POBPhotoContest - White Clouds but Not
I turned and looked out the window wandering what was going on. I knew there had not been any clouds in the sky earlier. Why are there clouds now?
As I looked closer I could see the bright orange of the fire at the bottom of the plumb of smoke and the ground. The flames growing wider and higher. They looked tiny from my view point but that was over 10 miles away so I knew if I could see the flames, it was a very large fire.
Later I learned that it was a 340 acre grass fire started along the highway. It has been so dry and hot around here that any small spark or ember from someone smoking could start a fire. The grass crackles when you walk across the yard.
I stood there and watched the smoke rise for several minutes. The plumb of smoke started to look like a mushroom and then started to melt away. I hope it did not destroy much property.
