Apart from the economic hardship facing the West African country, insecurity is at the rise and this has endangered the lives of many citizens. Although, Burkina Faso isn't the only African country that is faced with insecurity.

At least 15 Burkina Faso soldiers and army auxiliaries were killed in an attack in the north of the country on Wednesday, three security sources said on Thursday.

The attack took place in the West African country's Centre-North region, a hotbed of jihadist activity linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State, and was carried out by unidentified armed assailants, the sources said.

The victims of the ugly incident were posted to guard water pipelines that supply water to various parts of the region. It should be noted that prior to the incident and the subsequent deploying of security personnel, the insurgents have been destroying water pipelines in order to disrupt water from reaching people, which eventually increase the hardship in region.

Insurgents there have mined roads, besieged towns, wrecked water facilities and undermined efforts to deliver food and supplies to trapped civilians.

Burkina Faso is one of those West African countries battling with violent insurgents and Islamist militant groups that started in Mali and have spread to the entire region.

Thousands have been killed and over two million displaced across the Sahel region south of the Sahara.

Frustrations over authorities' failure to restore security spurred two military takeovers in Burkina Faso and two in Mali since 2020.

This just show that the government of neighboring countries and the international community needs to step up to curb the increasing rate of insurgency in the region.

The people of Burkina Faso also have a great role to play in the fight against insurgency by giving intel to the military personnel in order to clap down on these Islamist militant group.

It's because of the bad seeds the government's in Africa have sown. All what we need now is good governance that is targeted towards infrastructural development, equity and equality in the society. I know it'll take time but if we'll pressed on through sensitization of the local populace we'll get there someday.
Thanks for stopping by.
