Looking for Support in crypto? Me too

avatar

After having, yet another, interaction with some support. I thought it was about time I wrote a post talking about it and my thoughts on "support" in the crypto space.

Support or lack thereof

An all too common occurrence is the fact that most crypto projects almost completely lack support. If you are lucky there is a link to a Telegram or a Discord where you can "ask questions". And then all you have to do is pray to RNGesus that they get answered. And that you don't get completely bombarded by scammers contacting you.

Something that is all too common. I remember when I joined the Pancake Sap telegram. Mind you I just joined, I did not post anything, no question, no nothing. Just joined the channel. Within seconds I was literally bombarded by messages from "support" asking how they could help me.

I even got two voice calls from "support" asking me about things I needed help with. For some of them, I asked a few questions about things I wanted to know about. Mind you questions that had nothing to do with crypto. This usually led to me getting a few ??? then they hung up or deleted the conversation.

A few of them who messaged me even had "will not DM first" in their name. I mean those people are true heroes. They take scamming to the next level.

So to say that I am annoyed with companies or dApps that take this route is probably an understatement. And just to crown it off. Another dApp had a support form. And of course, I used it when a question popped up. But I did not get an answer. Then I joined their Telegram because I was looking for some info that apparently was there. And I got talking to a dec or community person. And apparently, they never use that email form. All support is on Telegram.

Support that way, probably, maybe...

But all is not turs burgers on Telegram. I have one story to share where a Dev went above and beyond to help. I had managed to get some of my crypto stuck on an Eth layer 2 dApp. But in the dApp, there was an "emergency swap". This lets you swap some of your crypto into Eth so you would be able to swap the gas in the dApp to the dApp crypto.

But thanks to my normal luck, this obviously was not working for me. So I looked around for some support. And of course, there it was, my favorite link to Telegram. All scammers joy. So I reluctantly started it up, joined, and asked a question. Died a little inside thanks to a few scammers. But then a dev popped up. We talked and then swapped over to DM.

I told him about my issue. And over the following 5-6 days he tried everything he could think of to try and help me. But everything we tried turned out not to be working. And then finally, out of nowhere, send me some Eth so I was able to make the swaps and transactions. That is hands down the best support I have had, crypto or no crypto.

And in case you wondering why I just did not send over some Eth myself. I tried but the gas fee where ~$25 at the time which was more Eth than I had available to me.

Actual proper support support

But there are a few places that actually have the normal type of support. And sadly all too often these are the big centralized companies. The CEXes and the like. But are they fairing any better? Well, the obvious answer is yes. Because dedicated people will 9/10 times do a better job than other people doing the support lite thing.

But then there is the 1 out of 10 times. And thanks to the all mighty RNGesus that 1 out of 10 seems to happen to me more than it should. I have a little over 1 $ETH staked over at Binance. And when you stake it in the Eth 2.0 you get a 1:1 $BETH back. This you can use sort of like $ETH. But I got to thinking the ~5% interest, was I getting that on the $ETH I had staked or was I getting it from the $BETH?

 "fb708243594a5683958794827609216c6cd548b70f9b4ace15b537a393e226e1.jpg"

Naturally, I went to the support and asked. I asked what I thought was a simple yes or no question. But what I got was not a yes or no answer. Did this mean that I could swap most of my $BETH and use it for other things, and still get the full interest?

 "9358b8532a7d4456b772753aa6027050c3d230d6a4cf6df3c59651dd4961295d.jpg"

I finally got the answer, indirectly, to my question. By the looks of things, I was not able to keep only a small portion of my $BETH and still get the full interest. The interest appeared to be based on my total $BETH. But this interest he was talking about now got my attention. Because what he described was a 10% interest. While the staking, as far as I know, was "only" at around 5%.

 "fd0781f7ad9d9c30249891d29df2f7a96819a2ae1e3087994ef37475030077db.jpg"

About now I was getting a little annoyed, as is probably apparent in my text. But this 10% interest had gotten my attention. And what followed was a 10-15 min deep dive into staking where I was trying to see how much $ETH I had staked, and then how much $BETH I had gotten. Al because I wanted to find the 10% thing he said.

I tried to track my $ETH deposit because I thought that maybe it was a 10% deposit bonus thing. And one that I had missed. But alas, it was not so. But what I did learn was that the interest he told me about in the beginning. That was just a made-up thing because he wanted to tell me how interest work, in an extremely simplified way.

 "63df4ec26ac9ec3e7c1bc0f4958704ad1c313db5c68152fdce074bc81db2146d.jpg"

And there we are. I finally asked again about the 0.1 $BETH in interest he was talking about earlier. And that is correct, it was all just made up. And you know what they say about assuming? When you assume, you make an ass of u and me.

And upon this bombshell of a revelation, I tried as best I could to pass on my experience to the support person. In hope of them being able to "level up" if you will. And of course, my feedback was met with much rejoicing, singing, and dancing. And we are now the best of friends. Or they simply responded with only "Okey".

Well, that is my support experience. And only the latest of many interactions that probably have taken years of me.

I hope that you at least found some entertainment in my interactions with the support. Because I for the most part have not. =) And if you would like to share any stories of your encounter with support, good or bad crypto, or not.
