What Not Building List Would Do to Your Brand

It's been like 17 years since I graduated. I tried out various startups and the content creation methods. I also tried to put up branding for my own small services around upwork, fiverr etc. None of them worked because all of that was chaotically spread and not pointing to brand.

So I learned the lesson that branding and having one focused place for all of my activity is a necessity in near times. But how can you get this one focused brand activity which is done by my scattered approach of promoting things?

This is where the mailing list comes into the play.

I literally ignored the list building from start. I thought I am not the guy like those shown on web who are selling something. I am just a programmer and into tech so why should I do something markety type?

I was wrong.

When you are trying too many things you have to create a funnel to make all of those things work for yourself. You need to build a landing page. You need to push the people to such pages to either build your list or sell them service or product right away.

Instead I was like write here and write there but do not build list or network with people. Again as expected I was wrong.

So lessons learned up till now?

1. Make a list. Start promoting your content ( be it youtube, blog posts etc)
2. Start networking both offline and online to push brands name.
3. Make a lead page if not, then have place for list building.
4. Have a minimal viable product of your own to sell.
5. If you don't have a product, promote product with high ROI on list.

So far learning from past mistakes and trying to build on this. I know it can be pretty difficult to build ahead considering that for 17 years I was doing things wrong and now I have to change mental programming to correct my own actions.

I started getting one thing done by creating a newsletter on database (Which is my niche), I created datasheet for promoting small snippets of news in this domain and also slowly promoting my content through it.
