Riftwatchers Pre-Sale sells out in Under 2 Minutes!!
Wow! What a trip that was. In case you weren't aware, the pre-sale for the Riftwatchers pack sold out in under 2 minutes this afternoon. If you weren't prepared and watching the countdown timer, ready to hit the buy button, you probably missed it.
There are still 2.3M+ packs available so the entire set hasn't sold out or anything, but the first 500k gave the bonus promo card so they were obviously in high demand.
I was fortunate enough to get my buy in during that first minute but it was a little hairy as I was listening to the VoiceChat in the Discord and heard the guys watching the number go up by tens of thousands at a time. Because of that, I missed the box where I apparently had to put in my Vouchers for the bonus packs so they didn't come with my purchase. I now have to go through support to get those added to my account, which, thankfully, the guys recognized was a common problem and something that should have been pre-filled by the site since it was a mad scramble to get in before they sold out.
All in all, the future continues to look really, really bright for the entire #Splinterlands ecosystem. I can't wait to be able to open my packs when the deck goes live in a couple weeks.
Anyone else able to get some packs?

Silly me thought we’d have at least a few hours.
I kinda thought that too, but I wasn't taking any chances. Good thing I didn't. The common Dr Blight (the promo card for Chaos Legion) is still selling for around $70 and the gold foil is around $500. Both of those numbers are actually down a bit lately so...might be good buys for someone who doesn't have them or wants to possibly invest. Not financial advice, obviously.
Anyway, I think the latest promo card will probably start quite a bit higher than that so....the next tough decision is whether to sell them to recoup some of the investment, or combine them and actually use them in the game. It really looks like a great card so...we'll see. I'm sure I will absolutely hate it if someone uses it against me and I don't have it. Decisions, decisions...

Yeah, it's slowed way down now that the promo card is no longer available. They had 600k sold in the first 20 minutes and have only sold another 40k since. Being that you can't open them for another 12 days or whatever, the urgency is no longer there. I expect they'll be available for at least another couple months but...you never know with this crazy game.

Yeah, it's amazing how much demand there can be when people see value. That and urgency. The promo cards were only available for the first 500k packs so...now that they're gone, things have slowed way down.
The nice thing, though, is that the money for these packs is not going into Splinterlands pockets. It's all going back in the DAO so it will be used to support the game and enhance the players/community experience. Win, win.

I wasn't planning to buy into it but I am kind of surprised to see it sell out so fast. I guess anyone who wasn't sitting right there at the start did not get in on those promo cards.

I was thinking it would take about 10 minutes but I was pretty sure it was going to happen quick. I actually came home from work early to make sure I was there for the beginning.
I just got a pack now. The pre-sale was in the middle of the night for me so I was sound asleep on a work night, I never had a chance. These things really should be limited and offered to 500 000 individual players. Just feeding whales....
I get that point of view but from a business standpoint, they need to feed the whales. Without them, the whole economy falls apart.
It's just like Vegas; the casinos cater to the whales who come in and lose all the money. All the nickel and penny slots, while profitable, are not what keep the lights on. It's the big spenders who keep infusing the businesses with the cashflow they need to keep growing.
You needed 50 packs in order to get a guaranteed promo card anyway so it $250 in SPS plus 50 Vouchers. Not cheap no matter how you slice it. We'll see how many of the cards ultimately become must-have. It may end up being that only a few of them are worth paying for in which case, buying them directly from the market may end up being the way to go. Time will tell...

Yeah fair call. Maybe limit it to 50 packs per person, like a pre sale list, and once everyone gets 50 then you can get a second 50 and so on. being a global game, it makes sense to me.
