RE: Tesla Is Going To Force The Government To Bail Out The Auto Industry
You are viewing a single comment's thread:
People keep trying to tell me that Tesla only turns a profit from carbon credits (government subsidies). Is this still the case or just old news?

Some truth is in that.
I think it's still partially true. From what I know, it's because they are using their profits to subsidize some of their unprofitable area such as their solar industry. If it's just cars, I think they are profitable but they have too many projects going on so more cash is being thrown around all the places.

I think they actually eked out a profit from services and energy last quarter.
But the automotive makes up the bulk of the revenue (85%).

Old news.
Last quarter, they had $350 million in regulatory credits with a income of $1.3 billion. Even without that, their income was near $1 billion.
Of course, carbon credits are not paid by the governments, they are paid by the other automakers directly to Tesla.
No taxpayer money is involved.

Ah I was thinking that might be the case.
Thanks for the update.
