What Day Is it? You probably don't know

If you live in the United States, you have probably noticed from time to time an obscure "National -fill in the blank- Day." For example, National Donut Day, usually recognized by donut shops giving away free donuts. Unbeknownst to me, until today, practically every day of the year is a national day for something. I thought it would be interesting to highlight National Days here on the glorius Hive Blockchain.

So without further ado, let's get this party started. If you don't know, now you know...today is National Date Nut Bread Day. Yes, you read that correctly - National Date Nut Bread Day. The origins of this day are shrouded in mystery and I couldn't find any information as to when it started or who started it.

A little bit of Dates History:
Dates can be traced back to ancient times with Iraq being the consensus point of origin and harvested as early as 4000 B.C. Dates are a great source of dietary potassium; 80% of the fruit is sugar, while also consisting of other nutrients and minerals like protein, fiber and trace amounts of boron, cobalt, copper, fluorine, magnesium, manganese, selenium and zinc. Dates grow on large palm trees called date palms. Date palms can be found all over the world in different varieties. The top ten date producing regions are Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Algeria, Iraq, Pakistan, Sudan, Oman, UAE, Tunisia.

More info:
Dates are considered a stone fruit, meaning there's only one large seed surrounded by the 'meat' of the fruit, similar to mangoes, olives, and peaches. The moisture content is low which lends to a longer shelf life than most fruits. Dates are versitle. Natural sweetners used by some health enthusiats are made from dates. They can be eaten straight off the tree, used in shakes and smoothies, baked into cookies, and of course, date nut bread. When choosing nuts for date nut bread, any choice is a good one depening on your taste and preference; walnuts and pecans are the most popular.

Go out and enjoy some date nut bread today!

Tell me what you think. Do you like dates?
