"Liar, Liar! Your pants will literally be on fire!" The crowds chanted with gusto.

A harried Ms. Pym, the efficient secretary of the presidential nominee bustled around in search of her quarry. Having found the Master of Ceremonies (MC) for today's debate, she launched into speech.

"Mr. Vice President would like to know if he can do the debate without any pants?"

The MC's face was caught between terror and laughter. " Er no, for one he'd be arrested for public indecency and for another, it is the will of the people."

"It's a witch hunt! and obviously he'll wear pants."

"If he has nothing to lie about, he should wear The Pants." The MC responded sanctimoniously.

Ms. Pym chin quivered, and her long breaths seemed to blow up her face "Are you stupid. Everyone lies. If they say they are not lying, that's also a lie."

The MC opened and closed his mouth. He then cleared his throat "A politician should not lie about their promises. The questions for the debate were screened by professionals. We aren't asking him if he cheated on his math test in 1994, this is about real issues."

"Politicians often talk hypothetically and sometimes they talk about things in a broad manner to appeal to the general public. It's just a general idea, sure it can be technically considered a lie if you go into the nitty gritty of it, but you know..." Ms. Pym waved her hands in the air.

The MC rubbed his nose and stared at the sea of people that had turned up for the debate.

"You know after two world wars, a pandemic, strife going on in just about every part of the world, recession being imminent, I think the public deserve the truth. Sure, this method of using a lie detector wired in the pants started as a joke but it came to fruition because there was a need."

Ms. Pym looked at the other candidates who were being chased by their staff with a pair of pants and sighed. "Well, I hope you have fire extinguishers handy."
