First homegrown strawberries

(Edited)

Yesterday and today @niko.lemark picked the first three ripe strawberries from our backyard garden. They were delicious.

Here is today's pair.

And here's the one from yesterday.

Several weeks ago I bought it over the internet 16 plants. Four different sorts. Two early sorts and two regulars. Some plants were quite big already hence the ripe fruits.

There are many more green fruits on their way to redness.

Yes, you see it right. I put each plant in a separate pot :)

The pots are under the roof by the east-facing wall. This way they are protected from the rain and enjoy the mild morning sun. And later in the day, the wall radiates back the accumulated warmth. The drawback is that I need to water the plants regularly., every second day.

I'll do the same trick with tomato plants in a week or two.

How is your gardening going on this season?

Better and better

These ones look perfect. I used to have some planted in my grandma's garden, but after she died no one done any maintenance to the garden.

That's too bad. It doesn't take much time for several plants. Of course, taking care of the whole garden is another story.

Strawberries? Not even a flower had shown up. But to be fair, I didn´t plant them newly but I am just following a surprise survivor from last year (normally they are killed in winter).

I hope you'll be surprised :)))

I kicked out the old plants and bought new ones. The old ones were planted three years ago. I guess that's the upper limit for these not-forest strawberries.

Yeah, since they will be under the roof, it's best you water them regularly... One of the things I find as the hard work in growing a plant 😆

But a gardener will love to do that anytime, isn't it?

Those strawberries are looking delicious 😋 I guess I'll just wait for these new ones to become ripe after your watering... I need some 😃

I don't have a garden yet but others around aren't having a bad time with theirs 😊

Yes, regular watering with water that's been prepared several days ago.

A bad time? Why?

Yeah, I mean they aren't having a bad time like when the sun is too hot or when it rains too much

Aha, OK, thanks for the explanation. Have a great time and good luck with the garden when you start one :)

WOW! - They look great!
Mine wasn't that big, but I think I had the seed of a different variety of strawberries which were smaller but very sweet. 😀

Thanks. I have written down the names of the sorts. I'll try to find them and posts them. I intentionally ordered four different sorts to see the outcome.
