Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Saturday Savers Club for 2023!

Saturday Savers Club is for anyone who wants to save in any currency for any purpose. The Club is a supportive group of people who meet up around the weekly post, usually on a Saturday but occasionally on a Sunday, to share tips and techniques and have some fun in the process.

Saving is a skill that takes time and practice to acquire and, like learning any skill, doesn't always go the way you planned. Saturday Savers Club provides a framework that you can use to help you on your way, as well as tips and a process to provide or support the skills you need to design and manage your own savings plan.

Here's what happened in the first year of Saturday Savers Club.

How It Works

It's always good to have a framework or a target when you start saving and we're going to use the 365 Penny A Day Challenge. This starts nice and easy, so slow you don't even notice, just day 1, put aside one penny, day 2 put aside two pennies, until day 365 when you save 365p and you end up with 66,795 pennies or 667.95 USD or GBP (or HIVE or HBD).

You can do the 365 Day Challenge with any unit of currency - pennies, cents, hive, bitcoin - whatever you have lying around and you can easily get your hands on. You can keep physical pennies in a jar, or save them in an account, maybe a credit union account, or save digital pennies in your hive wallet.

At the end of the post are some charts and spreadsheets you can use to track your progress. Just copy and save the one that works best for you. You can join the Club and start saving at any time of the year.

The Saturday Savers Club is going to use the weekly chart in the Resources section below. Each week, the equivalent amount is going to be put aside in the @sally-saver account and recorded in the weekly Saturday Savers Club post. This year we are going to be saving HIVE (day 1 = 0.01 HIVE, day 2 = 0.02 HIVE etc) to grow the account to Minnow status.

I did this for the first time in 2020. I was blasé about the first week: 'Ha! I laugh at your 3p!'

... and worried (needlessly) about the final week: 'Erm ... you're saying that'll be £21.75?'

Of course, by the time I made it to week 52 (and weeks 48, 49, 50 and 51) I had learned how to put those pennies together every day without affecting my budget or the way I lived. That's right, I learned how to save. Gradually, week by week, you learn how to find that little extra bit of money that is going to make a 670 HIVE difference by the end of the year.

There's a bonus, too, to learning how to save, which is that your attitude and your approach to money and your economic well-being will have changed. You'll be in a different place and have a different mindset.

Here is @justclickindiva's experience of following the 365 Challenge for a year.

You don't have to follow the Saturday Savers Club framework. Several regular Saturday Savers Club members designed their own savings plan and followed that through the year. Other members adapted the 365 Challenge to meet their circumstances. Just choose the plan that is right for you.

Have a Savings Goal

One of the biggest things that makes a difference to saving successfully is having a savings goal - for Saturday Savers Club, that's something you want to achieve by the end of 2023.

In 2022, @phoenixwren saved for a keyboard and @lauramica for a trip to a distant province.

Reasons to Save - Some Savings Goals

  • Become a Hive Minnow
  • Build an Emergency Fund
  • Clear Debt
  • Pay for Christmas (or other celebrations)
  • Have a Crypto portfolio or become a HIVE business owner

This year, the Saturday Savers Club will be saving HIVE to become a HIVE Minnow by the end of the Year. If you're a new or small account, save along with us and become a Minnow by the end of the year (or maybe you want to become a Dolphin or an Orca)?

EDS Tokens for Comments

Every week, everyone who comments will have the chance to win EDS tokens. EDS is a second-layer Hive Engine savings and income token. Each one costs 1 HIVE and pays a guaranteed 12% HIVE income every Monday. They are a great token for savers.

Golden Pig Tips

Through the year, the Saturday Saver Club has a whole programme of challenges, tips and techniques for building your savings including token giveaways, no-buy months and side-hustles. This year, these will start in Week 2 - Saturday 14 January 2023.

Well I'll keep buying both, also SPI, BRO, Index and a couple more but I'm not one of those people who can make a plan and stick to it! 😁 I need to take a closer look at what you are doing and what exactly I need to do to join you.

We're fairly relaxed 😁
Most of our savers start by not being able to plan (or not sticking to the plan).
Setting a few goals and checking in weekly with how you are doing seems to help.
You can write posts as well, if you want to (it brings in some extra rewards), but often just commenting is all that is needed.

Yup, that's me somehow. Not that I wouldn't be able to plan, but I almost never bother, maybe having this group around will incentivize me. Since I got on Hive, the one and only plan that I went through with was a PUM of $5 each day, which I managed to do on my second attempt. 😁

Hello. For Christmas, I received a super surprise: an updated Chromebook. Now my carry around needs have been met.

I'm back and eager to get started with my 2023 GOALS:

Yes, my daughters are the best. Given a choice of gifts put forth on my wish list, they decided which one to give as a surprise.

However, as in life, all is not free....so off to saving for my desktop. I hope to be able to keep up with the weekly savings chart and not have to restart mid year.:)

I'll get my 1st 2023 post up today. Then visit other members.

Next week will be hectic attending to my hubby in hospital.

I think this is an excellent idea, I saw it in a publication of my friend @soyunasantacruz and I thought it was fabulous.

Above all, it encourages us to look for ways to generate that income that we are going to save, when money in our pockets is not our forte.

Slowly but surely. I want to participate. What I don't understand is where are you going to be saving day by day?

I hope to be part of the club and start next week, as I understood.

It depends which currency you are saving:

  • HIVE - in your savings wallet or powered up as HP.
  • HBD - in your savings wallet.
  • H-E tokens - in your H-E wallet.
  • fiat - in cash or your current or checking account.

If you check @sally-saver's account, you'll see this week's savings in the wallet.

Hello thank you very much for replying.

Yesterday I made my contribution for this week in my HBD savings account.

But then I can save the Hive, to grow my account.

This seems to me an excellent idea. Because as there is a group that we are in this, for me it becomes a commitment that KO I plan to break with God's favor.

I understand that it is necessary to make a post, to notify that I am participating in this super initiative.

I want to do it through @leofinance but I don't know why I can't register.

Mmm, it's saving an extra penny a day - day 1 is one penny, day 2 is 2 pennies, and so on, up to day 365 which is 365 pennies.

You can use the daily or weekly chart with the exact amounts.

A New Year and I should have my goals post done by the end of the week.
Hope all had a great Christmas and a safe New Years, and now it is time to get back to work.

I am still buying tokens when folks sell for less than they are worth, seems that keeps me broke most of the time. Will be great in the long wrong

I started at the end of the year with saving inside hive, but in an unscrutinized way.
Now in 2023 my goal is to grow in HP, doing daily power ups of at least 1 hive and minimum 12 hives the first of the month for PUD.
In addition to that, I joined the challenge to win the 365 days of posting badge and with that, increase my HP considerably.
The next goal is to reach 1000 HP by the end of January.
Also, to keep saving 30 HBD for 4 more months (I am already in my second month) and to include the interest earnings in the next month's savings.

Hi, I think I've already commented on the previous post that I will be joining this year, but my posts with goals were not yet ready and now they are :)

My 2 primary goals are:

5565 HP and Dolphin badge post. HP will be stacked on @fantagira account

2023 LP and Newborn Cub post. LP will be stacked on @fantagira7 account

There will be some secondary goals too ;)
