Hello Everyone,

1. EDSMM Contest

Thank you everyone who took part in last week's challenge - lots of people had something to say about whether they were ready for the money!

My favourite comment of the week came from @tokutaro22, who said:

I don't think I'm ready to have a million dollars but I do know that I learn very quickly.

An EDS to @tokutaro22 for making me laugh 😍

Many thanks to @stdd for the brilliant post that inspired last week's challenge.
5 Hive coming @stdd's way 😍

As always check out last week's comments.

We had 19 comments we have a winner @coquicoin - hurrah! check your wallet (later)!

This week the challenge is inspired by a comment from @justclickindiva:

Power up my Hive account. I want to reach a position to help members who may truly be in need. Haven't figured out yet how to accomplish this. Any suggestions appreciated.

Let us know in the comments whether you know of any ways that Hive members in need of help can get it - or maybe you have some ideas about something that could be set up?

2. 365 Day Savings Challenge

It's Week 6 on our savings plan and we've added and powered up 2.73 HIVE to @sally-saver's wallet. We're up to 9.03 HIVE already!

EDS for Comments

We had comments from 26 savers! Everyone went into the Wheel of Names and we have winners: @noctury and @servelle - hurrah! check your wallets! 😍

As @hoosie says here:

we had around 20 links to savings posts shared last week which is pretty impressive. I certainly try my best to read, upvote, comment and tip them all - plus its a great opportunity to learn from each other. Its great to see the comments/links growing - and I think its beneficial to us all as a peer group - so please keep on sharing links and commenting !!!

3. Information and Resources

EDS and EDSM Queries

The quickest way to get any queries about payments resolved is to post a message in the #eddie-earner channel of the SPinvest discord: https://discord.gg/RQZubGeeTH and tag @silverstackeruk. Most problems that happen are technical bugs and are quickly resolved once we know about them. Housekeeping for @eddie-earner, EDS, EDSM and EDSMM is usually done on Monday UTC.

Saturday Savers Club Discord Chat

Join us for chat about savings and investments: https://discord.gg/RQZubGeeTH

Ground Rules:

  • The SPI family motto is Get Rich Slowly. This covers EDS, EDSM and EDSMM, the home tokens for the Saturday Savers Club, as well as SPI, LBI and CL. The bottom line is that we are looking for well-researched options which bring a steady income. Good options will have an identifiable and easily accessible team (with emphasis on more than one person involved), a clear plan and use case for the token, and transparency and accountability through regular reporting.
  • Individual members are free (of course they are) to publish guides to tokens under their own account - and any number of members can do that.

Thanks a lot for the EDS 😍
I think the best way to help users in need of more Hive power is to encourage them to make more posts while studying the ones that are most appreciated and focus on those.

Hello @servelle. Thanks so much for your suggestion. @shanibeer, @servelle's read on my objective to try to help Hive members who may be in distress due to offline situations is correct.

This is exactly what I've been doing these past three years at Hive, encouraging them to publish quality content as often as they can, and then rewarding them up to my voting power. I'm not a huge account, so I have to carefully distribute rewards to reach those I see putting forth effort. There are members who rely on their Hive account for daily survival.

But how does one know if the need is truly genuine? A person's word should be their truth.

Also, I visited your savings progress report. You're on track each week to accomplishing your 3 primary goals. Good luck.

Take care.

How's your week been?

Been better! Not much on Hive last week or this week, so numbers suffered this week and will suffer next week too!

Did you hit your savings target?

Ahead of the game in penny savings, due to starting in December!

Looking forward to lpud on the 15th..

One way to get help would be to make a post about the help needed and then let people in the discord channels know.

That's a great idea for Hive members to make a post about the help needed. I've seen plenty do that already. I help when I can if I come across a post and I feel the request looks genuine.

Thanks for your input.

I think making a detailed post about the need in the correct community, will help to raise high upvotes. I saw this already with posts about ukraine as well as about the earthquake in turkey. I tend also to 100% upvote suhch posts if the content is reasonable.

Congratulations to the winners, yay!

The week had been good and although the growth has been rather slow, it's still progress hehe.

Power up my Hive account. I want to reach a position to help members who may truly be in need. Haven't figured out yet how to accomplish this. Any suggestions appreciated.

This is a great initiative. But it's a bit confusing for me, I wonder if it is helping members thrive here on Hive or on other things outside of the blockchain...

Hi All, I had quite a good week, +90HP to 3991 HP - nearly breaking the 4K mark, plus some nice trades. Full report here:
https://leofinance.io/@hoosie/saturday-savers-club-progress-week-6-2023-11-02-23-hp-gains-getting-back-on-track

For the competition I have actually been thinking about two ideas around helping community members:
1 - Is about helping new members of SCC who are also new to have and have low RC/HP. Maybe a few of our members could offer some HP delegations for a month at a time to give newer members in those positions a helping hand. I'd be happy to offer one up.
2 - Hive common good fund. Maybe a fund could be setup on an account, with say a board to help manage it. It could take delegations and donations to help build it up. It would be invested so that it grows. When a needy cause comes along, applications could be made for help and or the board could decide to make a donation to a good cause. But the core idea would be that the fund continues to grow, so that it has the ability to help even more with greater donations over time.

Oh, and I dont know if you noticed the comment I put up on last weeks SSC post last night, but we had around 20 links to savings posts shared last week which is pretty impressive. I certainly try my best to read, upvote, comment and tip them all - plus its a great opportunity to learn from each other. Its great to see the comments/links growing - and I think its beneficial to us all as a peer group - so please keep on sharing links and commenting !!!
And last but not least, a reminder that we have LPUD coming up on wed the 15th - and best of luck to all for the coming week - keep on stacking !!! Cheers @hoosie

It doesn't now. What do you think of the model?

I just read a few more of their posts, and I would say, thats just the thing - they seemed t have it pretty sorted out - its just a shame that it didnt continue. I wonder if its was just one person running it - which would be a lot of work, hence the option of having a board could give something like this more longevity. Even then, I dont doubt how much work would be involved, including keeping very close control and accounting of funds in order to provide transparency and accountability. It wouldnt be easy.

It was run by one person, there was some sort of split when Hive forked from Steem. I'm not sure what happened.

One of the benefits of blockchain is that everything is transparent: you can see all the transactions, who has received what etc.

As I remember, it was fairly straightforward: donors and delegators signed up and regular payments went to selected "good works". There was some work around researching and choosing who or what to support, and some discussions among the delegators. But otherwise, it was fairly straightforward. I think there were about eight groups receiving funds.

Happy Saturday everyone !

Here's my weekly update; https://leofinance.io/@alonicus/saturday-savers-2023-progress-report-week-6

On the topic of helping Hivers in need, I believe that's actually a really tough one with quite a bit of hidden complexity. I'll start with a couple of questions which would need to be asked;

  1. What do they need ? Is if money (crypto or fiat), or practical help (e.g. humanitarian aid after a disaster), or emotional help (e.g. due to some life trauma like a death in the family, illness, divorce etc.)
  2. What timescale is the help needed on ? An ongoing health or financial issue needs a steady response over a potentially extended timescale, while an earthquake or volcano needs a response that's primarily urgent humanitarian aid. This is complicated by the nature of Hive, which tends to be a slow compounding build-up.
  3. How do we verify the person and the need ? I'm sorry if this sounds cynical, it's not meant to be. But I'm aware that if people think there's a pot of free money, there's always someone who will take advantage. I believe Hive actually has a significant advantage over legacy social media platforms here, because if someone has a validated account, a good reputation score, and we can see regular posts that tell us a bit about them, it tells us they've been around for a while and are very likely a "real" person.

As for how we can help, I can think of a few ways, although some of them would need proposals and development work.

  • At an individual level, we could just send HIVE or HBD. That's no different to sending cash.
  • We can also delegate HP, but the issue with this is that it assumes the recipient is able to be active on Hive to make the most of it, and it generally generates relatively small amounts that compound over time.
  • Just being there for someone to talk to or get advice can make a difference in some cases. I'm really torn on whether Hive should have a DM capability; on the one hand it enables personal contact without the whole world seeing it (useful if you wanted to give someone a mobile number or address), but on the other hand, it creates all kinds of potential for misuse and abuse.
  • At a higher level, and we're now getting into areas which would need new development, Hive could have a centralised emergency delegation pool. It risks creating all kinds of complexity in terms of determining how it's used etc, but an outline would be something like Hivers delegate to the pool (in the same way we can delegate to Tribe tokens etc). In an emergency situation, that pool could be delegated onward. It might be a large enough delegation that the recipient could temporarily earn enough to live for a little while, or even be set up that the earnings could be used to buy humanitarian aid - which means among other things a big push to persuade merchants to accept HBD in exchange for blankets, food, tents, etc.
  • Another option which would need development would be to be able to delegate HBD. The delegator would keep the HBD, but the interest would be split 50/50. Again, some effort would be needed to make it easier to convert HBD earnings into fiat, but in some parts of the world, the interest on 1000 HBD could be just enough to provide meals for someone for a month.

I'm sure there are other options; we already know Hivers are a selfless and generous bunch, it's just a case of ensuring that generosity isn't abused, and creating mechanisms to deliver enough help in ways that are useful. Also, a balance of not straying too far from our core purpose as a social media/gaming/crypto place, while also recognising what a huge PR and recruitment tool this kind of thing could be.

Aaaand... I've written another essay.....🤪

Let us know in the comments whether you know of any ways that Hive members in need of help can get it - or maybe you have some ideas about something that could be set up?

That's the Hive problem, eh? New users who just need support we have a number of curation projects around Hive. None of them are perfect and it can be difficult to be noticed by them even if one does write really good posts, but they are there and they are trying to help.

As individuals I guess the may way we can help is power-up ourselves so we can offer a higher upvote. We can also share a posts or try to direct attention to a post or we can reply to a post offering advice.

I don't think there is a surefire way to help, but all of those small things can add up.

Helping other hivers, I think there are many ways, I think the first time they helped me was when I entered here, a group of hivers with more experience guided me on how to make my blog something original, respecting the rules and giving me ideas to have a good content.

From there, being constant in my publications and supporting others who also do it.

As for helping them financially, there should be a publication in between asking for help, so that its veracity can be verified and if it is in our hands, to offer a helping hand.

On the other hand, I leave you my publication, with my advances of this week.

Thanks for the notice about Ragnarock, I got enough for 1 NFT and I think that is pretty cool!

There already exist good ways to help people on Hive. I think the most straightforward are the Basic Income tokens. They already exist to support people and their mechanism of upvoting also supports the best way of people gaining help on Hive...posting.

I think the second best way of helping people is letting them know about and how to participate in the many, many giveaways on Hive (like this post haha). Of course, anyone can participate, even big wallets, so it is not exact.

But, why don't we combine these excellent methods more often? A giveaway could be hosted with a nice amount of HSBI or SBI on the line. The requirements could be to have a good reputation 30+ or whatever, and, to get people in the habit of posting, it could be required to comment with a link to a post people might write making the case for why basic income would help and how they would plan to make the most of it (i.e., posting more or whatever). Thus, the posts entries themselves could be curated and up-voted. And they could be judged according to tne need that the giveaway sponsor sees. One win per Hive name, and I think this would be a really big boost to help someone start posting, learn about giveaways, get basic income tokens, and maybe gain some followers as well.

What do you think?

Hey, guys!

Thanks for the Hive! 🙌

About the help: I actually recently wondered the same thing myself. After reading all the comments, I realized that there are options, and lots of them. To be honest, I would like to find a special or unusual option. Perhaps so that it would cover a small niche of Hive users.

Hopefully by the end of next week, some of these replies under the post will give me an interesting idea)

Only problem with setting up something to help folks out is finding folks that really need the help. Foe example we were helping one person out in the states that said they need help getting glasses, pay the power build and a few other things. We found out later his income was well into the six figures he never really needed help at all. Till this day he still cries poor. So how to do it I am at a loss.

As for my week I have had a good week buying tokens when they are on for a good price not as many as last week but still a good number.

I am getting there with my main 2 goals of Hive and HBD as well.

That is about it for me for the week.

Have a great week all.

Yeah, there will always be cheaters, @ericburgoyne, an annoying part of life. But for me paying it forward is always a good approach and will always win out in the end 😍.

Great progress with your goals!

Hello @eddie-earner @sally-saver @shanibeer

This week I surpassed 50,000 JAHM tokens.

Congratulations to all the token recipients. I like the responses to the challenge as well.

@justclickindiva sense of humanity is always admirable.

Have a great week everyone.

I agree with most that it's difficult to determine who is really in need

Hi, there!! Thank you very much 😊

One idea to help those in need is to look for organizations that need help and make initiatives like @combination. Because one of the biggest difficulties in this type of action is to ensure that the help really goes to those who need it.

As for achievements, last week was slow for me because I wasn't so active posting. This week I don't think it can be much different. But I'm almost ready to participate in Leofinance's LPUD.

Have a wonderful week 🤗

Yep, Combination is a good option:)
LPUD went great. I did power up my two accounts:) And I've read in the threads this morning the whole event was a great success in the number of participants.

Congrats!! to @tokutaro22 & @coquicoin.

It doesn't surprise me that @justclickindiva wants to help. After all, she helped me through tips and suggestions of things I could do on Hive to help me grow. And I must say that her ideas were great & helped me along. She spent a good amount of time with me through discord and she still checks in with me from time to time.
My first thought was helping those on hive but as I read through the comments here, I see this is referencing helping those off hive. I have no ideas of my own but read some really good ideas here. My concern would be, like some have said, how to verify that the person truly is in need of help.

I don't think that contributing to already existing organizations is a good idea because a lot of them often use the funds to do things like pay staff & others (overhead), and very little end up in the hands of those who actually need help.

Whatever is decided, (if & when) I'm willing to be a part of it as I like helping others in any way that I can,

Sorry. Coming in late but I am not aware of any organisation within hive that can do so. Maybe can set aside some kind of a reserve fund (like a movement where people contribute a fix amount of hive per month) and let those whom need to fill up a means test survey to assess their situation for them to have access to those fund.

From there guide these people whom need to save up by posting in Hive to slowly gather and put back what they were being given.
