MetaMask - In-Browser Wallet You Should Know About

avatar

A lot of people don't know about the browser based wallets. And there is a strong reason about it. A lot of times people lose their desktop access and also the browser goes along with it. And so they try to avoid the browser based wallets.

But this is among the rare cases where people lose their owned machines. Not all the people get into that sort of the problem. So if you own the laptop, tablet or the desktop machine then you should know about the wallet.

What is MetaMask?

Metamask is a browser-based extension that allows you to store the ETH based tokens based on ERC-20 based tokens. And not just store but you get to store your swaps too. And also some of the farms and the yield programs require you to connect this wallet for getting your daily or weekly or even term based coin stake.

You can get the general idea of what metamask is through the below video.

What's the better way to use Metamask?

Download the portable Versions of chrome or edge or even Firefox. And you may have an option to make use of the metamask. The reason portable version is better is because you can take it anywhere from the USB and also update the browser within the USB itself. This way you are not locked into the device or machine where you don't have any access.

What about Mobile version of Metamask?

I personally prefer the trustwallet for the mobile. However considering the Metamask has much better support for the ETH based tokens. I have it installed on the android device too.

You can check out the android version here: https://metamask.app.link/bxwkE8oF99

Which is better for Airdrops? Desktop wallets or Metamask?

Considering the airdrops that happen like some sort of plague and you get in contact with many wrong telegram bots. You should be definitely keeping all the airdrop infection away from your main wallet. You can deal with the small ETH tokens and the airdrops through metamask. Atleast that is what I prefer, rest the choice is yours.

Is it worth it?

I think MetaMask is good enough for the ERC-20 tokens. You can make use of it for the swaps, storing airdrops and also keeping casual tokens before and after swap as a buffer wallet.

I don't personally want to make it my main wallet. It is kind of risky considering often I forget about seed words and also lose access to machine or machine gets damaged. So I tend to prefer the hardware and the desktop wallet where I can remember the seed words in some way. You can do the same with metamask too but often browser dependency makes me forget such wallets and it's seed words.

You will also find it's use in the farm and the DEFI apps that locks your stake for some specific time and auto pay back. In such case this wallet can be handy.

In short, Metamask is a good wallet for the ERC-20 tokens and you should definitely have atleast one handy if you are dealing with the ETH ecosystem.
