A little RC, perhaps?

avatar

The other day, while I was doing some voting on the STEMGeeks tribe, I came across a scenario I wasn't expecting. Ah, I ran out of RC!

As you can see, it is the voting account I use for the tribe. For most of us who have alts for tribes, we seldom had to worry before. Granted, at the time, I only had 16HP staked on the account. For years, that proved to be sufficient. With the recent influx of new accounts and rising prices, that amount of HP no longer seems to satisfy.

Of course, that account does a bit more voting than your typical alt as it does various weighted voting. Because of that, it transacts more than a tribe alt that drops a static weight on everything.

Lucky for me, it is easy to remedy this issue by powering up and staking more HIVE on the account. After about another 10HP, the account is now stable at around 30-50% RC. If I want to avoid the same situation completely, I may add a bit more HP. After all, everyone gets 20% of their RC refilled every 24 hours.

Bigger accounts don't usually experience RC problems. They most likely never pay attention to them at all. It's not very noticeable unless you are one of the people that claim account creation tokens.

For a long time, I was able to claim 6-8 tokens at 100% RC... since I've had over 15K HP. So, while my account continued to grow, it wasn't enough to surpass the relative cost of claiming one token. Now, I'm lucky if I could claim 3.

It's a good thing! That means there are more activities here on the chain. In order to perform transactions on the chain, people will need more HIVE staked. It's basic necessity. While I don't expect the need for RC alone will drive the prices, it does provide support as it's a basic necessity.

         Hooray for utility!

@poshtoken has been fighting to run out of RC for a month or so now, even though it's earning some HP daily + I've been increasing my delegation a bit every now and then. Been interesting.

Just wondering, has the amount of voting been constant or has the cost of a vote been going up?

I haven't checked.

But, the RC cost is dynamic. I wouldn't be surprised if it has gone up recently.

These are the types of issues we pray for. I mean, these issues proves we are growing. More users, more activities as you’ve stated. Haha

Damn, not good news for new users who "only" gets 10hp delegated, if the cost goes up!

This seems like a good time to ask…how do you get HP? I still have yet to find a market in the US that will sell me Hive coin or any of its derivatives!

Bittrex and Blocktrades are probably your best bet for getting HIVE in the US.

Here’s a more detailed list:

https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/hive#markets

There are some smaller exchanges like @ionomy or @cryptex24 that also trade them.

Thanks! I’ll investigate these today. Wish I’d found the community like a week or two ago before it broke out LOL!

Hey, just a follow up - I dug into this a little further and was able to trade some of my coveted Doge coin for Hive. Officially created my first community…now I’m just trying to figure out how to find it so I can start building.

Thanks again for your feedback!

Looks like you created several. Do you have the keys?

Yeah! I copied and pasted the hive-xxxxxx numbers and keys for all, but haven’t been able to figure out the rest!

Login to your Community Owner account @hive-xxxxxx (replacing the 'XXXXXX' with your actual community number) and the corresponding Posting Key. Then go to your community page:

https://www.ecency.com/created/hive-xxxxxx (replacing the 'XXXXXX' with your actual community number)

(I see you are using the Ecency interface, so the followig instructions are for Ecency.)

Once you're in, look in the left sidebar and scroll to the bottom. "Edit Settings" will allow you to change the Description of the community, add your desired Rules, add a Community avatar pic, and so forth. If you are prompted to enter a higher-authority Key at any point, such as Active Key, do so to authorize the change. "Edit Roles" will allow you to add a trusted person or two to help you Moderate the community. TIP: If you make your personal account @albuslucimus an Admin, you won't have to keep logging-in to the Community Owner account all the time when you want to do things! GOOD LUCK with your community!

Hey! Sorry to trouble you - I have a question if you’d be willing to help. I had 6 HIVE earlier, and tried to start a new community this evening. Every time I tired it said it failed, so I deleted the copied hive-xxxxxx code and password, tried again, and got the same result. But now my liquid hive is at 0, so I’m guessing one of those attempts (or maybe two?) worked.

I have no idea how to search the blockchain like you did before. Side question: If I did somehow create a community, it would have most likely been in my first two attempts. Since I was overwriting my keys after each failure, does this mean I permanently lost access to my new group (assuming it was created)?

Thanks!

It shows you created two communities. I hope you didn't completely obliterate any trace of those accounts' keys.

Lol - yeah I think one is gone for good. Fortunately I guess I’ll still have one…if IMO understand correctly, there is no way to replace the key I overwrote, so that’s just a dead account now?

Did you change the keys or simply lost it?

Either way, if you don't have it, it's lost.

Hahaha!! Ok yeah that sucker’s gone. When I hit ok to make the group, I got an error message, so I erased the group ID and key to avoid confusion before trying again. In the future I guess even with an error message I’ll check the chain explorer before erasing keys

I must admit I was a little shocked when I saw you had an RC problem, as long as you've been here! But it makes sense once I read the whole post! 😂

On a much smaller tribe alt, yeah.

But yeah, I have seen people with 1-2K HP running into issues because they went hard into some games on Hive.
