Anniversary Time: Six Years in Hivelandia — Wow!

Wow, it's January 29th again... and that means it has now been six years since I first stumbled upon this community.

Fun fact: You could buy Bitcoin for $916.78 on the day I joined "Hive 1.0!"

Each year I have an anniversary here, I can't help but feel a little surprised. I guess it's my lingering past experiences from participating on "sites that pay you for content" that rear their ugly heads, because the norm was always that things dried up and vanished after a year or two.

The almost inevitable consequence of offering the world an opportunity to "get rewarded" (for almost ANYthing) tends to be that it brings out the worst in a certain class of people who only care about pulling every last cent from the system.

I'm grateful we've had a lot more staying power! I'm also grateful that I no longer check the site in the mornings with an edge of worry that I'll just get a blank page, and everything I worked at just gone. Cool!

A Tumultuous Year...

I guess it wasn't exactly the best year in the Cryptosphere... this time, last year, Hive was $0.95, already shedding value from its highs around the New Year. From our current vantage point of $0.41 Hive, those days now look a million miles away.

On the whole, I guess I am just grateful that I am not a crypto trader, but just someone who stays invested permanently in the same thing, as long as it looks like the going will continue to be good.

As far as I can tell, Hive is still on the right track to enjoy continued growth and development for years to come, and I am glad to be part of that.

Writing... Because I ENJOY it!

Bottom line is that I keep coming back here to share words and ideas because I really enjoy this kind of regular writing "exercise," and I really enjoy being part of this community.

Sure, it saddens me that there seem to be quite a few "missing persons," some of whom seem to have gone for good.

Although you should never say "never," because sometimes people suddenly have a change of heart or circumstances, and decide to show up, once again.

Of course, the cynic in me also realizes that when Hive shoots back up to $1.00 or more, all sorts of people will suddenly come crawling out of the woodwork!

By The Numbers:

As per usual, an anniversary post wouldn't be complete without some statistics to simply record and look back at from my — if the world is willing — 10th anniversary. I'm a numbers geek, after all.

As of this morning:

1,986 Top Level Posts (Up from 1,729 this time, last year)
16,411 Comments left
64,143 Upvotes given (virtually ALL of them all manually!)

Even though I may have to sell some Hive to pay for our property taxes (thanks to the rubbish economy, these days) I continue to see my participation here as a "long term endeavor." I'm grateful that I do have Hive as a "Hail Mary" funding option, when things go wrong!

Last, But Not Least...

It has been a challenging year on a personal level, as well. Both Mrs. Denmarkguy and I are self-employed and due to the slumping economy and inflation fears in the US of A, we have been experiencing shrinking "revenues" meeting a rapidly growing cost of living.

Of course, we're not alone in that boat... but there is something mildly depressing about working more and longer, for no greater purpose than to "stay in place."

On the upside, the past year's happy event was the marriage of our 31-year old daughter to her boyfriend of 7 years. So there's always something good!

And so... I shall bring this to a close with my "traditional" shoutout to fellow January 29th "Anniversarian" @tarazkp; another year under our belts... well done, mate!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your weekend!

And the best part of it is that hive is stronger than when you first began.
How does it feel to be six years on hive..
Happy birthday.

Thank you! Yes, things just seem to get stronger and better; it's a long slow process, so we have to be patient.

Six years is definitely a long time! And longer than I have participated on other blogging sites.

Patient is the key word, consistency adds value to it.

Happy Hive Anniversary!

Man, such a Memorable and Great journey You had on this Blockchain. I wonder what was the price of $Hive when BTC was at 916.78?

the norm was always that things dried up and vanished after a year or two.

Mostly was scam like don't even pay when reach at some point to withdraw and I was losing trust that online earning ever exist but well everything changed since crypto happened.

I know the feelings and also Grateful for being on such Amazing Platform with Awesome People around.

Your Stats are Amazing! Many more Years to Come. Congrats and have a Wonderful Sunday.

Thank you!

Well, it was actually STEEM, back then... and in January 2017 that token was about 15 cents... and on its way down to under 7 cents by late spring.

Yes, there are a lot of scams out there. Or just naive founders of venues who make big promises and fail to follow through because it either becomes "boring" or "too much work" to keep going.

I Got to know about Steem and it's story after joining hive. Good to know about price back then.

Good thing Hive is community owned which makes it fun and interesting.. always something new development going on and seeing realistic promises.
