Learning New Things - Journey to a HE Lite Node Done

Three days ago, I shared with everyone how I had hit a major issue and could not proceed in getting my HE lite node up and running.

I was not about to give up and throw in the towel and let it beat me. I was going to stick to it and get the witness up if it took weeks or months to accomplish. I was determined.

The day before yesterday, I was very lucky when @rishi556 responded to my question and started to look at the errors that I was encountering. I would send screen shots of the errors that occurred and I would receive back fixes to those errors.

One by one we managed to work through each of them. Than wham a back error that was very puzzling that needed some thought.

Later that night, we got back together to see what action steps could be taken. In the discussion, it was discovered that I had just set up the new server and it was bare-bones.

Once this was known, I was advised to run a specific command after which the instructions worked like a charm.

Due to all of his assistance, I have set them up as a 30% beneficiary on this post so that he can have a little something for the time spent helping others.

0 Blocks Ahead

The program was up and running, working perfectly or so I thought.

Once the program was up and running, then it had to catch up to be in sync with the rest of the servers and reach "0 Blocks Ahead". Well guess what, here is where I messed up again otherwise I would have been up and running a day earlier.

Well in my rush to get my programing issues resolved, I had already completed the steps for getting the "latest" database snapshot loaded on my server. That was the step that actually was the easiest for me. I was so proud that I had been able to get one thing to work on my own.

When we were able to get the program up and running, the "latest" snapshot was three days old. So much for latest....The counter read over 77,000 Blocks Ahead. The good news is now all I had to do was wait.

I think the waiting was actually the hardest part of the whole process. I kept checking to see if it was making progress and if the program was still running. Since all I had was issues, I was expecting another shoe to drop and that I would need to start all over again.

It finally happened. Last night around 10pm CST, it showed "0 Blocks Ahead".

I was getting so anxious it was pitiful. All I needed to do was run one more command to register as a HE witness and I would be finished with the Journey.

The command worked and I showed up on the list. However where the version was supposed to show, it showed three ? (???), my server was not reachable. I put my head in my hands and ask myself "What Now". Being on the list is not good enough if there is no communication between my server and the rest of them.

I reached out again and was provided the command. it worked like a charm and the version showed up and then I was in the rotation and my first block was witnessed.

Journey Done

So now the Journey to a HE Lite Node Witness is complete and a new Journey has begun. Now I must keep it up and running so I still have a lot to learn. I am looking forward to this new Journey.

I must admit, I have learned so much and it has made me want to learn so much more about this new world of which I have just touched the surface.
