Real World Blending With Digital

As we all know, Apple unveiled new products at its worldwide developer conference (WWDC 20223). One of the major breakthroughs that has happened in the AR/VR industry is Apple Vission Pro, an augmented/virtual reality headset that has been in the works since a long time ago.

Apple Vision Pro Overview

Here's a short summary in bullet points to get you up to speed:

• The device looks like a pair of ski goggles and is controlled with eyes, hands, and voice. No fkn controllers xD

• It features a separate battery pack.

• It's priced at $3,499 & will be released early next year. What a huge burn on the pocket.

• It will launch initially in the US market, with other countries to follow later in the year.

• Primarily functions as an AR device, but can switch between augmented & full virtual reality using a dial.

• The device doesn't require a controller, and users can browse app icons by looking at them, tap to select, flick to scroll, and give voice commands.

• The headset supports Bluetooth accessories and allows you to connect your Mac for use within the headset.

• Downward-facing cameras can capture your hands even when they're resting low on your body.

• The headset has a glass front and an aluminum frame, housing five sensors, 12 cameras, a display, and a computer cooled with a fan.

• The mask and strap of the headset are cloth-lined and modular, and the headband can be swapped for different sizes and styles.

• Zeiss has created custom optical inserts for users who wear glasses.

• The external battery can last up to two hours and can connect via a woven cable.

• The display is promised to be extremely sharp, capable of delivering 4K video.

• The Vision Pro uses an M2 chip and a new chip called the R11.

• The headset isn't designed to isolate users from their surroundings. It uses a system called EyeSight to display your eyes and a digital persona created by scanning your face.

• It uses passthrough video to let you see the real world in full color and can project 3D objects into real space, including pulling objects out of a message thread into the real world.

• The headset allows users to use spatial audio for activities like arranging FaceTime participants as "video tiles" around a room.

• It can also capture and replay 180-degree video with a 3D camera while inside the headset.

• Apple is also promoting TV and Arcade content on the headset, including premium content from Disney.

• The headset has been in development for years and has undergone several iterations & delays.

Conclusion

According to me, one of the most exciting aspects of this device is its potential in the (not so) rapidly evolving metaverse. Obviously, because I am a web3 enthusiast so I see it that way. As a digital universe that integrates physical and virtual realities, the metaverse is set to become the next frontier of the internet.

The Vision Pro's cutting-edge features, such as EyeSight and spatial audio, create an unprecedented level of immersion that could become a cornerstone of the metaverse experience. This is about more than just technology; it's about creating an entirely new way of interacting with the world around us.

In a way, Apple's Vision Pro is a bridge – a bridge between our physical reality and the digital metaverse, a bridge between our present and our future. As Apple continues to refine and develop this technology, we can only imagine the kind of transformation it will bring to our lives.

I know it is shit costly and only Apple fanbois or developers making AR/VR apps would invest in such hardware. But what do you guys think about this innovation? Comment below.

Yay or Nay?

The price point for this is way too high in my opinion. It should be around 1k $ to 1500$.

Its price is high as we all see because similar things can be found cheaper in the market but one thing we should remember as we all know that the more expensive the friend. Even if you go, people's like to buy apple products definitely buy it.

Its a great device which anyone would like to have but the question is - would you spend $3499 to buy this ?

It's a high cost but I'm probably going to be a yay. Sure, I'm already sucked into the Apple ecosystem but I've been a VR fan since the Vive launched in 2016. Gen 1 of the Vision Pro will probably look different than 3 or 4 iterations down the road but I have to say - what they showed yesterday was genuinely impressive.

Apart from the price, it's a big yay for me. This new device could play a foundational part in bringing the metaverse into reality. I like the specs in the hardware, it will get better with further iterations.

I don't think it's anything too new. In a way, I think the technology already existed but Apple refined it. The price is way too high for that experience and I still don't think the metaverse is here yet. So even if you were to get it, the things you can do would be limited.

I love it and will buy it if I could afford it. But I’m looking forward to the Chinese versions, they might not be high tek but they’ll serve too and come cheaper. Much like the Chinese phones we have today that are almost par with big brand names.

I agree with you that the Vision Pro has the potential to be a game-changer in the metaverse. The combination of EyeSight and spatial audio is truly immersive, and it could revolutionize the way we interact with digital content.

However, I do think that the Vision Pro is still too expensive for most people. I also think that the metaverse is still in its early stages, and it's not clear how it will be used by consumers.

Yay for the innovation, nay for the price tag.

I must be honest; I have my doubts about this one for two reasons:

  1. Metaverse is still considered a swear word...
  2. Hefty price tag...
However, you know it will be hailed a roaring success, regardless of what the real figures are in relation to other products. I'm keen to see how this one unfolds.
