You think you have seen it all! What about the blind spot you are on? Why do things happen the way they are? Why do we act, and how it's related to all?

Like every other day, I, alongside my friends, was waiting for an auto-rickshaw on the road to reach the market. When a six-seated auto arrived, we got on it, and another person was sitting on the best seat possible, and a space for one was available beside him, but none of my friends sat with him. While seeing him, everyone seemed pleased and welcomed him with As-salamu Alaykum. He shook his head in response and gave a tame smile.

I love to communicate and make jokes. I am someone who doesn’t play along with what is taught and believed. If possible, I love to question and find the true meaning of things and ways, but there are always limitations.

Every time I would prefer the front seat if I am alone, but while with my friends, I love to sit with as many people as possible. So, that day, I would choose the seat beside that person, but I completely ignored him and sat beside the driver, which was my second option regarding the circumstance.

When our group is gathered in an auto, there will be laughter, jokes, and much talking. As everything was not going accordingly, so it’s not hard to guess we were behaving as much as we could. There was pin-drop silence from us.

That person was no stranger. We all knew him very well. He is the most famous and influential person in our area, the President of the Awami League of our region. He is not even an elected candidate of the ruling party, but we have witnessed ministers of Bangladesh waiting for him in his house. So, he was powerful, and he used to maintain a mood.

That day he was wearing a white Punjabi with a matching lungi alongside black leather slippers with no belt behind. How can I forget his white cap with a green touch and little holes surrounded by light golden glitters? After all, I delivered it to his home. My father gifted him this cap and some bottles of attars he brought from India. I don’t know how I remember all of those so nicely. I had never even given a proper look before delivering that cap and never saw him wearing that.

The rickshaw tour was about three to four minutes at best. That person was the first one to get down. I was the second and looked at him while walking and asked how he was doing. He smiled and asked about my studies. He was my uncle. We share the same property as the heir of my grandmother. He was her nephew.

I didn’t sit beside him because of the awkwardness in front of my friends and what he might ask! Where am I going, and what am I doing with these people? He wouldn’t even hesitate to ask in front of them. That’s the reason why I ignored him in the first place.

Then we played carom in a shop there was a sudden rush among people, and I was too busy with my game to focus on those, after having snacks we played Badminton and returned to our home.

And do you know how I remember everything about him that day? He complained to my father, β€œI don’t respect the elders properly.” The funny thing is that the complaint was not about sitting beside or ghosting him in the first place; it was about why I didn’t welcome him saying As-salamu Alaykum. He addressed me as arrogant! I have my reason for that, and we will come to that later.

As the title demands, I asked one of my friends about this incident. He told me we were going to play carom board and badminton afterward. In the auto seeing my uncle, none were comfortable. They all wanted to catch another one, but thinking of me, they got on to it. The auto driver was happy about my uncle traveling on his auto. My uncle wanted to pay all of ours fair, but the auto driver refused to take any of it. When my uncle left, they paid for the whole fair, and the auto driver was so happy he opened up about this short ride with my friends and how he wasn’t pleased about my uncle riding his auto. Seeing him, no one would ride in his auto, and he had to count a loss, and in the end, the driver will never accept fare from him despite dying for it.

After that, we played carom, and suddenly someone said the police were coming to raid. That place was the heart of betting, from cricket to Ludu. Hearing that, everyone was rushing, even those who were not guilty. We didn’t run because they had me, and in my area, the police would never trouble me for those silly matters I had nothing to do with. Well, that day being his nephew, wasn’t totally bad after all. Then we had snacks and played badminton.

It's sad that the uncle can't be included in the fun, he's a person too. Is this fiction or nonfiction???

Hi @darthhelios. Welcome to The Ink Well, and thank you for joining us with this interesting nonfiction essay.

We'll provide some pointers here so you can get to know our community. Most importantly, please be sure to read our community rules, which are posted at the top of The Ink Well community home page](https://peakd.com/c/hive-170798/created). A few callouts:

  • We are all about quality short stories and engagement. We do not accept multi-part stories, so please do not write your story in chapters. It should be complete within one post.
  • We ask everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other writers' work in the community for every story published.
  • You can find an overview of our community and what we're about in our manifesto.
  • We provide weekly writing prompts to inspire our community of creative writers. You can find these pinned to the top of the community.

Again, welcome!

As a newbie in this community, I was unfamiliar with these rules. Thanks for keeping me updated.

By the way, the story ends here; the other part was about learning and point of view, which isn't that important. So, I will finish it here.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
