What's in a name? What's in my name?

When I was in highschool, there was this one teacher that would sing 'Caught in a trap', by Elvis when we walked by each other. This I guess was normal behavior, associating a person with a song, or really a tiny riff of a song. See my name is A. Trapp, and I always associated that with Admiral Ackbar, but this teacher associated that with Elvis.

It wasn't until later in life that I realized the song was called 'Suspicious Minds', and it was about jealousy. It wasn't until marriage that I started understanding the emotions expressed in the song - I'll leave it here for you to listen to.

Jealousy, obviously, is not a positive emotion. It exists within each of us, or within the ether around us perhaps, but that doesn't mean it is good for anything. When I look on internet blogs for the "positive side of jealousy", mostly what I am getting is about envy, so I want to address the difference between Jealousy and Envy, not everyone may agree or use the words in this way, but consider this:

Some people will argue that there is a difference between jealousy and envy. They state that envy is a feeling of sorrow when we find out that someone has what [we] lack. Jealousy occurs if another individual [c]ould take away from you something you have (usually an important person).

Envy, in the right doses, may be a powerful motivator, but jealousy is about fear of losing something we already have, specifically instead of enjoying it. And fear is the mind killer; what a terrible state of being to have something and not being able to enjoy it - to live in fear of losing what you already have. Death comes to us all, nothing lasts forever, and we know from "38 Special" that we should only 'hang on loosely' to things in this worldly life, enjoy what we can while we can.

Somehow this idea is caught up in my name, hopefully it can be a lesson and not a omen; and there is more. Admiral Ackbar has been a popular culture meme for longer than memes have had a name, and he famously declared that the Republican forces had walked into an Empire deception with the following phrase:

I watched a lot of the original three Star Wars movies as a kid, I had them on VHS tape - Return of the Jedi was my favorite, and it had this line in it, when they realized that all their carefully laid plans were just walking into a trap set by the Emperor. But, through sheer tenacity, they battled through the trap and won the day in the end. What drama!

A trap is a dramatic story telling piece that makes the hero's victory uncertain, and then sweeter once it comes to fruition. A trap is also a cliche, according to TVtropes. Its even more cliche when "The Trap is the Only Option":

Something funny happened I went back to university for a year, and I stayed once again in the dorms for a semester. I was talking with my roommate about something, and I said "I'm A Trapp/I'm a trap", and he looked at me funny. He explained to me that "a trap" meant some woman who was really a man in certain important parts. I suppose today, more than a decade later, society would call this a "pre-op trans woman".

Well that sure put a wrench in my cool name :(

Some of you may know that my EcoInstant name is based on my short webseries entitled "Ecological Instant", available on youtube (subscribe to my channel!). It spent 7 years in post-production hell but we managed to get it done, which is a relief to me. So more recently I have been going more by "Eco" with a long E, definitely not Echo.

And when I started talking about my intention to launch the EcoBank project, about how I would operate a hotel in the mountains of Colombia, @a1-shroom-spores made the mental connection and produced this wonderfully funny meme about me:

This was certainly a big help in deciding to avoid the world 'hostel', even though here, on the ground, rural tourism favors the world, anyone who has seen any of those movies (and now this poster) probably will not have positive connotations!

This is just some thinking about my name that I have done this morning - what about your name? Do you associate it with any songs, images, memes or tropes? Let me know below in the comments.
