Saturday Savers Club with @susie-saver | Week 48 - Saturday 26 November 2022 | EDSMM Giveaway | Win EDS for Comments - everyone welcome

happy saturday.png

Hello Everyone,

Hey! You all saw the announcement this week that another 12,500 EDSMM have been issued?

Yes - by popular demand! We're in the festival period for parts of the world, where rituals include gift-giving. An EDSMM is the perfect gift for Hive friends (I know, I would say that, but it is 😁). Spread some love over the next few weeks by sending an EDSMM to someone (HBSI are also a great gift, especially for new and smaller accounts).

How's your week been Savers? 😍

There will be a new distribution token for EDS in a few months time, so you may want to start stacking small amounts of HIVE savings in preparation for that.

Saturday Savers Club is going to be giving away EDSMMs from now until the end of the year. These are sponsored by @shanibeer. Each For your chance to win, take part in each of the contests as they come up in the Saturday Savers Post.

EDSMM Contests

Last week, the challenge was about investing in precious metals as a form of saving. Lots of great information in the comments to last week's post. I liked the one about precious metals forming 5% of your savings and investments.

We had comments from seventeen people and everyone who took part gets an HSBI share. The memo has been sent so look out for a new HSBI share in your wallets.

For new holders of HSBI, you'll find them under the "OTHERS" tab in your wallet.

Our winner this week is: @the13anarchist - yay! check your wallet!

Remember this idea, to upvote each other's savings posts (I would add to make sure you upvote the Saturday Savers Club post, too) and leave a little comment, that's always motivating!

THIS WEEK'S CONTEST

Okay, for this week's contest, we're going to think a little about risk, which has been mentioned several times in the comments when when we talking about savings or where to invest. One of the things that has been said about minimising risk is about knowing where you are investing and the governance or management of your savings or investments.

Hive is governed by the witnesses, so the challenge this week is all about witnesses. Do you vote for witnesses - yes or no and why? How do you choose who to vote for? What do you think about the idea of decentralised governance? (Also tell us if you are completely mystified by any of these questions 😁).

Here's two interesting posts about governance on Hive:
What is "decentralization" worth? by @sorin.cristescu
How to use your witness votes the most effectively and why you have been doing it wrong by @pharesim

All comments in the challenge get a chance to win an EDSMM and an HSBI.

The small print: What do you think about a savings quiz for the end of the year? Prizes, of course 😉

Saturday Savers Club Discord Chat

Ground Rules:

  • The SPI family motto is Get Rich Slowly. This covers EDS, EDSM and EDSMM, the home tokens for the Saturday Savers Club, as well as SPI, LBI and CL. The bottom line is that we are looking for well-researched options which bring a steady income. Good options will have an identifiable and easily accessible team (with emphasis on more than one person involved), a clear plan and use case for the token, and transparency and accountability through regular reporting.
  • Individual members are free (of course they are) to publish guides to tokens under their own account - and any number of members can do that.

LARYNX and RAGNAROK - Have You Claimed Your Airdrops?

EDS and EDSM Queries

The quickest way to get any queries about payments resolved is to post a message in the #eddie-earner channel of the SPinvest discord: https://discord.gg/RQZubGeeTH and tag @silverstackeruk. Most problems that happen are technical bugs and are quickly resolved once we know about them. Housekeeping for @eddie-earner, EDS, EDSM and EDSMM is usually done on Monday UTC.

365 Day Savings Challenge

It's Week 48 on our savings plan and we've added and powered up 22.89 HIVE to @susie-savers wallet - we're up to 546.15 - yay! a dolphin! - HIVE already plus curation rewards! Watch these numbers grow as we come into the home stretch!🤑

EDS for Comments

We had comments from eighteen savers! Everyone went into the Wheel of Names and we have two winners: @tokutaro22 and @mypathtofire - hurrah! check your wallet 😍

Savings Goals

We've added some more savings goals and savings posts to the table. Leave a comment below with a link if you've done a savings post or settled on your savings goals for this year - it can take a while to decide your aims, so take your time and let us know when you're ready 😍

Hi, Many thanks for the HSBI - its appreciated !!! And I was quite pleased to see the release of the new chunk of EDSMMs, so bought some more, and will be aiming to buy some more tonight.

I do vote for witnesses, as I think its important to support them. In terms of choosing who, thats more difficult for me to answer. Some I just followed the crowd, whereas others I know via their posting, and if they seem like good guys - then I vote ! Also, you do get some minor HIVE payouts for witness voting, so thats another reason to do it !

My own savings went well this week. I added +85 HP, so am now sitting at 2621, with an eye set on 3000 for the end of the year. My full report can be found here:

Many thanks again, and I hope everyone had a great savings week !!!!! cheers @hoosie

Okay we will star at the top.

Yes I do vote for witnesses, I start with the ones I know and trust, after that I do my research and decide who to support. I vote because if you do not you get what you voted for or did not vote for.

I have spent the week buying under priced tokens that I feel will go up in price. I have been picking up some EDS tokens and trying not to overspend this week.

I hope all Americans around the world are having a great Thanksgiving weekend.

That is all I have been doing this week.

Have a great week one and all

we're up to 546.15 - yay! a dolphin! -

Minnow! LOL. It's red fish/plankton, then minnow, then dolphin at around 5000HP. Then orca, then whale. I thought maybe you had just typoed a number so I checked Susie's wallet.
People skip over red fish and refer to newbie accounts as minnows, but minnow is the second level! Ergo the 10k minnows initiative.

(You may know all that and that was just a brain fart, but I know we have some new accounts in SSC so I thought I would explain)

I vote for witnesses, like everything else, manually. I actually want to figure out how to make witness votes automatically follow another account so that I can make my alt account follow my main, but as it is I don't know how so I set them up manually too.

I don't have a method per se, but I think about things like, are they active? Do I see them posting? Are they building things or running an app or something? Are they a dbag or a fool? LOL

I'll vote for someone who isn't building apps if they're active in the community, or someone who runs an app but doesn't post much, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Sometimes I switch it up if someone misses a bunch of blocks, or someone new starts running a node I want to support, or if I find out someone is a jerk. 😂 But I check it every now and then.

Hiya Saturday Savers!

I continue to publish My Monday Weekly Hive Goals and Progress Updates, the last of which can be found here. I need to update my end-of-year goals soon.

I've proxied my witness votes to @ura-soul for quite some time now, as his focus in voting for witnesses been free speech and non-censorship, which is very important for me. I've been feeling lately that I should remove the proxy and start voting for myself, as I have a far better perspective and lay of the land than I did when I chose him as my proxy. I want to get myself more deeply involved in the governance on Hive, as this is my beloved digital home, and I want it to thrive and grow, so me taking more responsibility in voting is an important step I'd say. 😁🙏💚✨🤙

I originally did it via PeakD, by going to an account's interaction menu (the four dots), and then advanced interactions. The easiest way, however, is to do it via Hive Keychain (I use the Android app) by going to the Governance section, and the Proxy tab. The proxy can be set there.

Here's @ura-soul's original post on this topic, which convinced me to use him as a proxy. 😁🙏💚✨🤙

Here's my savings post for this week... https://leofinance.io/@alonicus/saturdaysavers-club-progress-week-20-48

The whole risk / witnesses thing is something I've been thinking about quite a bit recently. I do vote for witnesses, although I haven't used all my votes up by any means. I tend to vote for ones who I think are doing good things for Hive. But it's pretty unstructured; mostly it's if someone asks for a vote, then I'll go and look at what they're up to and if I think it's worthwhile.

I think the witness system is good, but does still have some weaknesses. The pool of 20 active witnesses produce plenty of great proposals for the community to vote one, but what we don't see is whether there are back-channel conversations going on between them, or much of an idea of how well they co-ordinate and co-operate. I have to admit I'm split on this one; if the active witnesses are co-ordinating well it creates resilience in the event of technical issues, but if they are co-ordinating too well it could create a dominating clique.

I haven't studied how stable the 20 active witnesses are in terms of changes, but I suspect it's a pretty stable group. Most Hivers tend to vote for a witness and just leave it there. Again, this could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how it goes.

From the perspective of drawing people over from Web2 to Web3, the lack of a figurehead in the mould of a Dorsey, Musk or Zuckerberg takes some getting used to. It's probably a barrier to adoption, but once you get used to the idea, it's actually a good way to illustrate how decentralisation works to "outsiders". There isn't one dominant ego, so although the way it's run can sometimes feel a bit "woolly" and reaction to an emergency might be a bit slower, there also isn't the risk that one person could run away with all the money or commit some social faux-pas that endangers the ecosystem.

Aaaand I've written an essay... sorry !

There used to be a witness ramble in Discord where you could hear conversation between witnesses and, I think, post questions. I wonder if @shadowspub could let us know if that still happens?

@steevc publishes a list of Brit witnesses in his monthly post about UK accounts.

What do you think about @pharesim's ideas in the second post?

Interesting that you brought that up. The Witness Chats haven't happened since the HF from the legacy chain. The subject of witnesses and their role has come up a few times late in conversations. Seems maybe it's time to shine some light there.

There are far more than 20 active witnesses. You can vote for some of the lower ranked ones to help them out. My votes are based on what I see them doing for Hive.

avatar

The 20 Witnesses you refer to as 'active' are the top 20 who form the governance on the chain. There are many more active witnesses, you just need to look down the list to sew who is running the current version.

I have encountered a few people who think the chain ONLY has 20 'validators' aka witnesses and they thought that made for instability. It wasn't until I pointed out no, those are governance witnesses with dozens morning running witness servers that they got it.

Cheers @steevc and @shadowspub - I'm learning lots, and conversations like this are a great way for me to find out where the gaps are in my knowledge and to pick up information from people who know far more than I do. I really appreciate it !

Here is my savings post for the past week.

I vote for witnesses but I tend to vote mainly when prompted to.

I think maybe you voted for a proposal? There are sometimes requests in the comments to support this or that proposal.

I'm not sure which front end you use, but in PeakD, if you use the drop down menu under your account name, you'll see "witnesses"; click through and it will take you to the list of witnesses.

You can choose who you want to vote for from the very long list. You have up to 30 votes, but I don't use all of mine.

If it is all a bit much, you can set a proxy which means that your votes will follow the votes of the account that you set as proxy. This must be someone you trust 😁.

Congratulations to the winners. The truth is that the issue of witnesses is something that I do not understand very well. I think I vote some but very few. I have to investigate it more because I don't understand what I win, what they win and what the chain in general wins. Other things I don't understand are the proposals. How long does it take to get it approved? I also don't understand account creation tokens. How much RC is needed? It is consumed and you lose it? Where does the token go? The truth is that there are many things in Hive that confuse me.
Here is my post for the week. Follow my commitment to the HP and I will participate in the last ignition of the year to give a push.

I think a lot of things are quite confusing 🙂

Very simply, the witnesses ensure the blockchain works properly. The top twenty witnesses - the ones who have the most Hive Power voting for them - decide changes to the blockchain, like hard forks (it is more complicated than that, but that is the simple explanation).

But there are many, many other witnesses who all help to keep the blockchain secure and working properly.

Proposals are approved when there is a certain threshold of Hive Power voting for it. That is why we sometimes get prompts in the comments asking us to vote for this or that proposal.

When you want to claim an account creation token, it will tell you how many you can claim for the amount of RC you have available. When you claim a token it is available in your wallet, and the RC will slowly rebuild.

Hope that helps 😍.

Here's to the last few weeks of this year and our goals! 😍

My savings post from the last wee:
https://ecency.com/hive-167922/@steemmillionaire/saturday-saver-s-club-route-to-savings-of-200-hive-per-week-3pdqxy

My position on voting for witnesses is not very smart, as I ignored this. When F. Sun tried to take over the community using fraudulent votes I realized for the first time the importance of voting and monitoring the activities of your witness> At that time I configured a proxy for my vote as the situation was very dynamic, and to be honest, I did not had a look since then...

I have vote witness for a few projects, basically because they were from the community that I'm a big part of. I don't really understand the whole witness thing but knows that it helps the project. It's hard to chose because they only allow you 30 votes. And of course these questions mysitfy me.

I think decentralized governance is the future, it's pretty clear that centralization doesn't work. I vote for some witnesses, more than anything, there are those projects that I find interesting but it is not something that I pay too much attention to, although I should.
This week was a little better than the previous ones and I got 30 HP, I hope I can continue to grow. Here I leave my weekly report.

Thank you for the HSBI and the EDSMM! (which also was staked) 😊

Here's a little update on my savings goals!

  • Today marks day 31 on my 365 challenge, and I'm still going strong on that savings goal!
  • I placed 1 HBD into savings during the month of November, and am going to transfer 1 HBD to savings today as well, which I'll be up to 7.65 HBD in Savings!
  • I took part in my first Power Up Day since joining Hive, and I Powered Up the minimum of 10 Hive to earn the badge! 😊 New goal for next year - participate in every Hive PUD for 2023, with the minimum 10 Hive to earn the badge!

As to this week's EDSMM contest questions:

To be honest, I've only voted for 2 witnesses so far throughout my hive journey, @hivebuzz and @hextech. I made these two witness votes fairly early, before I even fully understood what witnesses are.

Since then, I haven't really given much thought about "who" to vote for, since I don't really know "why" I want to vote for them yet either. (Although, I may give one of my votes to @peakd because I do primarily use, and not to mention I love, this platform!

But I will definitely be checking out those posts by @sorin.cristescu and @pharesim so I can get a better understanding! All in all, I don't want to be willy nilly with my witness votes, and I want to support those that support the growth and development of Hive in a positive way!

Also, while I do understand the concept and certain aspects regarding decentralized governance, I'm still "young" enough in my Hive journey that I'm still a little mystified by it all 🤣

Yes I do vote for witnesses. We have limited votes, so need to know what are the witnesses whom are truly doing good for the hive ecosystem to vote for.
