Getting paid to play games. Who doesn't want that? My 7-year-old nephew is always playing them on his gaming console or iPad or on his mum's phone. What if my sister knew that his little man could earn money doing the very thing she hates the most. 😂 She would be in shock because she's a doctor. In India, most parents want their children to be Engineers, Doctors & Lawyers. According to them, these are the most respected professions in the world. Times are changing though! Gaming can be a full-time job now. Respected or not, it's upto anyone's perspective, but you can put food on the table or change your life playing games. Blockchain technology has opened up new doors in the industry. Traditionally, gamers rely on sponsorships, crowdfunding, and content creation to monetize their skills. With the introduction of Play 2 Earn games, now anyone can make real income without relying on third parties. There's also a chance to get sponsorships from different gaming DAOs also known as Blockchain Gaming Guilds.

In this blog, I will discuss how these guilds are revolutionizing the Blockchain gaming industry and what are some of the best ones out there. If you are someone who wants to have a shot at earning via gaming, this is going to be an important post for you. Investors who are interested in supporting the industry and taking benefit of the current boom, this is going to be an important post for you as well. Let's dig in!

What Are Blockchain Gaming Guilds?

Most Play 2 Earn games require you to invest a substantial amount of money before you get to earn a decent income. Not everyone can afford that. Gaming guilds are groups that connect players and investors. There are so many talented gamers out there who are looking to make a living out of their skill but they don't have the money to fund their initial set of NFTs required to play and progress within the game. There are investors who have the money but no skills to play the game. Guilds help both parties. In the blockchain world, they are mostly operated through DAOs. The community owns the treasury and decides to fund various initiatives to make more assets & increase profits. Investors can earn passive income with their share of investment. Win-win!

Traditional vs Blockchain Gaming Guilds

Traditional gaming guilds are centralized and available for a few highly skilled gamers. Not everyone gets a chance! Moreover, they are unsustainable due to constant changes in the gaming trends. People lose interest over time and they move to the new game. Blockchain gaming guilds operate across different popular games and fund the scholars to play and ultimately bring in profits. The blockchain gaming space is on fire right now hence there's so much scope of making some decent money. Funding & manage so many parties together is easier with Crypto/Blockchain and much more convenient than in the traditional world.

Most Popular Gaming Guilds in 2022

Here's the list of some of the most powerful gaming guilds depending upon their market cap and the number of community members across social platforms:

  1. Yield Guild Games (YGG): It is the pioneer of P2E gaming DAOs and currently the biggest guild out there with a market cap of around $250 Million. It was founded in 2020 by a renowned gamer and Axie Infinity player Gabby Dizon. Their discord server has over 100k members currently. It is backed by some of the most prominent VCs & investors like Andressen Horowitz, Delphi Digital, Blocktower Capital, and Animoca Brands. YGG started investing early in top Blockchain games & other NFT gaming assets. The guild also runs various scholarships programs and shares its resources with the new budding gamers in exchange for a share in the revenue they make.
  2. Merit Circle: This guild was launched in late 2021 and lend gaming assets to players. They have around 3750 active gamers currently playing over 700 games. Merit Circle DAO governs sub DAOs that are related to different games. It has vaults that employ different strategies to earn revenue. The total market cap is around $92 Million with more than 100K followers across various social media platforms. Soon they will also be launching $MC token staking to reward holders.
  3. Avocado DAO: With a market cap of $9.7 Millon Dollars, Avacado DAO is surprisingly famous among Blockchain gamers. They had raised approximately $18 million in Series A funding. With more than 10K scholars, they are quite active in games like Axie Infinity, Cyball, and Revv Racing. The founder of Avocado DAO has the vision to empower, educate & support the developing economies where the unbanked population is high in number.

Whether you are a gamer or an investor, joining one of these guilds would definitely help you to make a good amount of money while having exposure to different games at once. What do you guys think? Comment below!

Nice analysis as always. I am also a big fan of game guilds. I believe in their potential. I considered investing in YGG, but I give up due to its tokenomics.

My favorite blockchain gaming guild is @oneup-cartel on Hive. I am financing the cartel :)

Thanks mate. I did not invest in any of them but I am thinking to do it.

I am a huge fan of OneUp Cartel myself. Didn't realize we already have one at home. :') I am getting oneup token via content creation, is that enough or there's more to it?

Oneup and oneup-cartel are different coins of the same team.

Gonna hijack your comment section to add 1UP and Yunit to the list.

1UP because it is a Hive-based guild and Yunit because they give up to 90% of the rewards to their players (if you get to the final tier).

Dunno if Yunit can even count as a guild yet but DAO is in the work so I guess they qualify.

Can a comment section be hijacked?

Doesnt that go against the idea of what it is there for?

Oh the things in life to ponder.

You can do a lot of things in the comment section, hijacking included. I will let no comment section on Earth tell me what I can and can not do with it.

Thanks a ton, Jerry. I love Oneup Cartel and what they are doing. Need to dig more into it.

Yunit because they give up to 90% of the rewards to their players (if you get to the final tier).

Cool. Players should be first-class citizens since they are the ones doing the hardest work in these guilds.

Blockchain gaming is going to be really powerful in the future. We need to capitalize on it right here on Hive.

Splinterlands is a great first step but we need to add more. Guilds can be a way to enhance the experience for a lot of people.

Great write up.

That's true Task. It's going to be a huge industry (already is) in the upcoming years. Splinterlands is doing great, one of my best investments so far. Having huge hopes from @psyberx too. We need to have like hundreds of games built on Hive.

Thank you so much!

Yes we do. We have to keep pushing things further on every level. That is why engagement is so important. It is one area that all can keep adding to the ecosystem.

There are so many other things being worked on. I am so excited about HBD and what is taking place with them.

I think YGG is the most popular one among the gaming guilds. Other than YGG, I know Balthazar that focuses on Splinterlands, as well. Many people still could not understand the potential of Gaming Guilds yet. However, they are building a different economic model in crypto ^^

That's true mate and you are absolutely right. YGG is the most popular and the first major P2E DAO. They are operating very easily, thanks to blockchain and crypto. Smart Contracts and DAOs make it easier to track and manage such a complex system.

It's quite interesting to see all the options for gaming and I like letting other people play the game. I am wondering whether or not games will really have the barriers to entry in the future or not. It just seems like the market could be bigger if you opened it up to everyone but I guess the rewards pool is limited so they have to limit it.

These guilds mostly help players that are highly skilled or have the potential to upgrade themselves in a short period of time. As the number of games is growing, almost hundreds of them get released every month, we will see more opportunities coming up.
