Wen, Wen, Wen?

Maybe developers should not add a timeline to launch dates as how many actually get them right? Unforeseen circumstances or glitches/bugs are common so instead of saying this month or next month rather say coming soon.

It is kind of funny as the Vasil Hardfork on Cardano was first scheduled for sometime in June and was then pushed back to the end of July and now has been delayed for another 2-3 weeks. The Wen's have been out in force which is quite funny as Project Blanc/Threads tells us to have patience.

3 months is nothing considering development takes time and making sure it is right before implementing should be more important. How many projects have we seen push something through that is not right and live to regret their impulsive decisions.

As a developer and tester you have a duty to your investors and community to do the right thing even if it changes time parameters slightly. Crypto is here for good so what is 3 or 4 months in the time scale as it is literally a blip. The reason for the delay is they have changed the node after finding some bugs in the previous one. The tests are continuously happening and who says this will be the last upgrade as bugs may still be encountered.

I am not invested heavily in Cardano (ADA), but this delay is an opportunity to grab hold of more COTI before the stable coin DJED is launched. Cardano has been around since 2015 and they are known for taking their time so this is not unexpected. Certain developments are worth waiting for and I am hoping this one will generate me more APR so getting it right first time is important as it is not just one eco system that will benefit, but a whole host.

When dates are not given and only rough estimates that should be a hint that it may or may not happen. The last update on the Vasil Hardfork said the last week of July so they never committed to the 31st which has allowed them to push the time frame out. It may or may not happen in August which kind of sucks so I hope they get things right. More damage as an investment can be created by pushing things through half baked so rather be known for doing things right the first time.

On HIVE we are so used to having Hardfork's they are not really a big deal and in most cases when the date is announced they stick to the date or are within a few days at least. Even our latest Hardfork 26 is delayed to bugs so this is common practice. I do think we understand this more than most as we work with the blockchain daily and is more than just an investment.

You are always going to get the Wen mob as they lack patience as it is more about mooning and cashing out. Wen it happens is the right answer for any Wen question.

I think that dates should be a rough idea until they get everything ready to go. Just announce the hardfork for late summer in the early days and wait until your ready to deploy before announcing anything specific.

Once it's ready to go what's the harm in waiting four weeks or so to actually launch and give people enough notice.

It's hard to be specific half way through on jobs like this and better to wait until the team knows a lot more.

I agree as changing dates makes many question their investment as they lose confidence when it shouldn't be the case.

As a developer, and manager of technical teams, there is definitely a tendency to be ridiculously optimistic about your own, and others, capabilities to deliver. As you note timeline estimates are often WAY off the mark. Even adding an error allowance of 100% to developer estimates will prove insufficient. It just takes some hiccups in testing to unravel the best planning.

As to Cardano, their challenge will be remaining relevant while other sovereign chains surpass their functionality. There are still many fans though the community has suffered considerable flux over the past 5 years. Personally, I think they have a high risk of becoming out-dated.
