Freeze Dryer Exhaust Fan Install, Harvests, Brushing Fence Line, Garden, Fire and Grilling - Saturday
I slept in yesterday morning and didn't get outside until after 8am and the sun was soon blasting me in the eyes to which I got myself out and going for the day.
The squash gave me a meager pound but that is fine for now, they have to have all the neighbors catch up and start producing for the numbers to pop.
With the exhaust fan housing built I decided how to attach it, using aluminum tape, the good thick stuff I have from the Air Force over 20 years ago.
I cut a piece of the flashing and used it to cover over the rest of the holes on the side. The fan is pretty secure on the side and it doesn't take up a lot of space.
The output fits nicely in the window and gets set on top of the shelf when not being used.
The peas had to be picked and I got another pound which got devoured quite quickly once in the house.
My next task was to scrounge up some more fence posts and hike them to the top of the hill. I did not pound them into place yet.
On my way down the new fence line path I came upon this bright mushroom.
I have two monster grinding stones and I use the finer to sharpen my machete on. I just pull the blade across it and it does a wonderful job of sharpening.
With the axe, shears, and the machete I then climbed the hillside again and cut back trees, bushes, and moved branches to clear the way for the fence.
I have to cut the tree up that Asplundh left lying in the way but will do that this week.
A little look at the main garden. The peas are 7 feet tall and still producing.
The tomato plants are blowing up nicely, the cabbage is getting some nice large leaves but no balling yet, and the celery is actually growing.
One of the peppers growing on the plant is nearly the size of the plant.
The 2 rows of beans are doing far better than the other rows but they others got choked with weeds while these 2 did not. The pair of kale rows are producing well and the squash aren't seeming to encroach on them too much.
The second seeding squash are all up and most of them are going to take another week at least to start producing.
The beans are getting filled in by the reseeds but they are taking their sweet time to get bigger.
I did find that I finally have sour gherkin plants popping up now and look forward to trellising them on the fence.
The turkeys are not enjoying the warmer weather. With the mass of feathers and darker colored they spend a lot of the day panting in the shade.
The boys had a fire going mid day so they could grill their hotdogs and it got kept up for the rest of the day.
I pushed the roll of fencing to the bottom of the hill and have it staged for the attempt to lug it up to the top of the hill. It will NOT be an easy task.
@stryeyz picked a arm load of kale from the garden to go with the summer squash for dinner.
I grilled our burgers than toasted the buns and we all ate inside.
Early night as I was really tired and still am this morning.
Today we head to the west side as we are seeing Puscifer play tonight. We will be seeing a friend and her son, hitting the science center, and likely the zoo and aquarium tomorrow. We will be home late afternoon likely.

I have that exact model of Gator machete! The brush here just doesn't suit that took well.
