Account Update: 8000HP reached, and choosing to buy Hive

Well, it's been 5 months or so since my last post its probably worth looking over it again and seeing what's what.

I suppose, it's worth noting that I am now at over 8000HP, still small change compared to many, but still slowly increasing and becoming more significant each day. Add that to the 1400HP of my alt account @earthsea and that becomes just over 9500HP. It stood at 8300HP 5 months ago so a gain of 1200HP in that time is not bad considering how intermittent my posting can be.

Could I do better?

Yes I totally could, but for one thing it would require time I don't really have. Each post I write generally talks a couple of hours to put together. I'm not really one for banging out a quick post (2 pictures and 2 sentences) and I am not prepared to write a shit-post on principle.

It doesn't help that the stuff I talk about takes a long time to do in the first place. Eg a post on photography takes 2 hours to write, but also 3 hours to shoot and 4 hours to edit.

It might sound like I'm making excuses...

Actually, yeah I am... I must try harder.

The graph shows the general lack of consistency, but one thing that helps is the curation (the blue bits). As my stake gets larger, I am slowly building up more curation rewards. Most of this is down to auto-voting, but I manually curate anything interesting I stumble across.

I have recently changed some of the accounts I voted for, there were several on my list that regularly get big payouts, and while they totally deserve it due to the effort and contribution to the community, I want to try to spread it around some of the smaller accounts where my vote can be more significant.

You can also see where I have powered up Hive. The first chunk (approx 60 Hive) was done from selling the ragnorok/larynx tokens that were airdropped. I'll be honest that I didn't know much about either project, and saw the opportunity for free HIVE, so I took it. The other Hive powerups represents the first time I have bought Hive via real money since way back when it was trading at 10 cents.

Why?

Well, I guess... I am becoming increasingly confident in Hive beig part of the future of crypto in some way.

But I am also thinking about ways to make work for me for effctively. We all know that saving accounts in banks are fundamentally useless. I left some money in there for emergancy purposes, but any spare cash I had after each pay day was being moved into Bitcoin.

That bitcoin fund is split between a hardware wallet, and a Block-fi savings account. I used to get 6% interest from Block-fi, but they have recently announced changes to the interest rate from 6% to 4.5% and now just 3%. Its time to think about options elsewhere.

hbd april.png

And would you know it, there is!

The HBD savings rate was great at 12% and it is even better at 20%. So for the first time in 14 months I bought some BTC on coinbase, transferred it to ionomy to exchange for Hive, and then I traded it for HBD on the internal market here.

Is the 20% sustainable or sensible? Who knows... the intricacies are beyond me. But to be fair no one knows what the future will bring, as there are simply too many variables to consider. Some people may be able to make pretty accurate guesses, but they will only ever be guesses.

But for now at least any spare HBD I have lying around will go straight into Savings, I'd be daft not to.

In my last post I mentioned a friend got me to invest in some crypto (Solana and Cardano) over on eTorro. 2 days after I did so, I realized what a mistake that was, purely because I couldn't move it into my own wallet. It was purely a case buying low and trying to sell high. This idea of trying to second guess the markets is a step away from gambling.

I'm not interested in the slightest....

I am investing in crypto as a method of payment or investment in the future, because I actually want to use it, and for now at least, Hive is perfect for that.

Hence the fact that after shouting at eTorro for 6 months, I decided to sell both SOL and ADA at a loss, and transferred the cash it to Hive and put it to work!

You know what? I need to get to work too!

Hopefully this shouldn't need saying as I am obviously VERY new to this 'investing in crypto' stuff. This is not financial advice, and I strongly encourage you to do your own research to decide what is best for you etc etc.

Putting out quality content takes time but it pays off even if you don't do it consistently.

We are all learning daily to further increase our knowledge in crypto investing, so it's normal to face some ups and downs too.

For a noob like me, I see HBD savings as Gem that I can easily use to start my investment journey.

Congrats on your Hive stake.

Agreed, and I'd rather try to post quality content randomly, compared to consistently posting rubbish.

And yes, as someone who doesn't enjoy the 'gambling' nature of crypto investing, I fully appreciate the 'stability' of HBD

Thank you, and thanks for stopping by

I sold all my ADA some time ago, it was stuck on an exchange giving me nothing. You can stake it but the return is crap.

Glad I'm not the only one who got fed up with it. I ended up with a loss of approx 60%, but as far as I could tell, the choice was between 60% loss and 90% loss so I got out while I still could.

and yeah, I didn't realize it was just for trading only... I won't make that mistake again

I have taken some losses during trading, and some hefty gains. In the end, they probably evened each other out which is hardly ideal.

HBD is great at 20%, SPS is better at around 25%, and it will go up.. that's a no brainer.

I'm increasingly finding it hard to find time to curate. I blog daily as a challenge to myself and it doesn't take me too long, but I've powered down to put some in savings as that 20 percent is pretty healthy.

There's just never enough time is there?

It's the reason I use auto-votes to catch the authors I enjoying reading, which means I don't need to be on here all day everyday.

I do need to remember to check my auto-votes from time to time, especially the newer accounts, many of whom stop after a couple of months or start posting low-effort work.

I'd love to write daily, but when I try it feels forced and quickly becomes a chore and I just don't enjoy it.

Kudos to you for managing to do it though - it's something for me to aspire to

I don't think autovotes are bad if you are doing them that way. Kind of like Patreon, with added bonus of getting curation rewards back . Win win!! I'm trying to do 365 days in a row. Crazy. It's almost become like brushing my teeth. I don't think I ever wrote shit posts, or try not to!

thats true, getting more HP makes it harder to curate more posts equially to the content... I feel I am ending up giving more power to my auto-voting for the authors who I consider not abusing it, I mean, producing blongs on the high level (without this rubbish thing that dannewton is speaking about...)

Dan, I understood very little of this, if I am honest. Curating? Airdropped? Auto-voting? We need to meet up buddy so I can pick your brains. So good to see you doing so well on here though. And you can tell your content is thought out and not slapped together (a la me).

(Edited)

It is over whelming to the uninitiated for sure. I've been here approaching 2 years, and I'm slowly beginning to understand.

Air dropped - is a term for when people are given tokens, usually at the start of a project.

curating is a fancy term for voting. you already know that you get a small reward for it.

auto voting is making that process automatic. - https://hive.vote/ Eg I have set it up so that when certain authors post I will give them an automatic vote a few minutes afterwards. The idea is to reward people who frequently post interesting content, but I don't always have a chance to read them. It also means I can receive consistent rewards (currently I earn 10 Hive each week just for voting on stuff). Its only a small amount, but it is continuously building

But yes, I'd be more than happy to meet up and and go through some this with you... we are over due a decent catch-up, and I can try to help you transfer some of the stuff from your old account at the same time

oh and my content is slapped together, I just spend 2 hours each time trying to mold it into something worth reading!

Let me know when you are free buddy, I'm guessing it will more likely be weekends. Perhaps we could go to the Wave, I could treat you to a breakfast for the help

hey, I am totally in the same boat with you. need no excuses, we all are laborious bees, but theres life, and spending each day 1, 2, 3 hours for blogging... isnt a must option. thats how I look at it. so, on one hand no, but on another hand yes - yes, the short posts with minimum text and images editing is what can slightly benefit to the blog... I mean, not giving it to dust. dixi!

...and a !BEER 😋
my congratulations with the 9,5k mark!

I know... its trying to find that balance between creating something valuable, and the time it takes to create it.

I wish I was more efficient lol. I sit down to write a 30 minute post, and finally finish it 2 hours later!

...and thanks! I do like to celebrate with a !BEER 😉

That is amazing, I for one know how long your photography posts take including the shoot and editing process.
Your curation rewards are great too, and I appreciate your upvotes.
