Here I talk about dCity and why I think it's broken on a fundamental level, and what I think is the solution, plus I find Luke 1 time in BootScootinTraffic.

Hi there and welcome to my vlog, my name is Erik Gustafsson and I go by the handle @flaxz on Hive, CTPtalk and DTube.

dCity Is Broken On A Fundamental Level - Here Is How To Fix It

So yesterday the tax in dCity went up above 100%, this is the first time as far as I know when that has happened, however tax in dCity has been very high for quite a while now.

The effect of these high taxes, which is said to stop the price of SIM from falling, is ironically that people leave the game in droves and further driving the price down even more.

If this continues it's game over for dCity, and I do not want that to happen.

So what is really the core of why the price is falling, if we look beyond the taxes which kills earnings for small accounts?

In this screenshot we see that there are 2 reward pools, one with SIM tokens and one with Hive, and the Hive rewards actually pay out to accounts that are ranked top 400, not top 100, and based on population.

There is no diminished rewards in Hive if an account is running a city that gets a negative reward in SIM, the SIM rewards are just zeroed, but rewards in Hive is not affected.

This has the effect that of the top 8 accounts on the ranking for population all have a negative SIM income, but still get fully rewarded in Hive without any reduction.

These accounts has not built balanced cities, they have only grown their population and not much else, if any.

High tax does not affect them, since that is in SIM, but it does affect their competition in the game for those top spots, high taxes makes sure that they stay in those top spots.

For the small players this just means no incentive to play the game, and less demand for the SIM token, because newcomers are what makes the game growing for the long term, it's just a nessecity.

And right now it's even worse because many peoples trust in the game is broken, and that also needs to be addressed.

My Solution

What in my opinion needs to happen here is that rewards in Hive is reduced by the same value that a player with a negative SIM income has.

This will incentivize players to build balanced cities, and also to have balanced taxes.

By doing this players will see that the problems have been addressed, trust will return and demand for the SIM token will go up.

This is my opinion anyways, and I hope that @gerber and the dCity team will listen.

In the meantime I am voting for @trumpman for president in dCity.

And here is also my dCity currently.

Thanks a lot @jlufer, yeah things are not right in that city and a change is needed if people are going to stay, let's see how it develops.

I think it would be wise to implement a wealth tax on those 0 SIM income folks at the top.

A wealth tax is not what I propose here, just that they will have their Hive rewards reduced by the same value as their negative SIM income.

A tax would make it up to the President each time which could be abused by those at the top. I like your systemic approach as it could only be changed by @gerber and would benefit everyone who plays the game

Yeah negative income in SIM should reduce Hive rewards, where else do you get rewarded for running a negative income?

I don't know what the solution is, but SOMETHING has to be done. I think you have a valid point about the top accounts being rewarded for having a negative income. That is just unrealistic. Unfortunately, the president cannot fix this problem. As you said, if something doesn't change on the gamer designer level, I fear dCity is lost.

Yeah a change like this has to be done by the developers, and I hope they listen because it would be in their interest to make the game successful.

Thanks for sharing. Something definately needs to be done. Just got started with the game about the time the taxes started rising.. The last week or 2 i have barely opened the game. Hope it will not be too much of a loss getting rid of thoose cards..

Don't sell them just yet, let's give the developers some time to change things.

SIM Token is worthless, in-game and on Hive-engine. I hope your enthusiasm encourages more people to buy, that way I can attempt to recover some investment and time spent on this "once awesome" game.

Yes you are right it was great, but underlying problems was not fixed and they show now when prices go down and the negative SIM income cities moves to suck the Hive rewards out for themselves, and stop everyone else from reaching those top spots, and the high taxes don't hit them either.

Hey Erik, I'm also hanging tight to see how this issue is addressed. Wouldn't reducing HIVE rewards just cause big cities to quit the game and dump SIM tokens even more?

Hi there, so I was not suggesting to reduce overall Hive rewards, just that the cities having negative SIM income will have that retracted from their Hive rewards, if you look at the rankings you see that the top cities all run a negative SIM income without having to pay for it by reduced Hive rewards, that sets all the wrong kinds of incentives to have a healthy game.

Wouldn't a buy-back-and-burn with a portion of the HIVE earned from the marketplace help?
