Too Late China Is Already Here

source

Remember back in 2020 when NATO warned against the Chinese taking advantage of the pandemic and swooping up companies around the World as the share prices crashed. I can recall a certain German politician stating that the likes of Mercedes and BMW were protected species and any deals were off the table.

I got back onto this subject as I was out driving today and came across a car brand I have never seen before or even heard of. The car was a BAIC and looked from all accounts European as way too sophisticated for the Chinese. The door handles were not normal and are electronic or push handles which is what caught my eye.

source

It turns out BAIC stands for Beijing Automotive Group and is the sixth largest manufacturer in China. When I dug deeper it turns out they have a 9.68% shareholding in Mercedes and Mercedes has a 9.68% shareholding in BAIC. It gets better than that however as they are not only the biggest share holder in Mercedes, but the second biggest share holder is also Chinese. It starts to make you wonder how many of the shares are in German control after all. So we know 20% has basically fallen into the Chinese hands when the World was warned this was going to happen.

source

Scary to think the Germans are in control of 7.72% of their own company which was a so called protected company. This is why the car I saw today looked out of place as they are using German technology on their vehicles now.

8ell me at the first glance this doesn't look like a Toyota Land Cruiser. I know Toyota are known for their engines, but this is almost identical besides the head lights.**

The 4 x 4 they have on offer looks very similar to the Mercedes G Wagon and the latest model looks more like a Toyota Land Cruiser. These are not cheap knock off copy cat or mirror images that they are known for, but actually look rather decent. I must admit I was tempted by the vehicle I saw today until I found out it was Chinese and just cannot stoop that low ever.

We know the Chinese took advantage and scooped up most of the World Ports over the last 5 years and I am starting to think what else did they manage to buy. If they can take a large chunk of Mercedes then no company is safe.

Volvo the Swedish car manufacturer was taken over by the Chinese in 2021 so it will soon be what don't they own and they are most certainly taking over slowly, but surely.

The race is between Tesla and the Chinese car companies.

All the others are either going to be playing catch up or going out of business.

GM is likely done; Honda might end up cooked; VW is going to have to sell some brands but could survive. Ford and Toyota have work to do buy could hang around.

Not sure about the Korean brands.

The Germans are on a losing strategy for quite some good years. The company at which my father works in Austria has been bought by Koreans for a few years and it's such a mess since then. "Deutsche quality" is no longer something to rely on...
