One of the things I wish to accomplish soonest in life is to have my own house, stop paying rent and have no business with any landlord whatsoever. I know this is the wish of so many people and God will do it for us. Amen. It can be very annoying when unnecessary issues that are not planned for begin to happen and swift actions are not taken.

I got a new apartment some months back and I asked some cogent questions before paying the rent through the company that is managing the house. My major concern was that I do not want to rent an apartment that has debt or arrears on the prepaid meter. I have been a victim of having to pay for the power that I didn't consume.

This is how it's been done - each time you purchase power units, there will be a 50 - 50 deduction. 50% for the units that will be received and 50% will be used to settle the debts. For instance, if you but a #2000 unit, about #1000 unit will be given to you and the remaining #1000 will be used to offset the debts gradually till it is finished.

This particular apartment does not have a meter yet and they promise to get it fixed within a month. They claimed they have paid for it and it will be ready soon. The prepaid meter was finally fixed after about two months. So, I discovered there is a debt of #32,920 on the meter when I tried to purchase some units. I was heartbroken. I have experienced it before and I know they will want to play a smart one on me.

I have been to their office and complained about the unacceptable thing they are doing. They put a call through to the man in charge of the electricity in my area and he confirmed that the previous tenant had an outstanding balance and it was transferred to the new meter. They promised to contact the owner of the house to know the way forward. I hope they will clear the bill once and for all so I don't have to go through all these stress.

Na the wahala wey we dey settle be this o....

Thank you for your time lovelies .

I'm glad they are cooperating. The fight I took to their office is that they should not even think of saying it was the light I used before the arrival of the meter. I hope they resolve it soonest

Sorry about the phcn issue. One must do their due diligence before renting an apartment by asking all the important questions. This way you can make demands when things are not right. Hopefully, the issue is resolved soonest. Cheers!

Thanks @nonsowrites. I did my best to ask questions o. It was even looking as if my own was too much at some point to the caretaker. One of the first thing I told myself I will address when I see an apartment I like is the light issue. I would have confirmed if there was debt from buypower if there was an existing meter but I was made to believe the house isn't owing...

Thanks for stopping by.

Sorry about that. Sometimes I wish these people could be beaten till the money comes out of their ass.
