Ethnicity is the Racism in Nigeria.

Nigeria is a beautiful country with over 200 native languages apart from the one taught to them by their colonial masters. Nigeria has a beautiful state within it and people of a different tribes. This difference should have brought the people of Nigeria together but the case is different.
The way many has suffered from racism in most of the European state is also the way Nigeria is suffering from discrimination between each ethnic group.

Recently, Nigeria conducted her presidential election with three major candidates from three popular political parties. The election conducted was said to be not free and fair and most of the citizens and journalists are coming out to say it was a rigged election.

Anyways, I'm not here to talk about the election but to talk about the truth in which the election made visible.

The three major candidates are from the three most popular tribes/clans/ethnic groups in the country which are the Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo.

APC candidate - Bola Tinubu
PDP candidate - Abubakar Atiku
Lp candidate - Peter Obi.

Tribal war among citizen

Before the election day, while all the candidates were still campaigning to get better votes, I asked a friend a question who was supporting the Yoruba candidate

Why do you want this man to win?

And his reply was

Because he is a Yoruba man.

The same thing happened with an Igbo friend.

I just don't like the man. He is a Yoruba man, he won't lead the country well.

And all sort

The way people have suffered from racism is probably because they are not from that country, maybe they speak a different language from theirs or they have another skin color is also the same way many Nigerian are suffering in their country because they are from another tribe.

This kind of tribalism is mostly done by the indigenous ones who grew up with parents that have suffered great losses from the civil wars that happened a long time ago. The elderly ones who still see no reason for a united Nigeria and the less literate ones.

Funny Fact: The reason why I always say "Less literate" and not "Illiterate" is because I believe everyone in a way has little knowledge about what's is going on but doesn't have the indebt understanding and that has been a backstabber in our politics.

If this continues it's going to have a big impact on the next governorship election which will take place 11th of march. One of the biggest disadvantages to this tribal sentimentalism is that the citizen won't even vote for the right candidate even when they know he is ready to serve. They prefer to choose the wrong person because they are from the same tribe/culture/clan/religion.

Since there is disunity in the country and most people are tribal sentimental, it has a high chance of affecting the result of the election.

I hope that after all election has been done, the people will accept the result and hope for better leadership.
There are many disadvantages when there is protest and fight among the citizens. Hoodlums will use the opportunity to rob and vandalize shops.

All the good citizens are hoping that the country will get better and good policies will be made.

Racism is unfortunately very obvious among Nigerians. We don't make life changing decisions based on competency but on tribalism and that is set. And I believe like you said, all they need is to actually acquire more knowledge and not be led by their noses! Politics is no child's play.

Yeah.. You said it right.. Politics is no child's play and we need absolute knowledge before we make any moves.. The villain might even be the hero

When I read your headline, my first thought was "Na wetin I dey talk since".
Guy you are so right in every ramification.
Tribalism, if we are not careful, might be the end of us.

It's so unfortunate that we don't see and treat each other as brother and sister. Hopefully this new era will change things.

I hope so.. Currently in Lagos this election has brought more distance between the Igbo and Yoruba... There are more than brings us together than separate.. What the government is going is "Divide and rule"
