When Do Hivers Post And Vote The Most?
So, when do Hivers post and vote the most?
Having in mind Hive is a global community posting and voting time can vary a lot. Different time zones etc. Can users optimize their posting time, so they get some more attention?
This is an interesting topic so here we go. Data about when Hiver’s post and vote/curate.
It’s been almost a year from the last time we looked into this topic in this post. Have things changed since then? A lot of time has passed since then, the HIVE price has up and downs, time to revisit.
Here we will be running the data for posting and voting time in parallel, so users can compare them. We will be looking at the hours, and at the days of the week, and combine them for a heat map.
We will be analyzing a four-week period, February 21 to March 20.

Hours
First the hours. Let’s take a look what time of the day Hivers post and vote the most in the period.
Note again on the UTC time.
On the posting side we can see that there is a clear trend, where there is more posting between 13h to 22h UTC, with a peak somewhere around 15h. There is like a secondary peak around 22h.
Between 4 and 8, there is the lowest number of posts. The ratio of the post in the low hours to high hours is almost 1:2.
On the voting/curating side there is a similar pattern. For the off peak hours there is slight sift and the voting decay earlier starting from 2h to 6h.
The data above is a sum of all the posts in these hours for the period analyzed.
Days Of The Week
Now that we have seen the hours data, lets take a look at the days of the week. What days of the week Hivers post and vote the most?

A clear trend on the posts here. Monday and Tuesday are the days with the highest numbers of post, while the weekend not as much. Interesting Tuesday has a higher number of posts then Monday.
Similar pattern for the votes, although interesting Sunday has a bit more votes, on a similar level as Friday. Maybe hivers want just to read and curate on Sunday.
Heatmap
Combing the days and hours and we get the heat map.
First the post:
We can see that the start of the week between 14h and 18h is quite busy. Overall, the 14h to 18h are having more posts, same as from the hours chart. The 5 to 8 period is more quite.
The votes heatmap** looks like this.
Again, vote seems more random than post. Some spikes happening randomly between hours and days. Although there is more activity in the period as for the posts, that is 13h to 22h. Again, Sunday looks busier for voting then Saturday. Between 2h and 7h is obviously more quiet for voting as well.

These are a bit smaller, but we can still do some comparison.
The numbers of posts have clearly a larger differentiation, or bigger oscillation so to speak then the votes. Votes are more evenly spread. They drop more in the off hours so to speak between 2 and 7, than the number of votes. This is probably because of the autovotes. The votes drop as well in those hours but not as much as the posts. The peak hours are still the same.

Amazing stats and the infographics show posting on Hive similar to a job being lower on the weekends and more active in the afternoon of the work days. It seems that people aren't blogging outside working hours as I would have thought off...

Depends what time zone you are ... for Europe it seems that it is after working hours, for US it is in the working hours :)
I think people won't blog in their normal job. Maybe they reed and give upvotes ... But if you are selfemployed like me, it's different ... :-)
I think during the weekend, People prefer to double down and actually take the time off. It's interesting because on Monday, people are back again.

I had long ago noticed the posting timing on the weekends. It is interesting to see an article done in depth in such activity.
yes but if you have connection, a good community around your post and you do updates on the weekend it's also okay ... I did always my "schmidis HIVE update of the week" on saturday ... okay I stoped it now...
This statistics is really nice to know especially the frequent times postings do come in, it's really nice and I think most of the posting is during leisure time when doing so

I post every day bar Sunday, and the posting time is always in the morning hours for me :) great data as always!

depends. routine can be a good thing! :)
I post everyday and i post most of my posting in the morning, except am busy in the morning then in the afternoon.
Weekend people may be resting or be busy at home work getting ready for the new week.
I used to post at random, but later on, I understood my audience and time zone and started posting based on their time zone, so they get to see my post and catch up.

Great information. I always try to post around 18:00 UTC, it is the time that is most convenient for me to post. I noticed that posting around 18:00 was yielding the most upvotes so I decided to always aim for around that time.
Interesting, always been curious if there was a particular time people vote more.

Sort of struck me as important to take into account, and reminded me a bit of my time as an online poker player – when action would vary greatly during and over days. How do you get the numbers, do you have HiveSQL queries you are using, for instance?

Cool. Quite informative. It's no doubt one really needs to optimise their time usage to explore hive optimally.

Actully SUPER powerful information. I use this for other social media platforms as well. Posting when the most people are active can get you much better results and a further reach. Looks like my focus of 11am - 2pm EST seems to be on the money. Was trying to figure this out myself over the months to see when the best time to post was. Night time does pretty half decent as well but hit it too late and the results normally fall off hard.
I'd love it if Hive provided stats like this heck even hivestats.io but narrow it down per user and how many are following vs not following. That would be something I'd be willing to shell out a few Hive/LEO for each month.

Like how many of your followers are voting your posts and at what time?

would look something like 70% following/Subscribed 30% not following/not subscribed It would give you a little idea as to how organic your reach is on Hive ecosystem to people not following you.
These amazing stats are useful. It's so interesting to read these. When you go on hive, you never really think about all this. Statistics are useful so you know when there is more posts to look at that suits you !
Yeah, it really is about knowing your target audience. If you're posting on a regular basis, I don't think there would be too much difference because your followers will usually find you. But if you only post here and there, I think this is definitely something people should pay attention to.
I agree with an earlier poster saying that hive.stats or even PeakD should look at posting this on their front page somewhere and update it weekly/monthly. Very useful information, especially for newbies, but all can benefit.

I have been posting for 6 years now and always figured the best time post was between 9am and 1pm New York time.
I live in Sydney - so 11 hours away from UTC. I know from 593 investing posts that posting daytime, my time is always a poor vote result.
Your data shows exactly the quiet spells overlap fully with Australian day time. LeoFinance does have the ability to schedule posts BUT I have never been able to get one to work. I wake up in he morning to Broadcast error. Sucks.

Yep, interesting data, graphs, charts and information in general. But if I'm honest, I would say that nobody "personally" would have to lose sleep trying to make "plans" about when the heck publish their content & own posts just based on all these specific stats.
Given that from a "personal" point of view, there are still a lot of crucial variables that will continue to influence the success of their posts in terms of being widely seen, well curated and well rewarded. Like by instance:
What a cool initiative this is! In my case, I post the same time daily and vote at random times. It seems the Hive is busy at work while I sleep soundly hehe since the peak posting time on the heat map (14-18h) is wee hours in my side of the world.
