A lesson learned on ListNerds

avatar

It was not long ago when I shared about my first few days using ListNerds and today, I needed to write a very important lesson learned.

I re-watched the ListNerds tutorials (Guide to Voting) for a few times trying to find out what I may have missed. I know there was something wrong I did because my Mail was downvoted hugely. Didn't want to repeat the same mistake so had to find out what it was and do better next time.

Markus Spiske

The tutorial mentioned that getting downvoted must not be taken personally and not a reason to quit to which I agree. It is painful to get downvoted and it was my first time and a big one.

"It's really important to note that if you get your messages downvoted it's not like you're horrible at this and you should give up. It’s going back to work on some of the things that you think you can improve upon like the subject line or the format, the call-to-actions, the general feel and the readability of the messages. And eventually, you will get some great results from it."

Quoted from ListNerds Voting Tutorial Page.

There was no specific "rules" inside the ListNerds platform of what NOT to do so I came to Hive and search articles. After reading several posts, I think I found the main reason why my Mail got downvoted.

It's a big NO to share other people's post without asking and telling them first that you are going to share it in ListNerds. I was guilty of that even if my intention was good. I didn't share just any post (I shared a great one), my mistake was not letting the post author know that I was sharing it elsewhere.

Realizing that,I had to correct it by going to the article, commenting on it informing the author that I have shared the post on ListNerds to which she replied approvingly.

That was a Nerd's mortal sin today. I shall learn more and I appreciate any further advice, suggestions or recommendations on how to do better.

Thank you and to your bliss today!

They literally have attempted my murder and are trying to kill me with V2K and RNM. Five years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism ..... https://ecency.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem if you run into one of them you may want to immediately shoot them in the face. 187, annihilate, asphyxiate, assassinate, behead, bleed, bludgeon, boil, bomb, bone, burn, bury, butcher, cap, casket, choke, chop, club, crucify, crush, curb, decapitate, decimate, deflesh, demolish, destroy, devein, disembowel, dismember, drown, electrocute, eliminate, end, euthanize, eviscerate, execute, explode, exterminate, extinguish, finish, fry, grind, guillotine, gut, hack, hang, hit, ice, implode, incinerate, kill, liquidate, lynch, massacre, maul, microwave, mutilate, neutralize, obliterate, off, pop, poison, punnish, quarter, ruin, shank, shock, shoot, shred, skin, slay, slaughter, smoke, smother, snipe, snuff, squish, stab, strangle, stone, suffocate, suicide, SWAT, swing, terminate, torture, terrorize, whack, waste, wreck. Well no harm there then, lesson learned. And all in all, everyone is getting downvoted from time to time. It does make you wonder but once you'll be getting those upvotes you know you are on the right track.

Yeah, a good one learned the hard way. Thank you for the encouragement. I noticed the small downvotes on my other Mails but the one received today was big enough to have my mail go unverified.

It's still kinda strange... I don't think that much is it someone's own post or not, I just vote based on the content.

I do the same, but some people have their own criteria of voting.

So you recovered and all's well.

If your looking for more guidance on ListNerds there's one great author of several articles. Check I @thisismylife. she has many posts on the subject that are helpful. Also it would be a injustice to myself if I didn't mention that even I have a few good posts to look at.

I have to agree with you. A lot of people share someone else's post. I have never gone through all the comments looking for approval but I will check from now on.

but why?

The main reason why you'd want to mention it is to promote the ListNerds platform. So you're showing the author of the post that through ListNerds they can get more engagement by mentioning this to them. This creates a win/win scenario.

I agree, letting people know that they were highlighted is a great way to grow the community BUT why punish someone for not taking that step?

The person who suddenly has an uptick of comments on their post with many of them saying "I found you on listnerds" will surely know they were featured.

I agree! I don't believe that deserves a downvote. As with the Hive community, downvotes should be reserved for spam and plagiarism. With that being said, I've been downvoted by certain heavy voters sharing completely original fictional content 🤔🤦‍♂️

Well, it is still a young community and we can only see how it develops going forward. I believe it will continue being more towards the positive as opposed to the negative though, so ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!

That's a great attitude to have about it.

Sometimes "rules" get circulated on the blockchain that don't make sense. Like the time I was put on a blacklist for investing my money within the blockchain.

Its ok, I find that if you keep writing, and creating community, eventually the downvotes either stop mattering that much, or just kind of disapear.

Thanks for your response.

I noticed that too so I thought it was okay. Apparently, it wasn't and I understand the point of the author of the post where I derived my conclusion from.

That is an interesting rule.

What is the point of it? If I find a great article on say, Forbes, and I supposed to inform Forbes that I am sharing it?

I'd love to hear the thought process behind this.

It is not a rule of ListNerds per se but it's the only angle I see why my Mail was downvoted big. Here is the article where I got the idea and you may want to check it too. There are other points mentioned.

It would be helpful to see what the article was and how big the downvotes, this doesn't tell us too much...because it´s not a mortal sin...there must have been more if you ask me...but you did not

Im not sure there is any hard or fast rule that you cant share other people's posts. Perhaps the downvoted didn't like the email or content?!

Keep going on ListNerds and sharing the great content.

Yes, from my short research, I didn't find any hard rule but maybe yes, the downvoter/s didn't like the email :D

It's a big NO to share other people's post without asking and telling them first that you are going to share it in ListNerds.

There is no such rule as far as I know. What is wrong is to take an article and post it on Hive as your own. Same with the email. You can't copy someone else's email and call it your own.

But you can share anyone else's post without informing that person. As long as you make clear in the email that you're sharing someone else's post.

The benefit for that person is the exposure to a new audience, and, if the post is within the voting period, possible new votes. Maybe reblogs and most likely comments, which are important even for SEO.

The benefits for you are the LISTNERDS rewards IF the email is verified. That is not guaranteed.

Why do people on Listnerds let authors know when they share their posts? Well, they provide a free service to the author, but for which in most cases they pay the membership on Listnerds. In exchange, they build their branding by commenting on the author's post.

But it's not a requirement that you comment on the author's post and ask for permission. Then, it would be a requirement to ask permission to reblog other people's posts too.

I never thought about it too until I got that big downvote and maybe my Mail was bad too :D

I found it on someone's post and I just assumed it was my mistake.

Thanks for sharing this important information. I hope all the new listnerds are also aware of this. And do check out how other people send their mail to improve on their upvotes.
Cheers. Give you a small upvote here and there.

I dunno, I appreciate seeing other people promote other's posts on ListNerds.

No 'rule' per se, but the community and their stake is always boss lol

I feel the same way, it is good to share especially when they deserve more eyes but yes, people and their stakes have the say :D

Yup, just have to learn to see from their perspectives and adjust.

I think the dv's happen mostly because you're not the only one doing that but many are just filling up their emails like that without even mentioning its another author or leaving them a comment to let them know.

You tried to find out what the reason was, seemed to have discovered the reason and want to learn and improve. Nothing wrong with that, we all live and learn, don't we?
