A Step Towards Destiny

I stood in front of my mirror speaking huskily at my reflection as I tried to mimic my favorite reality TV star who I've been following since I could differentiate yellow colour from cream. It's always been my dream to retire the legendary Jose as the new favorite of reality TV, and this morning I have the chance to launch my career with the morning's auditions.

As I walked onto the set of the reality TV show, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nerves. This was my chance to make it big and become a star, but at the same time, I knew that every move I made would be captured on camera for millions of viewers to see.

"Hey, you must be the new contestant!" a production assistant greeted me with a smile.

"Yes, that's me," I replied, trying to hide my nerves.

"Well, let me show you around and introduce you to the other contestants," the assistant said, leading me towards a group of people chatting in the corner.

As the production assistant introduced us, I realized that these were the people I would be living with for the next few weeks. They all seemed friendly enough, but I knew that we were all here to compete for the grand prize, so I couldn't let my guard down.

"Hey, welcome to the show!" a tall, muscular guy greeted me, extending his hand.

"Thanks, it's great to be here," I replied, trying to sound confident.

"Let me introduce you to everyone," he said, pointing to each person in the group and giving me their name and a brief description of their background.

As we chatted, I couldn't help but notice the cameras positioned all around us. It was a little unnerving to know that every word I said and every move I made was being recorded and broadcast to millions of people.

After the introductions were done, the assistant led us to the dressing room where we would get ready for the first challenge. As we got changed, the other contestants and I made small talk, trying to get to know each other better. But I knew that I can't let my guard down as this was still a contest and I was here to win.

"So, what do you think the first challenge will be?" one of the contestants asked.

"I have no idea," I replied, feeling a little out of my depth.

"I heard it's going to be something physical," another contestant chimed in.

As we talked, the tension in the room began to rise. We were all here to win, and we knew that the first challenge would set the tone for the rest of the competition. But I tried as much as possible to hide my nerves by holding my head high and sounding confident at every opportunity.

"All right, contestants, it's time to head to the challenge area," a producer announced over the intercom.

We all grabbed our bags and headed out of the dressing room, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. This was it, the moment we had all been waiting for.

As we stepped onto the challenge area, I couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline. The challenge was a physical one, and I knew that I would have to give it my all if I wanted to come out on top.

"Okay, contestants, are you ready?" the host asked, looking directly into the camera.

We all nodded, our hearts beating fast with anticipation.

"Then let the challenge begin!" the host shouted, and the cameras started rolling.

For the next few hours, we gave it our all, pushing ourselves to the limit as we competed for the grand prize. We went about looking for a lost jewel. We needed to navigate dangerous route and compete against each other as well as other mean creatures. With cameras all around and the director's gaze fixed on us, there was no room for failure and anyone who failed in any of the tasks was eliminated and taken off stage.

Gradually a group of over 20 contestants was reduced to 10. But I kept going, never looking back. I knew I wasn't the best or fastest, but I persevered and kept going. Eventually Pete, the strongest and most agile of the group found the lost jewel hidden in the swamp.

"yes I found it" he echoed to the disappointment of the other contestants. Just as the coordinator blew his whistle to signal the end of the contest.

When it was all over, we were exhausted but exhilarated, knowing that we had given it our all.

As we headed back to the dressing room, the other contestants and I chatted excitedly about the challenge and what it meant for our chances of winning the competition. It was clear that we were all in this to win, but we also knew that we had to work together if we wanted to make it to the end.

As the day drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this show. It was an experience I would never forget, and I knew that it would change my life forever. I knew that it might not have been the beginning I envisaged, but a good springboard to fulfilling my dreams. So we keep going.

Beautiful write up, felt like you just set the stage for more to come, is there going to be another series?

You’ve set the scene and given us a group of interesting characters. However, we’d really like to know more about the contest and, perhaps, the jewel. You leave us without a resolution, making this piece feel like an introduction for something promising to come. Short stories should include a resolution.

wow😻, this is an interesting story I must say. I love the character development and how the story was structured. But the whole competition was a short and quick one.
