Cow Grazing In The City of Lafia, Nasarawa State Nigeria
Hello everyone, I hope you are having a great day. I want to briefly share about my experience as regards cattle grazing in Lafia, Nasarawa state.
I was been posted to serve as a corp member in the state, I took out some time to study the nature of the northerners and how they carry out their business especially cattle rearing.
I love to have some cows someday that’s why I picked it as an area of interest.
One of the thrilling businesses in the north here in Nigeria is cattle rearing. The cost of a cow goes for $1000 at the moment of writing this content. It has been one of the businesses that make most northerners wealthy.
Almost every day of our life events keeps been on the increase weddings, occasions and the likes. Such event needs preparation and plans been made for food including meat as well.
The herdsmen here in Lafia, Nasarawa State are understandable and human enough to allow their cattle graze in the bush far away from farm lands. They are very cautious of the fact that cattle must not feed on people’s crops.
I used to hear of the fact that herdsmen in some places allows their cattle to graze on people farm land, in a bid to respond to such they eventually retaliate probably by killing the person.
But here the herdsmen are usually not that though because in real sense people planted food crops in order to obtain what to eat after the planting season then why should you allow your cattle feed on those crop when there are bushes every where containing food for your animals.
The only disadvantage as regards cattle grazing in Lafia is that when they commence movement on the road, there used to be a bit of traffic until they are done passing.
Though when you get to complain to the header, they usually issue out some sounds which makes the animal to wait or adjust from the road where vehicles can safely move.
One of the characteristics I found funny with the herdsmen is the way they treat cows that are a bit stubborn by beating the hell in a rage out of them. Some uses sticks for cows that go astray away from instruction.
The cows usually have a representative or a leader amongst themselves that leads the way for others to follow and they know their usual direction to the path where they can get pasture for feeding.
The only way to control them to stop is going ahead of them then you stop, any that keeps moving will be beaten then the others will understand it’s time to stop.
But one thing funny about this animals is that they never get tired or satisfied of eating. Right from their abode, eating starts till when they are back to their abode.
Even in their abode, there is also provision for food for them which they feed from. So they don’t get tired of eating.
