The Case for Banning Autovotes for a Brief Period

The Case for Banning Autovotes for a Brief Period

I love Hive and hope to see it thrive and there is a case to remove auto-votes on the platform. The people against this idea are the early adopters when setting up auto-voting was more popular and understood. Much time has passed and now I think auto-voting has transformed into something that takes away real engagement from the platform.

Hive is still in it's early phase I don't know the stats exactly but we have very few active users. But I clearly am frustrated as a long time Hive author and as you can see below I hardly get any support...

People Don't Read

The problem is people are not reading posts. Instead they are just looking for a bunch of pics with a high enough word count. I strive to write at least 500 words a day but it's difficult so that's why I like to journal some of my life.

Today I'm going to go to the beach with my son and I can't wait to see him.

What would it be like if we trialed banning auto voting for a month or two. What's the worst that could happen. A great reset is needed to entice more engagement. Engagement is key to Hive's success as new authors stand a better chance at receiving larger upvotes.

You do realise the insight is just one front end and does not capture post visitors who don't get captured because they don't use peaks, like me right?

Hello! I saw you had upvoted a post of mine and came to return the favor. Alas, you make posts infrequently.

Saw this post about auto voting and thought I would argue against any suspension because I use SBI to come and upvote my posts. I have also called other voting trails to upvote my posts periodically. It seems you do/have taken advantage of SBI yourself.

To address the problem you are having with getting bigger upvotes I take the liberty of making suggestions.

  • You must make frequent posts to build your audience.

  • Focus on your strengths. You seemed to get more upvotes when speaking about crypto or business on LeoFinance.

  • Some topics are more profitable. Finance, Splinterlands, dCity. They have a built in audience looking for interesting or informative content.

I also notice you tried setting up a game with those bonus points. Folks who love winning things are also a built in audience. You should bring that back and run it at least once a week. The powers that be here on Hive don’t like posts asking for upvotes to participate, so don’t do that. But the challenges and engagement aspect is a good idea.

Anyway, good fortune to you whatever the final plan is!
