From Nostalgia to Nostalgia

avatar

The monthly DCA into precious metals continues. I had the opportunity to grab this batch when APMEX offered 20%+ off on premiums. I have seen items that had 40% off on the website. Overall, I saved around $50 on premiums this time.

The regular bars were modest this time. It did feel pretty good to pay $20 less than usual for a gram of gold.

I have been eyeing this 4-oz piece with the Lord's Prayer engraved on it for a while. It was not available for purchase for a long time. When I noticed I could buy one, I rushed to put it in my cart.

I've always wondered about those authentication certificates. Do people take them seriously? Or, is it something for aesthetics? I do appreciate the nice box, though.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, this is from Matthew 6:9-13. It was the model in which Christ taught his disciples to pray. And it goes as follows in the King James Version of the New Testament:

9 ... Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

My grandparents used to say this before dinner every night back when I used to live with them. They were technically Protestant Christians, with a Chinese twist. Of course, they didn't say the Lord's Prayer in English.

Part of the appeal of this piece was the nostalgia. The Chinese translation of the Bible, as far as I know, is translated from German. I say that because the names are often transliterations of German pronunciation. From a practical standpoint, it would have been easier had I gotten four separate 1-oz bars. However, this is for sentimental value.

The endless journey of accumulation continues.

Very cool, although I’m not a fan of Apmex. I actually call them Rapex. They have done me wrong three times. Not ever again

Nice buy with that kind of discount.
I am still looking for a way to buy Silver here in My place. I tried to search online, but I think I have limited options. Not sure also how much it will cost if we buy from abroad, I guess it will a lot more expensive with the shipping at stuff.

Yeah, you'll have to do some research to see what is the best option in your area. Shipping overseas will definitely be expensive.

Whatever you do, make sure you have the physical metals.

Definitely do the research to figure out what you need to do in your area.

Make sure you take into account of tax implications for buying/selling as well.

The discount is on the premium, not the spot price.

Wao its looks so beautiful and amazing. I myself have invested a lot of money in silver some time ago and will wait for a few years now because as the price of gold has gone up so much it will also have to go up.

It probably will, but I'm not getting metals for the fiat value.

That is pretty cool! I feel bad that I missed the sale now. I likely wouldn't have had the money to buy anything anyway. I'd like something bigger than a 1oz piece one day. I should just start DCA'ing into it like you are.

The biggest pieces I have are 10 ounces.

Nice! I missed that you bought some gold too. Very cool. I need to pick some of that up sometime. Maybe after the next bull run!

Some nice pieces, glad you are investing in "physical" precious metals... ETFs and paper contracts defeat the purpose.

You scored a beautiful deal, DCA staking for the win, that prayer bar is very unique

Some do, some don't as far as authentication certificates. Part depends on the source, the item(s), and whoever cares. Some certificates are better than others.

Thank you for holding virtualgrowth token. You have been included in today's post.

Protestant Chinese, a fascinating connection with your past, I can only read a few Chinese characters and the numbers from my grandma's Mah Jong game.

From my limited experience, that authentication certificate would be important. It’s almost like having the receipt for the baseball card you’ve purchased. Or maybe a better example would be when looking for a used car. A used vehicle would be more appealing if there was only one owner and that certificate nearly says the same thing. Imagine how you would feel if you got that piece from someone and it did not have the certificate.
I guess, no matter what, a person would want to verify the purity of the piece regardless of an authenticity certificate, but I’m very inexperienced at collecting such items and I would want to see the certificate.
