My Market Friday

Hello hivers, it's good to be here, am writing about my day in the market not far from home and it's trekkable.

My sister said she needed some sandals for resumption, the one she has at home are worn-out, she teaches and school resumes fully on Tuesday, and want me to come with her so she can get a fine one in the market.

We set out around 10am,we went to the small market here in Ilogbo, Ogun State, moving from shops to shops for prizes that would be affordable; things are actually expensive, trying to convince the sellers to reduce the price was impossible, they complained of getting it at higher prices too so it's difficult for them to reduce it.

Eventually, we got to an elderly woman selling sandals, she was nicer than the previous ones 😁, my sister tried wearing some and decided to pick the black sandal which was her perfect size 42.

I was observing too, but I didn't budget for any shoe, she noticed and said I can pick any of my choice. I saw a simple brown slippers that I liked she told me to pick it and luckily for me it's my perfect size 41, I like slippers because it's more comfortable for me, I rarely get injured with it but with sandals the buckle sometimes hurts my legs .

At the male segment she picked a brown dunlop slippers with black layers underneath for her husband, size 45 ,she said it's washable, so she bought this prior his birthday, since he has been wearing stuffs like that I believe he will love it.

It's time to discuss the prices of our goods, the black sandal is #3,000, the slippers is #2,500 while the dunlop slippers is #3,000 making it a total of #8,500. She paid and we left while going home she was discussing the prices with me again I kept wondering too.

Are things these expensive everywhere??or am I the one having the feeling??

Trading stores along the roadside one always expects to be cheaper than walk in stores, sadly all have raised prices.

Exactly. The reverse is the case now and I wonder why.

Problem is everyone wants something, very few are prepared to share.

That's true. If those that have much are willing to give to those that have less, it will be balanced

World will always have those with a lot and those with little, I must be honest in saying those who don't have much appear to smile and be a lot more happier living off the land.

Yeah. That's contentment. Having little and still be happy, it takes the grace of God. How is your day going over there??

Yes. Things are really expensive. I talked for like 30 minutes to end up buying a decent pair of slippers for #4,500.

Hello! Hello! I am running late! Sorry!

What lovely shoes you and your sister both got! I really like your slippers! The little jewel decoration makes it look like happy shoes! Hers ar dressy and will look really nice with her outfits for school.

There is no such thing as cheap anymore, is there? It is so disappointing to see how much prices have gone up, especially on clothing- but the food is also unbelievable! One day, we are not going to be able to eat. Whoever thought we would have to choose between eating and clothing ourselves?

I would love to say that it is not the case, but there is nowhere cheap anymore, except sometimes in Indonesia. I think everyone is paying more to buy their merchandise and they are passing on the expense to us. You are definitely not alone, sadly. Thank you for sharing your experience! I had a great time perusing your post!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

It's good to hear from you again @dswigle, am relieved here is not the only place being affected with the price hike. I know with time we are going to scale through it, for now we just have to make do with what we get according to their priority.

The footwears are beautiful, the black one your sister picked caught my eyes 😂. I like black colors. The prices are also okay.

I like slippers because it's more comfortable for me, I rarely get injured with it but with sandals the buckle sometimes hurts my legs .
I experience this too and it discourages me from wearing sandals.
