Curator Cat: PeakD Update — My Favorite Hive Front End and a Couple of Suggestions!
Yesterday, I was reading the latest update from PeakD.
I always find these interesting and relevant because I am a big fan of this company and find that it is by far the most feature rich and user friendly front end from which to access Hive.
Birdwatching, again...
There are many exciting things in the works at @peakd, but as always one of the things I always end up thinking about is "what could really improve things?"
Software development and web design is a never-ending process!
"Skins" for Individual Community Tribes?
I'm a big fan of Hive's 2nd layer "Tribal Communities!"
It occurred to me that one thing that might be really cool — although I have absolutely no idea as to whether it's even workable or feasible from a coding standpoint — would be to have a more thorough incorporation of Hive’s many ”outpost style” tribes/communities within the PeakD interface.
What I mean by that is having the option of being logged into your account — which of course logs you into all of Hive — and maybe have something like a dropdown menu through which you could choose a ”view as” and it would switch your point of view to something like a ”wrapper” that made PeakD emulate being on a tribal/community front end, like LeoFinance, CTP, Proof of Brain, etc.
So Where is the Value, You Might Wonder?
Contemplating possibilities...
For me, one of the weaknesses of ostensible decentralization is the risk of all these separate initiatives turning into fragmentation. That is, you have so many individual dApps to keep track of that your overall user experience starts to become really cluttered and a bit cumbersome.
One of the very few areas in which Facebook has us beat — as a centralized entitity — is that everything can be accessed through a single interface, from blogging, to photos, to videos, to messages, to commerce and beyond.
Whereas PeakD currently allows us to view all of these through a single interface, we still have to locate ourselves on any number of different front ends to direct our content to a specific location.
Let's for example say that I have a substantial stake in LeoFinance and I wanted to have somewhat of a handle on the size of my Leo upvotes and my remaining Leo voting power, as separate from my Hive voting power.
At the moment, the only way for me to check that, and to specifically vote with Leo, is to do so via the LeoFinance front end.
Again implementing something like this may not be feasible, and there may not be enough demand for it given that a lot of people don't use tribal front ends at all. They may hold the Hive-Engine tokens, but not really take them into account in their curation patterns. For all I know I'm just a tiny minority.
Choosing a Time Frame for PeakD Stats
The other suggestion I have is more of a small "clean-up" issue, relating to the stats on the "Tools" page.
As they are currently presented, your activity stats are fetched and you have the option to "load more data." Which is fine. However, you have no option to "view less."
Currently, the center part of the page looks like this:
That can become cumbersome and resource consuming, in a hurry.
I'd suggest making 30 days the automatic default, and doing away with "load more data," and instead replacing with a drop-down option for 30 Days, 90 Days, 6 months, 1 year and All. But always return to 30 days as the default, when the page is refreshed.
I suggest this because one of my alt accounts is stuck at showing all data since the beginning of Hive, and it locks up the page for a good 20-30 seconds... and the data is all but unreadable.
Hopefully, that would be a fairly easy fix!
Other than that, I love the overall PeakD experience!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!
(PeakD is a beneficiary of part of the rewards from this post)

Love Cats? Get Involved in Hive's Cat Communties!
If you're a cat lover and often/sometimes post pictures or other content that includes your feline friends, why not become an active part of Hive's growing Cat Communities?
These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Remember, you can also "cross-post" your cat posts to them!
HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!
Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!
Caturday Community by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!
Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS! It has a lot of subscribers but is not very active.
Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community; it's there, but not very active.
Last, but certainly not least, a special shoutout to the recently formed Hive Pets Community which has become quite active and has quite a bit of cat content!
There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!

My human let's me use the peakD. He says it is the most kitty friendly..?
WTH.!!
You sayin' there is kitty un friendlies on here.?!?
Oh no, we definitely don't want any Kitty UN-friendlies! How awful!
=^..^=
Yay to the 30 days default, even if keeping the "show more" option.
