Storytime!

David has been afraid of fireworks for a few years now as he got older and more aware of his surroundings. The noise from the fireworks scared him to panic!

2020 was marked with a bad start (oh boy that was really a bad omen) with him screaming and wanting to run away from the rooftop where we use to watch the fireworks and that year I watched them on TV while trying to calm him down. I think I did the same for 2021 and stayed inside with him away from the noise.

2022 decided to put him to bed earlier and he passed the New Year sleeping, which is not a bad thing, I would do the same lol

This passage with David was even more aware of everything I went for a different approach. Took a lot of time and patience but it was worth it!

I spent the entire night until midnight with a lot of patience, conversations sitting down on the floor with him explaining that it's ok to be afraid but if he tried for a moment to have the courage to watch he would understand the beauty that he was missing, and also a bit of his mother's imagination ;)

We played outside with a variety of toys so when a noise of a firework would come out (people buy a lot to party at home, especially during this time so there is a LOT of noise) we could laugh or keep playing so he could get used to it. The bigger ones he would run away but we could watch him from the window so he could see the lights.

The family was very supportive and would try to help me and David.

Some mothers will judge me at this point by using Smarties and the "candy of courage" for him to be strong when the big fireworks would come out, but at this point, I don't care!

What matters is that he got the courage to stay on the rooftop with me and the rest of the family and he was really happy to watch them!

Half way of the show he said "Thank you Mommy for the party you prepared for me"

I'll take it! I put on a show just for you my love 😂🥰💙

The New Year here on the island is very important and very well-known in the world, so as an islander as he is, it would be a shame to miss it!

Patience and imagination are very important tools for parenting and I'm happy that I helped him surpass his fear!

I still have a long way to go but for now, I'll savour this moment for the rest of the year!
