Hello Everyone,

Thank you to everyone who has done a savings post so far - great to have you with us. Please check the chart to make sure I have it right 😁 and let me know in the comments if I've missed a savings post.

Now then, time to get serious with our savings. Yes, it's that time again, a NO-BUY Month πŸ€‘. I'm planning it for March so we have a week or two to get ready and decide how we are going to play the NO-BUY Month this time around. For newcomers, last year's NO-BUY Month was one of the most successful and popular activities we did. This year, we're going to have TWO no-buy months - March and another one later in the year.

March 2022 NO-BUY Month - SPI Giveaway!

A NO-BUY Month is when you make a pledge about what you are going to spend (essentials like food, housing, transport, childcare etc) and what you are not going to buy. You might say you are not going to buy take-outs or go to the corner shop for a pint of milk and buy lots of other things you didn't need. You might choose not to buy any more make-up/sports gear/books or beer. Or you might choose to take sandwiches or walk or cycle to work. Just for one month! 😍

The idea is to take a look at what we are spending and whether there is anywhere we can find some extra savings. Last year, one person saved lots by changing how they bought groceries. They ordered online instead of going to the store and kept to the minimum order for delivery. Anything they couldn't get this week went on to the list for next week.

This week we are going to start thinking about:

  • the list of essential items
  • our budget for discretionary spending - like gifts, education and going out.
  • items we are definitely not going to buy in March.

Leave your ideas in the comments below.

365 Day Savings Challenge

It's Week 7 on our savings plan and we've added 2.80 Hive to @susie-savings wallet - we're up to 9.46 Hive already. Next week will see us in double digits! πŸ€‘

EDS for Comments

We had comments from @justclickindiva, @tokutaro22, @yeckingo1, @jfang003, @missaj, @ericburgoyne, @bearmol, @alexvan, @benthomaswwd, @deeanndmathews and @carlynn. Everyone went into the WheelofNames and we have two winners: @justclickindiva and @yeckingo1 - hurrah! check your wallets.

Savings Goals

We've added some more savings goals and savings posts to the table. Leave a comment below with a link if you've done a savings post or settled on your savings goals for this year - it can take a while to decide your aims, so take your time and let us know when you're ready 😍

PS check that I have your goals correctly in the table or if I've missed you

Remember for success - Start Small, Start Today

It can be any day, and it can be any day when you've had a break and want to start again.

  • the best way to build wealth is to save small amounts regularly.

If you know anyone else who is interested in saving, please do tell them about the Saturday Savers Club, we love meeting people, sharing ideas and supporting each other. You'll find all the FAQs in this post and all the information about last year's progress in this post. Write a post to tell your friends and followers about us and drop a link in the comments below!

Time flies past sometimes!
I'm just started planting for my garden this year. Potatoes are chitting, should be ready to plant in four-six weeks. I'm growing them in pots this year, and just harvest a pot when I'm ready to eat them. Also ordered six strawberry plants this year! 😍

Yes, the week did fly by. Now we're in mid month. I'm almost at 10 Hive/HBD saved already. I plan to add extra HIVE/HBD by 3rd quarter end.

Happy to hear your savings plan going smoothly. I bought a few EDS Miners and other tokens since 1st of year. I want to at least see some reasonable progress by end of next month.

Take care.

Hello @eddie-earner and @shanibeer. It's been an exciting week with lots going on offline for me with a couple projects trying to get completed.

Here is my Week 7 progress report:

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/week-7-celebrating-valetines-day-with-new-savings-and-investments-or-2022-saturday-savers-club

I see the Club has a new project for March for No-Buy. Of course, I'm in.

Thanks so much for the prize for winning in the Wheel of Names. Also congrats to @yeckingo1. Wait, didn't we win last week too. We're on a roll if so. Fun all around.

Also, I appreciate you adding back in my goal of saving Hive as well. I transferred both 2.80 Hive and HBD to savings. My balance is really piling up quicker than last year. I like the accelerated pace and hope I can continue to publish quality articles so that I can earn decent rewards.

Take care everyone and have a good start to your week.

Hello @carlynn. Yes, I'm shocked. Usually I'm not lucky in drawings. But I did predict that 2022 was gonna be my best year so far!

Thanks for your support. Good luck with your savings.

Take care.

Yes, can't wait for the No-Buy Month again. This time, I'm gonna switch up and add some interesting item and eliminate some routine. Still working on hubby to reduce monthly ice cream...wish me luck!

Thanks for your excellent ideas to get us going this quarter.

Take care.

Congratulations to the winners. I decided to put 300 HBD into my saving outside of the Monthly add to earn some extra interest while I wait for opportunities.

Hello @jfang003. That's a great idea. I did the same last year which bumped me up over 500 HBD savings. Got some nice interest. I think I'll add extra each quarter.

Thanks for sharing. Take care.

O wow that's really nice, I'm also building my HBD savings but am only at 25-ish. Always get distracted by interesting stuff but I do save all the rewards coming in so that should build up over time!

Grats on making the call to put it in now :-)

I love the no spend idea.

I’m going to cut out eating out in March. I will only eat out in March if I get to go on a date with my wife. No lunches during work. I’ll pack lunch each day.

I’ve been thinking about how much this would save me. Cool ide. I’ll think of other stuff to cut out too.

Hello @dkid14. It will save you a lot. Last year, I participated 2 months, and the savings were huge once I realized I was spending $400+/month on take out.

You have already listed your items you want to cut back on or delete for a month. Take a look at how I structured my September No-Buy Month.

Good luck with your participation. Take care, and have a good rest of your week.

Thanks @shanibeer. I have a question for you. Are Monday payouts still being done for EDS, SPI, UTOPIS etc?

EDS and UTOPIS pay out on Monday.
SPI pays out on Sunday.
Do you have a query?

Hi @shanibeer,
I’m not seeing a hive payout for UTOPIS for this week. I'm also looking into rebuilding my collection of SPIs and EDS.

Looks like the payment was delayed this week. I've received a payout now.
If you have a query on any token, check the "i" button for information for who to contact.
SPIs and EDS are available for sale on Hive-Engine and the other exchanges 😍.
There's quite a few EDS for under 1 Hive at present.

Congrats to the winners, thanks for the mention a no buy month hey.
OK well i would make much more savings if i could stop buying taxes but that may become problematic to stop and the government will argue it is essential.
So i guess no takeaways it is then LOL
@eddie-earner
Have a blessed day:)

Hello @benthomaswwd. That would be something if we could pull it off with the government, wouldn't it? Until then, we'll just have to think of another unique ideas!

I'll be publishing my intention to participate in a couple days listing my no-buy items.

Take care.

Hey there @justclickindiva
Yeah that would be great, we would all be better off in no time, when you count up all the tax we pay through out each day it soon adds up.
Certainly in the UK it would be better.
But like you say until then we will have to work it out.
I gave up smoking tobacco just before the holidays so i feel this whole year is a no buy items ha ha.
Plus i will get to live longer and got rid of that tax so plus plus :)
Hey look at that dreams do come true LOL

Y'all are rocking it with this. I've still been in rather a bog so I haven't been doing much blogging at all, let alone figuring out how to structure a savings plan when I'm struggling to pay rent, lol. One of these days my brain will wake up for longer than a day, I hope. ;)
Congrats to everyone already kicking ass, though!

Hello @phoenixwren. Hope you'll able to see some light soon. Would the blogging rewards help any or little time for it right now? I understand.

Aww thank you for the tip! They would help, it's just a matter of brain fog. I can't think my way out of a paper bag most of the time lately. πŸ˜…

So thanks to the EDSM sale I was able to hit the 50 EDSM set as my secondary goal for this year and am impressed by the amount of EDS they've been minting (noticed there was another post on these EDS tokens gonna read that in a bit).

As for my splinterlands main goal am well on track, big part because of affiliate earnings, been scooping up cheap cards with credits a lot and it helps. That and renting out and playing of course :-)

Haven't really done a savings post but I do have an update including collection value and burn value each season on my blog so that might be interesting to include!

Hi @justclickindiva, sorry late reply as I caught the rona and was ill for a good week. Really happy with the EDSM they've been working really well. Can't wait to see what that will bring in a few years and plan on adding to it frequently.

Guess I was lucky to surpass you but I'm sure you'll get there to, everyone has their own tempo and journey :-)

Hello. First, so sorry to hear you caught covid. I hope you're doing better now. I've heard of lingering aftereffects in some cases.

Yes, I'm inching closer each week to my goal. I've so many this year, I have to work on one each week.

You're doing great with your EDSM. Keep looking ahead. I read @eddie-earner's recent EDS Report #7 and see nice plans for the future. I hope to be in a good position when the times comes.

Thanks so much for stopping. It's never too late to engage. Take care, and try to stay safe. Have a good day.

Thanks for your kind words, feeling much better but trying to be mindful of any after effects and not jump back into doing everything 100% again right now.

Just now read you were under the weather too for a bit, hope you're ok again too :-)

Gonna check out the latest updates from eddie-earner now, curious what the new ideas are! What goal will you be working on coming week?

Hahaha if I had to think about saving on something it would be on WALKS. But I'm not talking about long trips, that's not up for discussion. I mean the little nights-out for dinner and drinks. Sometimes I do them too often, I have a lot of friends... Maybe devise a plan to see them in some cheaper outing and outdoors taking advantage of the summer... I think that could be a good goal πŸ˜….

Uh-huh, I know what you mean 😍.
Sometimes, with friends, we'd have a little contest - take it in turns to provide a meal but under a set amount (this was a long time ago, so we'd set Β£6 for a three course meal for four). Picnics are good, and bring and share suppers. We used to do that at work, too, for lunch.

Oh that's a good idea, I like it: set a price and cook dinner in shifts. It would be a good way to save πŸ’›.

March sounds fun as a no buy month.
We will try to buy only essentials, replenish some of the stock at home. Beside this, we stick to investments, as this is the plan.
