Yesterday we got a new family member ... he is a Rosel parrot and one of the medium-sized parrots and here is her photo.

HOMELAND

Roselles live in Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. They are found in areas of tree savannas, in dry grasslands with sparse forests, in cultivated fields where there are water sources, and near smaller towns.

Their voice is loud, but they are not good speakers. They imitate whistles and various melodies.

What do we need to know as guardians of the Rosella parrot about its anatomical and physiological features?

Roselles are among the most luxurious parrots in color and are therefore highly desirable for breeders and lovers.

The tail is strong, wide and stepped, which is why they are also called Australian flat-tailed parrots.

The head, neck and upper chest are red, the lower chest and abdomen are yellow-green. On the nape and part of the wing, the feathers are black with a yellow border. The cover feathers are blue on the outside, while the tail feathers are pale green and turn blue in the final part.

The legs are gray. They have a dark brown iris. They measure between 30 and 33 cm, weigh between 100 and 120g. They are great fliers. They have 4 toes on each foot, typical of birds sitting on a branch. The legs are used as feeding arms.

The pair is the same color. The female has only a slightly smaller head, and a narrower beak root. It is also colored less intensely. In addition to the classic colors, we also know red, blue, yellow, white, lute and albino specimens of Rozel.

Gender on the basis of appearance can be determined only at the age of 9 months, when the feathers are finally colored.

With proper care, they can live to be 30 years old and older.
