Now then - this week's winners!

Every week, you have the chance to win EDS tokens for commenting. Last week we had comments from @ericburgoyne @bearmol @justclickindiva @jfang003, @phoenixwren, @missaj, @metzli, @preparedwombat, @bashadow, @carmenm20 and @fabianar25.

Okay, everyone who commented last week went into the WheelofNames and we have two winners: @bashadow and @missaj - check your wallets winners - yay!

- Congratulations!

Thank you for taking part in Saturday Savers Club, everyone!

What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 24%.

631 EDS Miner tokens left.

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

saturday_savers_club.jpg

Image by Andy M. from Pixabay Hey Chicken, it's getting cooler, nearly time for pot pie! 😁

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Penny a Day Tracker Sheet

saturday_saver_club.png

Right click on the image, save it to your computer and then print it out.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 28 August, was 16.59p. Next week, we'll be saving 17.08p and by Saturday we'll have saved 305.05p (that's 30,505p just compounding a penny a day)! 😁.

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 15.59p buys 29.20 Hive.
814 Hive saved in 33 weeks (714 Hive powered up, the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM)! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 24% on EDS tokens and a little on curating and posting!

@susie-saver has powered this week's savings; she's also been voting following a curation trail. She's reached her first milestones of 530HP and Minnow status. Her next goal is 1,000HP.

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).
  • share this post if you think your followers might be interested.

2. The Golden Pig Tip

saturday savers club.jpg

Image by 3D Animation Production Company from Pixabay

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

This week's Golden Pig Tip:

Have a NO-BUY month!

The NO-BUY month will run from 1st until 30th September. You set your own rules about what you are allowed to buy or not buy during the month. Here's @susie-saver's rules for September:

  • ALLOWED EXPENSES
Food - but aiming to finish up packets, tins and jars in the pantry, food in the freezer and from the garden.
    Essential toiletries and housekeeping replacements.
    Essential repairs or replacements.
1 eat-in or takeaway each week, including coffee/going to the pub.
2 theatre performances or films during the month.
    Adult education classes/workshops.
    Postage and/or carriage.
    Travel or fuel.

  • NO-NO-BUY
    No shop-bought non-essential treats.
No books, stationary, yarn, fabric or notions.
No "new" (ie not replacements) clothes.
No "new" (ie not replacements) furniture, household items, telecoms.
No seeds or plants or houseplants or cut flowers.

This is definitely going to be a make do or do without month, plus home-made birthday cards (there's about ten birthdays in September)! Goal: save 10% of normal monthly expenses.

Two planned expenses are a pair of winter boots and, possibly, a Hive meet-up. Savings have already been put aside for these earlier in the year, so they won't come from September's monthly expenses.

NO-BUY Challenge

Are you going to join the NO-BUY month? What are your rules going to be? How much are you aiming to save during September? Let us know in the comments!

And today is always a good day to start saving - you can start on Day 1 or make up the first thirty-five weeks (or join the Autumn Challenge) to catch up with @susie-saver.

That's it for this week. Hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next Saturday with progress so far and our next Golden Pig tip.

@eddie-earner content contributed by @silverstackeruk and @shanibeer.
Today's post by @shanibeer writing as @susie-saver.

EDS, @eddie-earner's income token, is part of the SPinvest family including SPI (@spinvest), LBI (@lbi-token) and the @spinvest-leo account - a cool club in the making. Spinvest Family Motto: Get Rich Slowly.

Hello @ericburgoyne. So sorry to hear about the hospital. Hope all is well and that September's hospital stay brings healing.

I thought I made it in time for the cublife buy-in for August, but I missed it. I'll have additional time to gather more contributions.

Take care.

Thank you she is getting better slow and steady. One of the few things I got done on time this month was the Club Life buy in. Already started saving for next months buy in. Have a great week

I am thinking of catching up to date on the challenge from the start so it makes it easier for me. At least I think it's better since I will be storing the entire amount. Do you know which day we are currently on? I plan on moving the specific amount into my HBD savings to get my more interest on the 1st of the month.

Thank you and the lucky name wheel.
For September I will not buy any newly issued tokens and will concentrate on improving my current crop of dividend coins, like SPI, LBI, BroCoin, ARCHONM, and maybe even shoot for one more EDSM, (I was able to get one for August, so that plan is still on rack).

Sounds like a good portfolio. I don't know much about ARCHON - how does that work? Be great if you can get another EDSM 🙂.
Are you taking part in HPUD this week?

Archon Miners when they first came out were pretty expensive, (or so I thought at 10-30 Hive), there is a whole community around archon, along with the dividend type thing you can earn hive I really do not understand how it works very well, but I had at one time 7 miners, and sold 3 when I needed some hive, made a pretty good profit on them, but buying back is real expensive compared to the 10-30 hive range I initially bought at. The miners are still pretty expensive but have come down in price a little bit.

I kind of see the BRO token possibly doing the same, which is why it is one of my try to build ones along with the EDSM tokens.

I'm not sure if I will be taking part in HPUD this month or not, most likely I will at the 10 Hive level, I only missed the first month, unfortunately I will not be able to sponsor anyone this month again since I just do not have the Hive available. To many Hive-Engine tokens I want to buy lately, but I will be abstaining from acquiring any new issue in September.

That's interesting, thank you. What's the focus of the Community? Does it have a theme like Leofinance?

You're right, there are so many options for spending your hive!

0

avatar

Archon is a general-use community; it originally, however, was upfundme, which was a very specific crowdfunding community (like how I did my first aid kit), and I was sad to see that focus end. I liked being able to upvote everyone's projects and goals. But it wasn't heavily used, which I suppose is why they stopped.

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@ecoinstats/archon-tribe-on-the-launching-pad-low-supply-community-led-here-s-everything-we-know-so-far

What will ARCHON tribe's focus be?
While the official tags to be used by the tribe haven't been announced, already discussions have begun within the currently small community about what tags and types of content we would want to support. With that said, tribe founder @taskmanager has confirmed that the general purpose vibe should continue.

I don't follow that close what happens, I do follow the other three accounts so I know when I need to make a governance vote. I also follow the community page - https://peakd.com/c/hive-177956/created

I get a daily small reward and sometimes some Archon rewards. They do a 50/50 thing where part is auto powered up for you the rest liquid, so you get to save and spend at the same time.

great plans, also like utopis and index a lot. Utopis because it has really good hive divs and brings fiat money into hive. And Index because it has a lot of good tokens in it much like brocoin.

Always good to get some edsm and increase the EDS for long term, it's kind of semi auto compounding. Really good!

I am really enjoying the benefits of these fund type tokens, they do all the work and research and I reap some rewards. I have only recently seen talk about utopis and I do have a micro amount, (0.25), and am in the process of deciding if it is one I want to have. My goal is for 12 fund tokens by the end of the year, I am getting close to that amount. I think INDEX might be a real sleeper, I am really liking its rewards.

0

Yeah index is really cool, the website is very transparent on the holdings and I like how they're one of the biggest holders of dec (the Splinterlands in-game currency). Utopis went up quite a bit in price but it's been helping me building other holdings as the weekly divs get pretty good

SPI was the first Fund type token I ran across, and I am glad that a few other people have picked up on his idea and are expanding on it. I know a lot of people are excited about defi, smt's, diesel pools and other things, there is a lot to keep up with for crypto savvy people, for the people like myself, not so savvy, these dividend type funds make a lot of sense. I imagine a few more fund type tokens will try to be built and I do try to see them, but there are so so many, utopis was under my radar, along with seed, and likely a few others. I will get to the 12 holder tokens I want just as the SPI guy will get to his one a day (7) dividend tokens.

Being one of the earliest SPI may end up being the Berkshire Hathaway fund token of the crypto world.

Might be quite a stretch but if Hive breaks through to the masses, and it does have that potential, that might be close to the truth. Don't have a lot of SPI myself but I get a bit of div every week.

Cub life also helps a lot to build a bit of leo stake without getting involved in cub finance yourself and makes a weekly post on the holdings and results. I did get involved last week when I wanted to do something with all the dec I'm holding for the splinterlands airdrop. But for anyone not savvy enough (which I wasn't for some time!) or just not feel like figuring it all out it's a real good option :-)

Hello @bashadow. Congrats. Not buying any newly issued Tokens is a good choice. Sometimes adding onto your current token balance may bring you better dividends.

I plan to increase my delegations to bring in more passive income.

As long as you have a plan, then you can see where and on what you are saving and investing.

Take care.

Lol. That can only happen if you don't have to worry about money. The NO-BUY challenge is not that much of a challenge for me, because I usually only buy food and really necessary things. But that, of course, has everything to do with my situation.

That's funny, that's what Mr P says, too 😂

It's a good habit, even if originally it is borne from necessity, to keep buying things to the essentials - a lot easier to save when things change and good for the environment. I think you're good with crypto stuff? I've enjoyed some of your posts for lbi-token. How's that going?

0

avatar

I've not done bad with crypto stuff, but because I didn't have any fiat to invest in crypto, it was hard to build something. As everyone, I also made some bad decisions, or needed to withdraw crypto to make ends meet in real life. Over all, my balance in crypto has grown in this past year ... and I'm still writing for LBI 3 posts a week. LBI is doing good in terms of growth. And that will give me a pretty penny too in the end. But that will need a few years to grow. 😁

Congratulations to this week's winners @bashadow and @missaj.

I'm thinking about how I can consume 3000ml of water daily in the Wednesday wellbeing club. Surprisingly after only a few days I realized I don't usually consume so much water even though I drink other things.

I'm now at 620HP working towards 1000HP by the end of the year.

Have a great weekend Saturday Savers.

If you are interested, here is a post about what I did this past week.

Hello @bearmol, how's things?
Where did you get the 3000ml water from? I've seen 2000ml before (6-8 eight glasses), but I thought you must have seen 3000ml somewhere. I think all your drinks, if they are water-based (not milk or soda) count towards your total as well straight water. I drink a lot of tea - black, green and fruit teas for my water consumption.
620HP sounds good. Are you going to take part in HPUD this week?
I'll come back to your post, thanks for linking it 😍

Hello @shanibeer I think there is an 8 glasses a day rule floating around however my reading suggests the 8 glasses is just a guide. I think the 2000ml is generally accepted for women but the recommendation for men is a little more.

That being said the amount of water we need will vary depending on several factors including our weight, the fluid content in our food, for women whether they are pregnant or breastfeeding, the amount of physical activity you do daily etc.

Of course you are correct when you said that the 2000ml or 3000ml in my case includes all liquid intake. Generally 20% of that is already in the food we eat every day.

Are you going to take part in HPUD this week?

Unfortunately I won’t be taking part in HPUD this week as I have no Hive to powerup.lol

Hello @bearmol. Yes, drinking more water helps release water retention and other unwanted fluids.

I'm happy to hear you're at 620 HP. Inching closer to that 1K. I was hoping that you'd see the smaller goal of 1K looked more attainable.

I've bookmarked your Club post and will visit soon.

Congrats to the Wheel of Names winners!
I have just completed my first week report for the 365 Day Challenge and am also up to 65 EDS tokens, so chugging along here! :)
I'm not doing a "no buy month" since I pretty much live that way anyway due to poverty. Pre-pandemic I'd go to the movies about once a year if someone took me out for my birthday, or I might get something from a restaurant once every couple of months, getting a sandwich whilst out running errands or ordering pizza. That being allowable multiple-times-per-month spend is luxury to me, so on the rare occasion I can treat myself in some way I'm not going to put an arbitrary date on it. For my birthday present to myself, I bought myself a sweater. :) My next treat goal is a book!
On the flipside, if I can manage it I do like to get flowers for my main altar, which happens probably once per month. Right now I have carnations. :)

Hello @phoenixwren. Awesome you completed your first report for the 365 Day Challenge. I'll go visit.

I understand about not entering the no-buy month if you're already at bare minimum. The pandemic forced people to cut back or either do without this past 2 years. It's amazing though that once you, you sometimes find that you really didn't need those items as much as you thought you did. My item was PAPER TOWELS. I didn't realize how much wasteful I was using them all day, every day.

Take care. I hope you're able to purchase the book you'd like on discount.

Have a good start to your week.

I'm with you. I keep paper towels around, but I really only use them for "icky" cleaning, like cat barf and stuff like that. XD So it takes me a couple of months to get through a roll now. But years ago, I used to use a lot of those disinfecting wipes. Now I never use them; if I want to disinfect something I'll just spray cleaner on a towel (paper or cloth, depending on what it is).

Hello @chrisparis. Our state has a state-wide back-to-school, tax-free weekend each year in August. Parents love to save up and get everything school related. The state added numerous other items that now qualify for the tax break.

It's the best time to shop, especially for purchasing winter items before the price increase.

Take care.

I am gearing up for my no spend September.

I am working on my budget its mostly set but I am making minor tweaks here and there.

Hello @carmenm20. Sorry to hear you are having difficulties again with your internet. How awesome that you are on track with your savings. Remember, no matter how small, every penny counts.

Especially for a rainy day when you really need extra funds.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi @justclickindiva the internet service is very bad, and the rains have made the connection worse. But here I go really wanting to move on.

My savings are increasing and that makes me very happy. The rains have caused many difficulties, not only the internet but also the lack of water, the water service has already been resolved in my house, Much of the state has been without water for more than 15 days, which is very unfortunate.

This week I met the goal for my fourth week of saving.
My pig is starting to fill up and that's great.

Fantastic! so pleased you were able to get here eventually 😍.

Hello @eddie-earner and @shanibeer. Hope you had a good last week. I'm running a bit behind from Saturday. Here's my Saturday Savers Club progress report for Week 34:

Congratulations to @missaj and @bashadow for winning in the Wheel of Names.

September NO-BUY. I've already signed up and posted my no-buy items last week. I'll do my best to stick with it. 30 days is not so long.

Take care everyone.
