Thinking of starting an outpost to grow a Hive community? How about trying it out with some no-cost manual strategies first?

@etblink wrote a recent post explaining why he might want to start an outpost for the Las Vegas community. Basically to bring people in the same region together, and discuss stuff common to them.

It makes sense that a location-based Hive outpost could be helpful to bring in people already sharing content in other ways.

For the uninitiated, this is what an actual outpost looks like: https://www.proofofbrain.io/, in the case of the POB community.

I suggest in my reply to him that he can do it manually until he has enough resources or traction to create one.

I think an outpost dedicated to a cause is nice, and should not be too difficult to set up, but some cost is involved. This earlier post reveals how it can be done at a lesser cost: https://ecency.com/hive-112019/@psorigins/ewuhhqmt. Caveat, I do not know if the method still works since it was posted a while ago.

More importantly, one must realize that setting up an outpost requires some financial investment into the technical side of things, and it also requires a commitment to start a community. It doesn't cost much to start a community, but creating and sustaining a Community within Hive is a necessary step. Others have shown the way:

By the way, they have shown that there is no need for a dedicated outpost if there are dedicated members.

Anyway, time to explain more about what I mean by getting it done manually.

So here it is.

First, at least create and power up a Hive account that is meant to feature the community, say, with a name like lasvegasfolks or something like that. After that, commit to searching for posts on a regular basis that feature Las Vegas in Hive (https://hivesearcher.com/ is a great tool). Reblog and upvote them if they are worthy posts from that dedicated Hive account.

Concurrently, set up another social media account to repost the posts found or to link to the lasvegasfolks posts. Twitter combined with Hiveposh is a neat way to do this, and you could earn $posh. Coupled with a #lasvegas hashtag on Twitter, others would find their way to Hive through the Tweet. Clear explanation on how to onboard Hive would be great too.

Now, these processes are manual though I am sure one can automate them with some coding in Python and the like (P/S: I am available for online tutoring for some Hives!).

The beauty of going manual is that the approach is highly flexible. One can repost on Linkedin, Facebook, whatapps etc.. . to reach out to more people.

The longer-term goal should be to create and build that Hive Community, hopefully with its own tokens.

Before all that can happen, one can leverage the existing tools to do it manually.

Heck, even my effort to create a post like this https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@cryptothesis/checking-out-current-posts-in-leo-finance-with-less-than-50-cent-hbd-worth-in-rewards can be considered as some kind of precursor to an outpost, albeit a pretty basic one.

So be imaginative and keep building!

P/S: This is not financial advice, and please do your own due diligence before investing.

If you read this far... and if you are a like-minded Hiver who is on the path to learning more about Hive and crypto investing, and if you like to be tagged when I write such posts, I welcome you to leave a comment below and let me know. We can form an alliance to support each other's growth.

I am blown away you took the time to respond in this fashion. Thank you. This seems like a great starting point.

I agree with you suggestion of beginning with a community before moving onto an Outpost.

There is a lot to take away from your post. Much appreciated.

P.S. I may be requesting those Python tutorials in the near future 😉

No worries! It’s a good chance for me to write it down too.
