this case while at the same time trying to protect everyone else. We have seen rising prices and the sooner this conflict ends the better for everyone. Trading with Russia is not only going to make the sanctions less affective, but will draw the conflict out even longer affecting everyone around the world.

These sanctions are getting too big for Russians to hold from the look of how things are right now.

But, will these sanctions force Putin's hand to stop the war? Probably not, it can only slow him down.

He hasn't yet shown a sign of ending the war with all the sanctions imposed by Nato and Biden these last month.

He wont stop if the West are still buying his oil and gas. Russia needs to be cut off and only then could the war possibly end, but then it would also be embarrassing for Putin showing weakness. If he is forced to pull out of Ukraine or stick fighting in Ukraine for too long he will be replaced as Russia will suffer. I do think he has lost either way now and he knows it as the 5 day invasion plan was a plan that he could sell to his subordinates.

He's on the fence right now for sure, and there is no better option left for him(Putin).

All the money he's losing due to the sanction is too much for him to lose in the war.

Zelensky was able to slow him down for now, but how would it look some months from now, things keep unfolding every day.

Trust me they don't only still buy oil and gas, but other things as well. The same about companies that didn't leave Russia, but only acted like they did. You can watch my recent video about the situation in Russia while I'm living here. Sanctions didn't seem affecting Russian economics that much. Plus they are just empowering the government here, so people will use less of other companies' products and buy the local products. And most of local companies are owned by authorities. So, sanctions may affect regular people here, but not anyone from the government. That's how I see things living here.

I see it the same way as the ones who should be affected normally escape getting off lightly while it has consequences on everyone else.

Yeah, of course, how gonna such sanctions touch someone with billions of dollars and maybe even trillions. That will affect only simple citizens.

Yes as you say there is a lot more at play than presented in the mainstream media. Key really is to cut off Russia from oil and gas revenue and completely ostracise them from the civilised world.

It's pretty much both sides destroying the economy. I don't think this will help anyone and the poor will suffer from this. I just don't think the conflict is worth it and it should just end. Putin won't end this anytime soon unless the other side folds and I think they will just look for alternatives.
