Working For Yourself
Over the last 3 years I have been working for myself having my own business and couldn't be happier. Things haven't always gone to plan, but then what things do? The business hasn't exactly been profitable as lately raw materials for manufacturing are non existent. At some point that won't be the case and it will catch up lost profits and income.
When you are working for someone else you always wonder what it would be like taking the chance and striving out on yourself. I have no regrets in life but the one thing I would have changed is going on my own many years ago.
With Covid and the lockdowns along with some crazy regulations I do believe many are looking at career changing moves. It takes drastic steps we are living in to wake you up and realise change has to happen in order to gain control back of your life.
I was reading an article about a pilot for Cathay Pacific who spent 150 days in quarantine over the last year. This was seen as a glamorous job years ago and now seems more like a prison sentence. Imagine flying to another country after leaving quarantine only to return to another 14 day stint of self isolating only to repeat the same actions again and again. The pilot mentioned he hasn't seen a blade of grass or a tree in the last year. Hog Kog has some of the harshest lock down/quarantine regulations around.
This is the same with the shipping companies in China having crew on their vessels as normally one would expect to work a 6 month shift and go home but many realistically cannot leave the vessel. Once you disembark you have to quarantine for 56 days and on your return self isolate yet again before boarding. This is creating havoc amongst crews as this is like a prison sentence except the only difference is you have a job and are paid for this. Understandably shipping companies have been looking at rerouting ships as this is not working for anyone.
Quality if life is important and should be everyone's priority as these days cooped up in self isolation is time one can never get back. What some employees expect of their staff is inhumane and money doesn't, buy happiness like some say.
The world is definitely changing which is also changing how many are thinking as spending time alone makes you think. A job is no longer just a job as many will be looking for things they enjoy or possibly find something where they can work for themselves.

I would like to be self employed at some point, but I don't believe am equipped for it yet. What I do instead is to combine my job with my own desires and try to do them both, Eventually I hope to grow to that extent where a job isn't necessary to survive as I chase my dreams head on
Very true as you do need certain skills in order to go out on your own with one being self confidence. I was doing my own thing starting up businesses for fun 10 years ago and through those attempts finally found the one I am comfortable with. You will find that as well and must be aware of opportunities that arise around you as they are always there.

When you are the boss, you are responsible for everything, which give you the motivation to make the best of all situations! Entrepreneurs have the certain special thing, maybe it's just not wanting to be under someone else's thumb, or it's the freedom to really do what you want when you want! I will never have another boss again! The best thing for anyone is to be able to have an income that they can manage from anywhere. That way you don't have to live those prison sentences and be locked down whether there is a pandemic or not. My years with Apple made me realize that I was truly tied down and had almost no freedom. Since I have broken free, the sky has been the limit! I feel like a free man!
I feel the same way you did and am happier than ever even though the road has many obstacles. It takes those jobs to realise what your life requires though so they do serve that purpose.

Hope we learn the good lessons from all this; definitely some things should change, when it comes to quality of life for most of us.
My buddy worked for years for different companies and finally after a few things fell into place decided to start his own business. He now wonders why he waited so long. Things are going really well for him and his business is growing like crazy. People shouldn't be too afraid to take that leap of faith even if all the logistics aren't quite in place yet.
