Hello and welcome to my page. I'm @daniky and this is my entry to the question of the week challenge, an initiative by @ecotrain. Kindly follow me as i share my thought with you regarding the question of the week which states that "What actions do you think are needed in your local area?"

Nigeria is said to be the giant of Africa and African most populous country of over 213million citizens having a land mass of 923,768 km². Despite this huge statistics, it's quite unfortunate that there's loss of balance both in the administrative arm of the government which has negatively impacted the nation communities as a whole. The Federal Executive council (FEC) which is usually championed by either the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or his vice president are the leading rulers of the country and have failed in some of their core obligatory tasks which holds some abled and concerned citizens with no option but to look for ways forward into an action in developing their local areas or territories.

For me, below are actions needed to be taken in my local area;

1.Constructions of good roads: Aside from the federal highways, there's a need to look into streets and pedestrians within communities here as there had been serious issues arising from car breakdown and accidents due to bad road network. Most of these road were awarded to major contractors to work on but instead, these contractors spend far less than required amount of money to purchase substandard materials or less coal tars in a bead to embezzle the roadproject money.

What i suggest is that most of these road contracts should be awarded to trusted contractors of a reputable engineering company such as Julius Berger, Piccollo and others to carry on the task competently with adequate supervision. By this, the issue of road accidents and galloping will be at its bearest minimum.

2.Uninterrupted Electric Power Supply: Over the years, Nigeria has been known to be a country that supplies light to other neighboring African countries without boasting of constant electric power supply for its citizens. Though this aspect is gradually improving due to the emergence of electric meter that measures the amount of electricity consumed and this is helping to reduce the stress of unlawful billings or inflationary charges on direct electric connection by the power holding company of Nigeria (PHCN).

My suggestion about this is that the PHCN officials should reduce of cost of electricity consumption while the government should reduce electric meter tariff and serve more communities and states with constant power supply.

3.Reduce Water tariff: Water, food and shelter are known to be the basic needs of life. Due to high cost of living, affording drinkable water is now becoming a more difficult task for the less average citizens as sachet and bottle water is now becoming a huge business while many people in my locality are unable to afford good drinking water.

My take on this is for boreholes to be constructed at strategic points within my locality and other streets. This will help reduce water inflation and predispose the masses to sustainable drinking water thereby reducing water born diseases which may cause harm to the body, infant maternal mortality rate, death, cholera and host of other unwanted diseases.

4.Improving Agricultural production and Economy: No doubt the country is blessed with massive fertile lands for agricultural production but more priority is given to petroleum leaving the country with no other option than to increase their import rate beyond the threshold. This in turn has led to the drastic loss in value of the Naira local currency against the standardized dollar value. More appreciation is given to foreign goods than our local goods while most of commercial farmers lives are been hunted down by the notorious fulani herds men. This has resulted into inflation and loss of the Naira value as more emphasis is paid to importation of goods and services. Embezzlement of funds by the political leaders is also another issue affecting the economy and many more.

My suggestion and on this is to strengthening the security network of the country's farm localities, dwell more on agricultural to reduce cost of farm produce and sanction and prosecute political rulers or offenders who breaks the rule of law and order guiding the Constitution of the locality and the federal republic of Nigeria.

I wish to use this medium to appreciate the admin and moderation teams of @ecotrain for bringing this wonderful initiative to our doorstep and i hope it will go a long way to help build and strengthening the cordiality of users and the ecovillages as well.

Water ,food and shelter are very important ,infact lack of it is the major definition of poverty..

And many people often have trouble to access these. Sometimes me too. I was homeless multiple times during my life, even as a child, so I know how it feels to be a homeless. And I am not even from Africa, but from Hungary.
