Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Saturday Savers Club with Susie-Saver!

SPI Giveaway for September NO-BUY Month

Every week during our September NO-BUY month we are going to have an SPI giveaway!

Last week, the SPI giveaway was for your tips for what to do with your time instead of shopping. We have two great winners: @justclickindiva and @riandeuk Yay! Check your Wallets!

Shop your closets and pantry was @justclickindiva's tip: remind yourself what you have and collect what you don't need to give-away to others who do need it.

There was a list from @riandeuk with ideas for alternatives to going shopping: enjoying nature with a walk or a hike, playing sports and gaming, enjoying board games with friends and building something or DIY.

Both @riandeuk and @metzli talked about how saving or enjoying the time they saved by not shopping through sticking with known makes and models, budgeting and planning and using delivery thresholds to manage their spending; and @metzli talked about enjoying her home and a less stressful life-style.

Check the comments and links in last week's post for all the great ideas.

So this is the last week of our September NO-BUY Month. This week, let us have your comments about how the no-buy month has been for you:

  • what worked and what didn't, how would you change things another time.
  • any new ideas you picked up that you're going to keep doing.
  • any interesting things you learned.

If you want to, you can let us know how much you saved through the NO-BUY approach - maybe as a percentage of your monthly expenses (there's an example in this post). Feel free to make your own post and link it in the comments below.

October Side-Gig Month - LBI Giveaway!

Everyone likes to have a little side hustle, don't they? Something you enjoy doing and you make a little money? Next month, we're going to be exploring all the little side gigs we can do to help boost our savings. So start gathering your ideas for next month's giveaways!

Thank you for taking part in Saturday Savers Club, everyone!

What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 23%.

618 EDS Miner tokens left (also some bargains at less than 10 Hive).

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

saturday_savers_club.jpg

Image by Andy M. from Pixabay Hey Chicken, nearly time for pot pie! 😁

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Penny a Day Tracker Sheet

Right click on the image, save it to your computer and then print it out.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 25 September, was 18.55p. Next week, we'll be saving 19.04p and by Saturday we'll have saved 378.27p (that's 37,827p just compounding a penny a day)! 😁.

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 18.55p buys 29.87 Hive.
945 Hive saved in 39 weeks (815 Hive powered up, 30 Hive waiting for Hive Power Up Day and the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM)! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 20% on EDSM, 23% on EDS tokens and a little on curating and posting!

@susie-saver will be powering up this week's savings on 1 October as part of Hive Power Up Day; she's also been voting following a curation trail. She's reached her first milestones of 530HP and Minnow status. Her next goal is 1,000HP. She's already at 815HP - what's your prediction for when she will reach 1,000HP? Tell us in the comments!

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).
  • share this post if you think your followers might be interested.

2. The Golden Pig Tip

saturday savers club.jpg

Image by 3D Animation Production Company from Pixabay

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

This week's Golden Pig Tip for September NO-BUY month:

Look after your investments: EDS income tokens are a great way to build a little nest egg that provides you with a Hive income every week. Did you know you can help to grow that income in three easy ways:

  • Vote for @eddie-earner posts - all rewards on posts are powered up to grow the EDS fund and increase the Hive income that is given out every week. All H-E token rewards are converted to Hive and powered up - it's the magic of compounding combined with a virtuous circle combined with time! Never miss a post by setting up an autovote with Hive.Vote.
  • Carry a little notice about Saturday Savers Club and EDS in your signature at the bottom of every post (See below for sample text and check the bottom of @shanibeer's posts for an example).
  • Write your own post now and then about the Saturday Savers Club and EDS and why you are involved or talk about it in your monthly Hive Power Up Day post.

SAMPLE NOTICE TEXT
< sup > I save with the Saturday Savers Club on the @eddie-earner account. Enjoy savings tips and the chance to win EDS income tokens. EDS tokens provide guaranteed 12% Hive income every Monday (income currently 23%). EDS tokens and EDS Miners are available through Hive-Engine. < /sup >

Remove gaps in the formatting for the notice to look like this:
I save with the Saturday Savers Club on the @eddie-earner account. Enjoy savings tips and the chance to win EDS income tokens every week. EDS tokens provide guaranteed 12% Hive income every Monday. EDS and EDS Miners are available through Hive-Engine.

What ideas do you have for growing the Saturday Savers Club and the EDS income token fund? Let us know in the comments.

And today is always a good day to start saving - you can start on Day 1 or make up the first thirty-nine weeks (or join the Autumn Challenge) to catch up with @susie-saver.

That's it for this week. Hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next Saturday with progress so far and our next Golden Pig tip.

Today I reached 700HP working towards 1000HP by year end.

Get it!

I remember my very first goal - I wanted to have 60 STEEM Power - it seemed so out of reach. Now I'm a double dolphin - getting ready to double down on my writing and reach ORCA - here I come :)

Wow again. Thanks @metzli I appreciate the LUV and encouragement.
I’m nowhere near dolphin but I think that once I’m surrounded by people who are there I’ll eventually get there as well.
All the best on reaching Orcha. My votes don’t value much now but I’ll continue supporting your posts as well.

700HP - you're doing great! That is a wonderful achievement, so pleased to see it 😍. Lovely to see your goals for the rest of the year, I reckon you'll be an Orca in no time (took me about three years 😂).
I love the new progress report, great way to increase your rewards and spread the word about the Saturday Savers Club.
Looking good!

You can work it out using a compound interest calculator. This is based on your Hive earnings in the past thirty days and doesn't include earnings from EDS or any Hive-Engine tokens. Interest is 3.08% and is taken from information in the Hive wallet:

Lovely. Thanks @shanibeer. That’s a pretty useful tool. Does it assume the same monthly deposit amount or can the deposit amount be increased in small increments overtime?

The example I've done assumes the same amount as you earned in the last thirty days. You could make a guess about the percentage increase over, say, a year, and add that to the inflation percentage increase (3.08%) and see what you get 😁

Yeah it’s Saturday. Congratulations to every for striving to achieve your goals. No buy September went well this week. I did one fast food but but it was requested and wasn’t for my self only. I also reduced my spending significantly on entertainment. I now need to find the cheap supermarket and reduce the cost of essentials. The fight to save goes in steadily. Peace and love .

Hello @missaj. I understand about the fast food. I utilized my 1 dine out this week. It was so, so good. My largest reduction in expenditures was in the entertainment sector.

You completed your No-buy month nicely. Congratulations.

Thanks for the EDS token. My month was fairly busy so I would have to say the no-buy month didn't go so well for me. I ended up caving in to getting some fast food since I didn't feel like cooking when I was tired.

Hello @eddie-earner and @shanibeer. Here is my Week 39 Saturday Savers Club progress report:

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/week-39-last-week-of-september-and-moving-right-along-together-with-week-7-of-the-autumn-savings-challenge-or-saturday-savers-cl

Hope everyone had a good week. I've been reading some of the members' posts and find some really good tips and ideas on how their savings are progressing. For me, it's slow and steady each week.

I like the new Golden Pig Tips to look after your savings and investments in the Saturday Savers Club. @shanibeer, you make a valid point in tending to your investments if you want them to grow. I like the 3 easy ways to do it.

  1. I always vote and re-hive the Saturday Savers' post.
  2. I just prepared a new footer banner of my own to advertise the Club.
  3. I have published in different Communities to help spread the word.

Week 3: No-Guy. Congratultions to @riandeuk who won with me in the SPI giveaway for our tips for what to do with your time instead of shopping.

Also, congratulations to @jfang003 and @phoenixwren for winning in the EDS Wheel of Names.

Autumn Challenge. Transferred 3.71 Hive/HBD to their respective Savings. Taking advantage of that 10% interest in HBD with now 178.814 HBD in savings.

September No-Buy Month. Hope all members participate in Week 4 and post about your experience during the month. I'd love to read how your discipline went.

What ideas do you have for growing the Saturday Savers Club and the EDS income token fund?

  • It would be great if we had a standard Club banner for all to use;
  • All members try to publish in their favorite Communities, then branch out to others
  • Include EDS / EDSM information in each Club members publish.
  • Having a 1 DAY SALE maybe each week on a certain amount of Tokens and advertise it. Don't know the back-end workings on how this would affect the overall strategy of the Token and whether this is doable.
  • Share EDS and/or EDSM with your friends or other Hive members and explain why you are sharing and the benefits of ownership.

I see @susie-saver is just moving right along in her savings and investment strategies. Congratulations. Also, it's almost time for the October, HivePUD, so get ready everyone.

I met all my goals this week. I entered an contest and forgot to add beneficiaries. So, I took the opportunity to share some EDS Tokens with them.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Take care, and stay safe.

I have done good at not FOMO'ing over new tokens, so no new purchase of new tokens so far, one week to go. I have reached my EDSM goal of of 10 EDSM tokens, My Ape collection is going good at 8 CPU's so far so two more to go on that. My cublife and LBI goals of 150 each came to fruition this last week, and SPI move slightly towards it's goal of 150 also. Three remaining goals, SPI to 150, ARCHONM to 5, and two more Ape Tokens to reach 10 CPU's. Slow progress on all fronts, but progress none the less.

Some days it is not easy, I get pretty frustrated with Splinterlands, but it is one of the tools I am using to fund my token buys.

My no-buy month was a win, but only because it made me aware of how many habits I have been changing.

Every time I move, I change my shopping patterns and it was apparent that mine needed some attention.

It’s easy to overspend when you ate not paying attention and I am paying attention again.

Great challenge, I look forward to October. It’s always more fun to earn more than it is to spend less…

That sounds like a win! I find the same, when you stop and take a look, there's stuff that can change! I also liked how changing your shopping habits freed your time a little to enjoy your home. It must feel great to have made so much progress.
I'm looking forward to October Side-Gig, too, it will be fun 😍

Thank you for the EDS! :) I bought a couple more too and now I am up to 80 out of my goal of 100 EDS tokens. Here's my report for this week on my 365 Day Savings Challenge: https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@phoenixwren/365-day-savings-challenge-week-5

And congrats to the other winners! :)

It's been an interesting week here. There was a fire in the brush outside my apartment windows, and the fire department said it was from a cigarette butt that somebody tossed that probably was sitting there for over a day smouldering before it finally actually became flames. So be sure to deal with your cigarettes safely, folks. Keep an old mint tin in your pocket, stub it out there, and carry it in the tin until you get someplace appropriate to responsibly toss it. Don't throw it in the bushes! Sincerely, wildfire country

Haha wasn't actually trying to not spend anything in September but there was a moment I watched my bank account. All it showed was 2 transfers for subscriptions that are paypal only so not automated on the "fixed costs" account and one each week for the fish market.

In a way you could say that part actually falls under groceries, so I guess I got the no spending part down. Gotta remember to enjoy life too though! (Not that I did not do that by the way, like I said I was surprised to see it)

Haha - a no-buy month by accident? 😂 I guess you could say that's the best way!
I agree, there has to be a balance between saving for the future and living for today. I guess the no-buy month is a chance to have a look at what is going on and to make any adjustments if you want to.

My no-buys were all about casual shopping (when you wander around a shop with nothing in particular in mind and end up with things in your basket), using up what I already had (and I still have lots in the pantry) and changing habits that saved money but didn't affect my quality of life (like turning off things on stand-by). I still had a budget of allowable expenses for eating out, seeing friends, going to the theatre - all important things!
Thank you for joining us 😍.
